Safety Notes
Please note the included General Safety Notes and the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damage or physical injury:
-
Please read this manual carefully and use the unit only according to this manual.
-
Dispose of used packaging material carefully or store it out of the reach of children. There is a danger of suffocation!
-
Persons with limited physical, sensorial or mental abilities are not allowed to use the unit, unless they are supervised for their safety by a qualified person or are briefed by the responsible person how to use the unit.
-
Keep the spray gun out of reach of children.
-
Observe all local and national process specification laws and requirements of the authorities and professional associations with regard to ventilation, fire fighting, operations and general practices in the workplace.
-
Always use the spray gun with the necessary care and caution and protect yourself and others form accidents by taking suitable precautions.
-
Never aim the spray gun at yourself, other persons or animals. Solvents and paint thinner can damage eyes and skin.
-
Check all connections for functionality and tightness.
-
Use the spray gun only according to this manual and use only original spare parts. Other not recommended spare parts can be a risk of danger.
-
Always wear personal safety equipment when using the spray gun. Toxic fumes and certain materials can be poisonous. Those can lead to rash or they can be harmful in different ways. Follow the recommendations shown on the signs or written on the data sheets. Always wear a dust mask. The safety class of the machines has to be in accordance with the processed materials.
Always wear safety gloves when processing varnish or when cleaning the unit. We suggest wearing ear and eye protection when operating the spray gun. -
Please keep in mind that the spray gun is noisy. It causes strong vibrations of 11.53 m/s2 which can lead to strain damages in some cases. Have sufficient breaks in regular intervals.
-
Keep your working area tidy. Only take as much paint and thinner to your working area as is required for completing the job. Do not keep paint and thinners in open containers; store them in a safe place which is not easily accessible to others.
-
During painting no ignition source (e.g. open flames, lid cigarettes, lamps not protected against explosion etc.) may be present because shooting paint will cause the formation of explosive gasses.
-
Solvents and coating materials can be easily inflammable or flammable if they are spilled or sprayed. Always follow the warnings and safety information of the paint or solvent manufacturer’s note.
-
Keep in mind that static charges can be caused by the flow of liquids and/or air through hoses, by spray painting and by cleaning of non-conductive parts with cloths. Make sure that the spray gun and all equipment used made in metal are permanently grounded to prevent ignition from static discharge.
-
When wiping the paint container with a cloth, do not use a dry cloth or dry paper. Static electricity can be generated by wiping, which can cause a spark when unloading to a grounded object. This can lead to the ignition of solvent vapours. Use only damp cloth or antistatic-specific tissues.
-
Immediately switch off the spray gun when the mains lead are interrupted or damaged, when the switch is defective or when smoke or stench has been caused by damaged isolation.
-
Only use an approved extension cable with a minimum cross section of 1.5 mm2. When using a cable reel, always unwind the reel completely.
-
Do not operate the unit if it does not work correctly or has been damaged. Do not try to repair it yourself. Contact your customer support.
Operation
Preparations
- Remove the spray gun and the accessories from the packing and check all parts for damage in transit.
- Dispose of packaging material or store them out of reach of children.
- Do not use textured wall paint as it can block the nozzle.
- Thin the paint to the correct viscosity before using up in the spray gun.
- Always ensure that the surfaces to be sprayed are free from dust, dirt and grease.
- Make sure you have masked the areas that should not be sprayed using a good quality masking tape.
- The paint or fluid to be sprayed should be thoroughly mixed and free from lumps or other particles.
- Many substances can be sprayed with the spray gun, but always check the manufacturer’s recommendations before purchasing your paint.
- Always remember to disconnect the power plug of the spray gun before filling the paint container with spray-able material.
Thinning
Most paints are supplied ready for brush application and will need to be
thinned before they are suitable to be sprayed.
Follow the manufacturer’s advice on thinning the paint when used with a spray
gun. The viscosity cup will help you to determine the correct viscosity of the
paint to be used. To determine the correct viscosity fill the cup to the brim
with paint. Measure the time (in seconds) it takes for the cup to empty back
in the can.
The table below shows the recommended time for the different types of material:
- Plastic & Latex paint: 24 – 28 seconds
- Water based paint: 20 – 25 seconds
- Primers: 24 – 28 seconds
- Varnishes: 20 – 25 seconds
- Oil based paint: 18 – 22 seconds
- Enamel paint: 18 – 22 seconds
- Aluminium paint: 22 – 25 seconds
- Car under sealing: 25 – 35 seconds
- Wood sealers: 28 – 35 seconds
- Wood preservatives: No thinning required
- Wood stains: No thinning required
If the paint takes longer than the recommended time to empty, then further thinning is required. Mix in a small quantity of the appropriate thinner and use the viscosity test until the correct thickness is achieved. Some spray able materials contain particles and lumps. Strain those materials before filling the paint container.
Operation
- Turn the paint container (5) counter clockwise to remove from the spray gun. The suction tube assembly can be rotated to match your planned operation.
- Fill the paint container with the thinned paint as described above. Carefully turn the paint container clockwise to mount back on the spray gun.
- Never operate the spray gun without any liquids, this will lead to a higher wearing.
- Connect the spray gun to the mains. Aim the spray gun at a piece of paper or scrap and operate the trigger switch (3) until paint is sprayed.
- Adjust the output control (2) until the required volume of paint is sprayed. Turn the output control counter clockwise (seen from the front) to reduce the flow. Turn the output control clockwise to increase the flow. Adjusting the output control will affect the spray pattern. A poor spray pattern will concentrate the paint in the centre of the spray and give a blotchy finish. A good spray pattern will give even distribution of paint throughout the pattern.
Setting the desired Spray Pattern
The spray pattern is adjusted by installing the nozzle to either a vertical,
horizontal or diagonal position. Set the nozzle to the desired position.
Spraying Techniques
- Keep the spray gun level and parallel to the surface all the time to obtain the best spraying result.
- Do not tip the spray gun to more than 45º.
- Keep a distance of 25 – 30 cm from the surface to be sprayed and spray evenly from side to side or up and down. Do not spray at an angle as this will lead to paint runs on the surface. Perform the spraying movement from the arm and not from the wrist.
- Use smooth and even strokes. When spraying large areas, use a criss-cross pattern as shown on the right.
- Never start or stop the spray gun while it is aimed at the surface to be sprayed.
- Evenly control the speed of the movement of the spray gun. A fast movement over the surface will give a thin coat. A slow speed movement will give a heavy coat. Apply one coat at a time. Make sure you observe the manufacturer’s recommended drying time before applying a further coat.
- Keep the output control at a low setting when spraying small areas. This will avoid using too much paint and prevent overspray.
- Avoid stopping and starting when spraying an object. This can lead to too much or not enough paint being applied.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Special cleanup instructions for use with flammable solvents (must have a flashpoint above 21º C):
- Always flush spray gun outside.
- Area must be free of flammable vapors.
- Cleaning area must be well-ventilated.
Do NOT submerge the compressor unit in liquids of any kind!
-
Unplug the spray gun, and trigger the spray gun so that the material inside the spray gun flows back into the container.
-
Unscrew the container. Empty any remaining material back into the material container.
-
Pour a small amount of the appropriate cleaning solution into the container. Clean container and properly dispose of cleaning solution.
-
Refill the container with NEW cleaning solution.
-
Attach the container to the gun and plug in the sprayer.
-
Spray the solution through the gun for two seconds in a safe area. Spray again for two seconds. Unplug the spray gun, and trigger the spray gun so that the material inside the spray gun flows back into the container.
-
Wipe the exterior of the container and gun until clean.
-
Unscrew the mounting ring (6) and remove the nozzle. Clean the container, suction tube, air cap and nozzle with a cleaning brush and the appropriate cleaning solution.
1. Attention: Never clean nozzle or air holes in the spray gun with sharp metal objects. Do not use solvents or lubricants containing silicone. -
Turn both knobs (11) on both sides of the Air Compressor Assembly to the “Unlock” position, pull and separate the spray gun from the air compressor assembly.
-
(a) Clean the rear of the spray gun with the appropriate cleaning solution.
(b) Turn the suction tube clockwise and pull the suction tube out of the gun. Open the bayonet lock and separate the two parts of the suction tube. Clean the suction tube with a suitable cleaning solution.
Attention : The seal ring between both parts of the suction tube must be put back into place after cleaning. Other-wise, some paint in the container will be sucked into the air duct and interfere with the function of the unit. -
Regularly inspect the air intake filter. Clean or replace it as needed.
