16 and 24 Tip Horn
Instruction Manual

Setup Instructions

Units are shipped with the individual tips attached to the rectangular assembly. The threaded stud at the top of the assembly screws into the threaded opening at the bottom of the Converter.

  1. Gently attach the Converter and probe assembly by hand. If the threads do not turn easily, stop and remove the Converter.
Check thread condition and try again. The parts should attach smoothly.

  2. Lay the assembly on the benchtop as shown below. Attach a wrench to the Converter and hold the rectangular assembly down by hand. Tighten as well as possible.

  3. Mount the assembly on the stand. Connect the converter cable to the power supply and turn on the ultrasonic processor.

  4. Using the jack stand, raise the sample vessel up to the tips. Submerge the tips into the middle of the liquid sample. Adjust height as needed to prevent foaming.

  5. This horn can be operated at any amplitude setting. If using a Q700, say NO to the microtip screen.

Note:

  • The probe assembly can operate at any amplitude setting.
  • Smaller volumes will require lower amplitude to prevent foaming or splashing.
  • Foaming, splashing, or improper tip depth will result in poor sample processing.
  • Each tip can process approximately 1-15mL volumes (depending on vessel shape and size).
  • Ensure the tips do not touch any part of the sample vessel.
  • This stand can be used inside the sound enclosure.
  • Replacement tips are #4660 and it is recommended that all be replaced at the same time.
