- Tighten both Guide Bar Nuts firmly
- Check for smooth rotation of the Saw Chain.
Note: A new saw chain will expand when first used. Check and readjust chain tension frequently to avoid premature wear, damage and kickback.
Preparing 2-stroke mix
This chainsaw is powered by a 2-stroke engine that requires a petrol/oil mixture as fuel. Always use dedicated 2-stroke oil. Measure the required amount of oil and pour the required amount of unleaded petrol into the Fuel Mixing Bottle (30), close and shake until thoroughly mixed. Never fill with fuel whilst the engine is running. Only refuel your chainsaw outdoors, in well-ventilated areas. Fuels containing more than 10% ethanol must not be used under any circumstances. Be careful not to spill any fuel. Spilled fuel may ignite and cause fires or explosions.
- Clean the area around the cap of the Fuel Tank
- Fill the Fuel Tank with fresh 2-stroke mix. Do not overfill
- Immediately refit the cap to the tank, and close Move at least 3m from the fuelling spot before attempting to start the engine.
Filling with chain oil
Be careful not to spill any oil. Be aware of slipping hazards!
- Clean the area around the cap of the Chain Oil Reservoir (14)
- Fill with special chain oil. Do not overfill
- Immediately refit the Chain Oil Reservoir cap
Testing the chain brake
The operator must ensure the correct operation of chain brake before every use.
- Make sure the engine has stopped
- Check manual chain brake operation by pushing the Front Hand Guard (3) forward. The Saw Chain must not turn
- Release the chain brake by pulling the Front Hand Guard towards to Front Handle (15), until a ‘click’ sound is heard.
- Hold the chainsaw horizontally, release your hand from the Front Handle and let the tip of the Guide Bar hit a tree stump or other piece of wood on the floor. The chain brake must engage, and the Saw Chain must not move.
Operation
Starting and stopping the engine
- Activate the chain brake by pushing the Front Hand Guard (3) forward
- Toggle the Engine Switch (7) upward into the ‘On’ position
- Press the pump (primer) (33) ten times
- Pull out the Choke Lever (8)
- Put the chainsaw on the floor on to a flat surface. Ensure that the Saw Chain (2) is not in contact with the ground or any object
- Place your left hand on the Front Handle (15) and push down
- Push your right toe cap into the Rear Handle (10), to hold the chainsaw in place
- Grab hold of the Recoil Starter (4) handle and slowly pull the Recoil Starter outward, until you feel resistance, then pull sharply a few times, until the engine fires briefly, but dies again immediately
- Push in the Choke Lever
- Pull the Recoil Starter again, until the engine starts
- Slowly remove your foot from the Rear Handle and pick the tool up on the Front Handle
- To switch off the engine, toggle the Engine Switch downward, into the ‘STOP’ position
Starting an engine flooded with fuel
- Remove the Air Cleaner Cover (5) and Air Cleaner
- Pull the Spark Plug Cap (23) off the Spark Plug
- Remove the Spark Plug (24)
- If the spark plug is fouled, encrusted or soaked with fuel, clean and adjust it. Replace if required
- Clean excess fuel from the combustion chamber by slowly pulling the Recoil Starter (4)
- Reinstall the Spark Plug
- Repeat the starting procedure
Checking chain lubrication
After starting the engine, the chainsaw operator needs to ensure that sufficient oil is delivered to lubricate the chain
- With the engine running, disengage the chain brake
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, and direct the Guide Bar towards the ground
- Disengage the Throttle Interlock (12) and press the Throttle Trigger (11)
- Run the chainsaw at medium speed. Oil should be scattered off the chain, onto the floor
Potentially dangerous reactive forces may occur any time the chain is rotating. These reactive forces may result in loss of control which may, in turn, cause serious or fatal injury.
Pull-in occurs when the Saw Chain (2) on the underneath of the Guide Bar (1) suddenly stops, for example when caught on a foreign object inside the wood. The saw is pulled forward, and may cause the operator to lose control of the chainsaw.
- Always wait until the chain has reached its full cutting speed, before starting cutting
- Ensure the Bumper Spikes (20) engage the wood properly
- Use wedges to open up existing partial cuts
Push-back occurs when the Saw Chain (2) on top the Guide Bar (1) suddenly stops, for example when pinched. The saw is viscously pushed backwards towards the operator, potentially causing him to lose control over the chainsaw.
- Avoid cutting situations that may cause material to pinch the top of the Saw Chain
- Do not cut more than one object at a time
- Do not twist the saw when pulling the bar out of a plunge or underbuck cut
Kickback may occur when the nose of the Guide Bar is pinched unexpectedly or is incorrectly used to begin a plunge cut.
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands
- Always stand to the side of the cutting path
- Do not use the tip of the Guide Bar for cutting
- Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height
- Always wait until the Saw Chain has reached its maximum cutting speed, before cutting
- Only ever cut one log at a time
- Be extremely careful when you have to re-enter a previously made cut
Transporting the chainsaw
- Always switch off the engine before putting a chainsaw down or transporting it. Wait until the engine has cooled completely.
- Always fit the Safety Cover (31) to the Guide Bar (1) before transporting the chainsaw. Carry the saw on its Front Handle (15), with the bar pointing backwards.
Cutting instructions
- Tree felling should only be undertaken by people with sufficient expertise and training.
- Always maintain secure footing. Never work from a ladder or use the saw above shoulder height.
- Never work from inside a tree, unless you have been specifically, professionally trained.
- Never put the chainsaw down and leave it with the engine running.
- Hold the Front Handle (15) with your left hand, and the Rear Handle (10) with your right hand (this position should also be adopted by left-handed operators).
Cleaning and maintenance
Always switch the chainsaw off and wait until all components have completely cooled, before carrying out any maintenance. This chainsaw must only be serviced by people with the necessary competence and skill level. Attempting maintenance or repairs not covered by this manual will void the warranty.
- Keep your tool clean at all times. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth.
- Use a mild detergent and a damp cloth to clean parts contaminated with oil or fuel. Rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly.
- Clean the chain, bar and sprocket after every use.
- Lubricate moving parts after cleaning.
- The Saw Chain (2) must be sharpened regularly.
- Make sure you inspect and clean the air cleaner, fuel, and oil filter on a regular basis.
Adjusting chain oil delivery
- Chain oil delivery can be adjusted by inserting the supplied slotted screwdriver (28) into the chain oil adjustment screw at the bottom of the tool
- Increase or decrease chain oil delivery as required by working conditions.
Adjusting chain tension
Always wear cut-proof gloves when touching the saw chain, to avoid injury.
- Loosen the Guide Bar Nuts (22)
- Adjust the Chain Tensioner Screw (21):
- turn clockwise to increase chain tension
- turn anticlockwise to decrease chain tension
- Tighten the Guide Bar Nuts securely
- Check chain tension
Maintaining the spark plug
Never test the ignition system with an unseated spark plug or the ignition wire removed from the spark plug (24). Uncontained sparking may ignite fuel and cause a fire.
- Remove the Air Cleaner
- Pull the Spark Plug Cap (23)
- Clean any dirt from the Spark Plug Cap or the top of the Spark Plug
- Loosen and remove the Spark Plug
- Visually inspect the Spark Plug and electrodes. Discard if you detect any damage
- If any deposits are visible around the electrode area, brush off with a brass wire spark plug brush (not included)
- Reinstall the Spark Plug and tightened
- Push fit the Spark Plug Cap, refit the Air Cleaner and Air Cleaner Cover.
Storage
Store carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children. Fit the Safety Cover (31) over the Guide Bar (1) and Saw Chain (2) for storage. Whenever the chainsaw is out of use for an extended period of time, proceed as follows
- Give the unit an overall cleaning and check
- Drain the fuel system
- Remove the Spark Plug (24), fill about a spoonful of 2-stroke oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole, and pull the Recoil Starter (4) gently two to three times to distribute the oil evenly. Replace the Spark Plug
- Slowly pull the Recoil Starter just until resistance is felt. At this point both the intake and exhaust valves are closed. Storing the engine in this position will help prevent internal corrosion
- Protect all metal parts from corrosion by coatingthem with oil or a machinery preservative
Storing fuel
Store 2-stroke mix only in containers specifically designed for fuel storage. Store fuel in a dark place with a constant, low temperature.
