General power tool Safety Warnings
WARNING

The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

power tool plugs must match the outlet. never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. -
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

if operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFci) protected supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety
-
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

use personal protective equipment. always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. -
if devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency. Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI-approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH-approved for the specific hazards in the work area.

Avoid unintentional starting.
Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool. -
Do not leave the tool unattended when it is plugged into an electrical outlet.
Turn off the tool, and unplug it from its electrical outlet before leaving. -

People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure. In addition, people with pacemakers should:

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) should also be implemented – it prevents sustained electrical shock. -

Power tool use and care
- Do not force the power tool. use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
- Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools and accessories. check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. if damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
- Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Service
- Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
- Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information.

Bench grinder safety warnings
- Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use, inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks . after inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
- The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.
- Never grind on the sides of a grinding wheel. Grinding on the side can cause the wheel to break and fly apart.

Vibration Safety
This tool vibrates during use.
Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders. To reduce the risk of vibration-related injury:-
Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud’s Disease should not use this tool.
If you feel any symptoms related to vibration (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers), seek medical advice as soon as possible. -
Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood supply to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.

Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.

Use tools with the lowest vibration when there is a choice.
-
Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
-
Grip tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it). Let the tool do the work.
-
To reduce vibration, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If any abnormal vibration occurs, stop use immediately.

Grounding
WARNING
TO PREVENTELECTRIC SHOCK AND DEATH FROM INCORRECT GROUNDING WIRE CONNECTION:
check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the
outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with
the tool. never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the tool
if the power cord or plug is damaged. if damaged, have it repaired by a
service facility before use. if the plug will not fit the outlet, have a
proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Grounded tools: tools with three prong plugs
-
Tools marked with “Grounding Required” have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user, reducing the risk of electric shock.(See 3-prong plug and Outlet.)

The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the tool’s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically “live” terminal.
(See 3-prong plug and Outlet.) -
The tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the preceding illustration.(See 3-prong plug and Outlet.)
Double insulated tools: tools with two prong plugs
- Tools marked “Double Insulated” do not require grounding. They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code.
- Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the preceding illustration.(See Outlets for 2-prong plug.)
Extension cords
- Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord.
- As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See table a.)
- The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. (See table a.)
- When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See table a.)
- If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. (See table a.)
- If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix “W-A” (“W” in Canada) to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use.
- Make sure the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it.
- Protect the extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas.

Setup – Before use
Read the Entire important Safety information section at the beginning of this manual including all text under subheadings therein before set up or use of this product.
Note: For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages, refer to Parts List and Diagram on page 12.
Mounting
- Ensure the buffer is always stable and secure.
- Mount the buffer to a stable surface before use according to the following instructions.
- Before operation, use 2 bolts (not supplied) to mount the Buffer securely to a stable work surface or stand.
Functions
Transportation
When lifting the Buffer, securely grip the Base with two hands and lift. Do not use any other part of Buffer to lift.

Setting and testing
WARNING:

Make sure that the Switch is in the off-position and unplug the tool from its
electrical outlet before performing any procedure in this section. to prevent
Serious injurie From accessory Failure:
DO knot use Grinding WHEELS Or Other unintended accessories On this Buffer.

Use only wheels with a diameter according to the diameter marking on the tool.
-
Slide the Buffing Wheel onto the Motor Shaft up against the inner Wheel Flange.
-
Slide another Wheel Flange onto the
Motor Shaft with its cupped surface sitting flat against the Buffing Wheel.
note: “Right” and “Left” are as seen from in front of the Buffer, facing the switch. -
If attaching to the right side, thread on the M16 Nut (16) clockwise and tighten securely.
-
If attaching to the left side, thread on the reverse thread M16 Nut (1) counterclockwise and tighten securely.
-
Apply the desired polishing compound (hard or soft, neither included) onto the
Buffing Wheel(s) that will be used. -
Practice on a sample workpiece before buffing the actual workpiece.
Good buffing results require experience.
Workpiece and Work area Set up
-
Designate a work area that is clean and well lit.
The work area must not allow access by children or pets to prevent distraction and injury. -
Route the power cord along a safe route to reach the work area without creating a tripping hazard or exposing the power cord to possible damage. The power cord must reach the work area with enough extra length to allow free movement while working.
-
There must not be objects, such as utility lines, nearby that will present a hazard while working.
General instructions for use
-
Make sure that the Switch is in the off-position, then plug in the tool.
-
Turn on the tool.
-
Using two hands, firmly hold the workpiece and gently move it into contact with the Buffing Wheel. To avoid kickback and other hazards, only buff on the lower quarter of the wheel. Note the directional arrows on the front of the Buffer.
Warning! Only apply the workpiece to the area of the Buffing Wheel that is rotating away from the workpiece. Objects can be thrown forcefully away from a Buffing Wheel causing serious injury. note the directional arrows on the front of the Buffer, and work only on the lower quarter of the Buffing Wheel. -
Move the workpiece with the direction of the wheel, using a medium to hard pressure.
Note: The correct pressure must be applied to the workpiece to provide the best finish. Inadequate pressure will result in no significant change in the workpiece. Excessive pressure may slow down the action of the Buffing Wheel as well as cause uneven marks on the workpiece. -
Every few minutes, check the condition and wear of the Buffing Wheels. Replace a Buffing Wheel when it is worn or damaged.
When buffing is finished, remove the workpiece from the Buffing Wheel before turning Buffer OFF.
caution! The tool will restart automatically if stalled due to excessive force applied to wheels. Stand clear of tool if a stall occurs. -
To prevent accidents, turn off the tool and unplug it after use. Clean, then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach.
Maintenance and Servicing instructions
Procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician.

Do not use damaged equipment. if abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the
problem corrected before further use.
Cleaning, Maintenance, and Lubrication
- Before Each use, inspect the general condition of the tool. Check for:
- loose hardware,
- misalignment or binding of moving parts,
- damaged cord/electrical wiring,
- cracked or broken parts, and
- any other condition that may affect its safe operation.
- After use, wipe external surfaces of the tool with clean cloth. To clean the Buffing Wheels, hand wash and air dry using only mild detergents. Do not immerse any part of the tool in liquid.
- If a Buffing Wheel has become too hard, use a stiff wire brush (not included) to fluff it up.
- Periodically, wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and NIOSH-approved breathing protection and blow dust out of the motor vents using dry compressed air.
- Caution! if the plug or the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced only by a qualified service technician.
Troubleshooting

Turn off tool and allow to cool. Press reset button on tool.

- Extension cord too long or cord diameter too small.

- Eliminate use of extension cord. If an extension cord is needed, use one with the proper diameter for its length and load. See Extension Cords in Grounding section on page 5.

Follow all safety precautions whenever diagnosing or servicing the tool. Disconnect power supply before service.
