Step 1. (Cutting Flexible LED Strips – Dry / Wet Location IP65 / RGBW)
Determine the desired LED strip length to be used during installation. Both
300LM/ft and RGBW are field cuttable every 2inwith a standard pair of shears.
200LM/ft LED strips are field cuttable every 4in. When cutting strips always
cut down the center of the copper solder pads (Figure 1).
Step 2A. (Connecting Power Feeds – Dry Location – Including RGBW)
JFX™ dry location LED strips are provided with 1ft long wire leads. The strips
can also accept 16-20AWG wire when using terminal block connector JFX CNT for
LED strips to wire connections. An LED strip to strip connector is also
provided when ordering JFX CNT (Figure 2). JFX CNT terminal block connectors
are not compatible with RGBW LED strips. JFX CNT RGBW connectors must be
used.
JFX CNT (LED Strip Terminal Block Connectors) – Figure 2
- Loosen terminal block screws. Insert 16-20AWG wire into the correct side of the terminal block making sure polarity matches LED strip connection points.
- Tighten the terminal block screws using PH0 screwdriver to secure wires / tape. Tighten by hand, do not use drill.
- Take the desired length LED strip and insert into the other end of the terminal block making sure proper polarity is maintained. Then tighten the terminal block screws till the LED strip is securely in place.
JFX CNT RGBW (RGBW LED Strip Connectors) – Figure 3
- Open connector clip.
- Take the desired length LED strip and slide it inside the clip underneath the contact prongs making surewire color matches color indicated next to the solder pad.
- Close connector clip to secure LED strip.
LED Strip Installation
- Make sure mounting surface is clean and dry prior to applying LED strip adhesive back to surface.
- Utilizing the attached adhesive, remove adhesive backing by working from one end to the next. Start by peeling off the adhesive backing from one end of the LED strip and placing the strip in the desired location. Firmly press the strips adhesive side against the mounting surface trying not to press on the LEDs when working down the strip. Alternatively, these strips can be mounted to the JFX SLCH Series aluminum channel if alternative mounting means are desired or if additional light diffusion is needed when utilizing the channel diffuser lens.
- Once the LED strips are installed in the desired location refer to wiring diagram for LED Driver installation (Figure 4).
Note: Minimum ambient temperature for proper strip adhesion is 50°F (10°C). Suitable surfaces for adhesive are limited to: wood, metal, glass, papers, paints, and many plastics.
JFX™ Series LED Tapelight
Step 2B. (Connecting Power Feeds – Wet Location IP65 / RGBW IP65)
-
Wet location LED strips are provided with 3ft long wire leads. If longer wire leads are needed an approved IP65 splice box may be used to make the extended connection to the LED strip (Figure 5).
-
If additional wire leads are needed after cutting LED strip an appropriate splice cable must be soldered to the LED strip and sealed with the provided end caps to maintain IP65 wet location rating (Figure 6). JFX CNT terminal block connectors and JFX CNT RGBW connectors are not compatible with wet location LED strips.
-
Each cut section must be sealed utilizing the provided end caps along with non-acidic neutral silicone sealant/adhesive (Figure 6). Sealant contact with LED chips is prohibited. Damage or premature failure of LEDs may occur from acidic based adhesives or when adhesive contacts the LED chips.
See Spec Sheet for silicone sealant/adhesive compatibility details. -
Make sure mounting surface is clean and dry prior to applying LED strip adhesive back to surface.
-
Utilizing the attached adhesive, remove adhesive backing by working from one end to the next. Start by peeling off the adhesive backing from one end of the LED strip and placing the strip in the desired location. Firmly press the strips adhesive side against the mounting surface trying not to press on the LEDs when working down the strip.
-
Screw down mounting clips are also included with wet location strips as an extra means of securement in addition to the attached adhesive backing (Figure 7). Clips can be used with or without adhesive backing. Use suitable #3 screws or similar based on mounting surface application. Do not cover LEDs with mounting clips.
-
Alternatively, these strips can be mounted to the JFX SLCH Series aluminum channel utilizing attached adhesive if alternative mounting means are desired or if additional light diffusion is needed when utilizing the channel diffuser lens.
-
Once the LED strips are sealed & installed in the desired location refer to wiring diagram for LED Driver installation (Figure 4).
FIXTURE DIMMING AND WIRING
120VAC (120) DRIVER
Dimmable with the use of most incandescent or electronic low voltage dimmers.
See Spec sheet for a list of compatible dimmer models.
Note: Electronic low voltage dimmers require a neutral wire connection at
the dimmer. RGBW drivers are non-dimmable and require the use of the JFX RGBW
DMX (DMX Decoder) or JFX IRM (RF Control System) for dimming and color control
purposes.
Note: See Spec sheet for voltage drop chart & recommended wire gauges from LED driver to LED strip. For RGBW strips refer to JFX RGBW DMX (DMX Decoder) or JFX IRM (RF Control System) instruction sheets for installation and wiring guides.
JFX™ Series LED Tapelight – SLCH(Aluminum Channel)
Step 1. (Cutting Flexible LED Strips)
Refer to LED strip instructions for cutting and connector installation. Using
JFX CNT terminal block connectors will slightly extend total length of LED
strip when accounting for channel/lens length.
Step 2. (Cutting Aluminum Channel)
The aluminum channel can be cut to size utilizing an appropriate metal cutting
tool. After cutting, finish the cut edge with a metal file to remove any burrs
or sharp edges. If utilizing the JFX CNT terminal block connector add 1in to
the channel cut length to account for connector’s additional length.
Step 3. (Cutting Diffusing Lens Cover)
Care should be taken when cutting the diffuser lens so not to scratch the lens
surface. The lens can be cut with either a heavy-duty pair of shears or a fine
tooth saw specifically for plastic. Lens length should match aluminum channel
length.
Step 4. (Adhering LED Strip To Channel)
Make sure the aluminum channel is clean, dry, and free of all foreign
materials. Working from one end to the next. Start by peeling off the adhesive
backing from one end of the LED strip and placing the strip in the channel.
Firmly press the strips adhesive side against the channel trying not to press
on the LEDs when working down the strip.
Note: Minimum ambient temperature for proper strip adhesion is 50°F
(10°C). Suitable surfaces for adhesive are limited to: wood, metal, glass,
papers, paints, and many plastics.
Step 5. (Testing LED Strips)
Once the LED strip is securely installed in the channel it is recommended to
test the strip utilizing an approved LED driver to ensure the system is
working properly prior to final assembly and installation. Refer to LED strip
instructions for power supply requirements.
Step 5. (Testing LED Strips)
Once the LED strip is securely installed in the channel it is recommended to
test the strip utilizing an approved LED driver to ensure the system is
working properly prior to final assembly and installation. Refer to LED strip
instructions for power supply requirements.
Step 7. (Mounting Aluminum Channel)
The aluminum channel can either be mounted utilizing suitable adhesive
mounting tape or using the provided channel mounting clips & #4-1/2in long
screws. When utilizing adhesive tape make sure it is compatible with the
desired mounting surface. If using the channel mounting clips, then
appropriate screws should be used to securely hold the clips to the base
material. The clips will snap into the side grooves of the channel once
securely installed in the desired location.
