EV Series LED Luminaires
Installation & Maintenance Information

APPLICATION

EV LED Luminaires are suitable for use in the following hazardous (classified) areas as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC®), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC):

  • Class I, Division 1, Groups C, D
  • Class I, Zone 1, IIB
  • Class II, Groups E, F, G; Simultaneous Presence
  • Class III

Refer to the luminaire nameplate for specific classification information, maximum ambient temperature suitability, and corresponding operating temperature (T-Code).
EV LED Type 4X/IP66 construction is designed for use indoors and outdoors in marine and wet locations, where moisture, dirt, corrosion, vibration and rough usage may be present.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of fire, explosion or electric shock, this product should be installed, inspected and maintained by a qualified electrician only, in accordance with all applicable electrical codes.
WARNING
To avoid electric shock:
Be certain electrical power is OFF before and during installation and maintenance.
Luminaire must be supplied by a wiring system with an equipment grounding conductor. Suitable for specific hazardous locations involved per the National Electric Code (NEC).
WARNING
To avoid burning hands:
Make sure globe and lamp are cool when performing maintenance.
WARNING
To avoid explosion:
Before opening, electrical power to the luminaire must be turned off.
Keep tightly closed when in operation.
Make sure that the supply voltage is the same as the luminaire voltage.
Do not install where the marked operating temperatures exceed the ignition temperature of the hazardous atmosphere.
Do not operate in ambient temperatures above those indicated on the luminaire nameplate.
Install luminaire base up (within 25 degrees of vertical position).
Use proper supply wiring as specified on the luminaire nameplate.
All gasket seals must be clean.
Prevent globe shattering by avoiding scratching or chipping the tempered explosionproof glass.

INSTALLATION

Mounting & Wiring
WARNING
To maintain explosionproof integrity, make sure all threads are fully engaged.
Bulkhead and Stanchion

  1. Install mounting module – bulkhead or stanchion – in its support position and attach to conduit system. For stanchion mounting modules, secure to conduit with set screw provided.

  2. Unscrew and remove access cover from mounting module.

  3. Pull supply wiring into mounting module and out through the access cover.

  4. Apply a liberal amount of HTL lubricant to the threads of the fixture.
Thread the luminaire into the mounting module until the mounting module seats firmly against the O-ring seal and secure with body locking set screw.

  5. Pull luminaire wires out through the mounting module access cover.

  6. Connect supply wires to luminaire wires using methods that comply with all applicable codes. Tighten all electrical connections.

  7. Push all wires back into mounting module.

  8. Apply a liberal amount of HTL lubricant to the threads of the cover.
Re-thread access cover onto the mounting module until the cover seats firmly against the O-ring seal.

  9. Turn power on.

Pendant, Ceiling and Wall Bracket (see Figure 2)

  1. Install mounting module – pendant, ceiling or wall bracket – in its support position and attach to conduit system. For pendant mounting modules, secure to conduit with set screw provided.

  2. Pull supply wiring into mounting module and cover with minimum 8” wire length.

  3. Connect supply wires to luminaire wires using methods that comply with all applicable codes. Tighten all electrical connections.

  4. Apply a liberal amount of HTL lubricant to the threads of the fixture. Place the luminaire into the mounting module and rotate counter-clockwise to seat the threads (at least one (1) full turn, no more than two (2)). Then in clockwise motion, thread the luminaire into the mounting module until the mounting module seats firmly against the O-ring seal and secure with body locking screw.
    CAUTION
With supply wires connected, do not excessively rotate luminaire without thread engagement. This may lead to wire damage.

  5. Turn power on.
    CAUTION
Do not pull/carry the luminaire by the wires, this may result in damaging the wire & the wire seal.

MAINTENANCE

  • Perform visual, electrical and mechanical inspections on a regular basis. The environment and frequency of use should determine this. However, it is recommended that checks be made at least once a year. We recommend an Electrical Preventive Maintenance Program as described in the National Fire Protection Association Bulletin NFPA No. 70B: Recommended Practice For Electrical Equipment Maintenance ( www.nfpa.org ).
  • The globe (and reflector when used) should be cleaned periodically to ensure continued lighting performance. To clean, wipe the reflector, then the globe with a clean, damp cloth. If this is not sufficient, use a mild soap or a liquid cleaner such as Collinite NCF or Duco #7. Do not use an abrasive, strong alkaline or acid cleaner. Damage may result.
  • Visually check for undue heating evidenced by discoloration of wires or other components, damaged parts or leakage evidenced by water or corrosion in the interior. Replace all worn, damaged or malfunctioning components and clean gasket seals before putting the luminaire back into service.
  • Electrically check to make sure that all connections are clean and tight.
  • Mechanically check that all parts are properly assembled.
  • Do not touch LEDs.

CAUTION
Do not pull/carry the luminaire by the wires, this may result in damaging the wire & the wire seal.
