Soldering Iron
Replacement soldering iron tips:
-
Tip temperature
High soldering temperature will degrade the tip. Keep the temperature at the lowest as possible during work. The tip temperature can recover quickly, which ensures efficient and effective soldering even at low temperature. It also protects the soldered items from damage by high temperature. -
Cleaning
Clean the tip regularly with a cleaning sponge; otherwise, oxides and carbides from solder and flux can form impurities on the tip. These impurities can result in defective joints or reduce the tip’s heat conductivity. When you use the soldering iron frequently, be sure to loosen the tip and remove all oxides at least once a week. It can help to maintain the tip’s performance. -
When not in use
Never leave the soldering iron at a high temperature for too long, as the tip’s solder plating will be covered with oxide, which can greatly reduce the tip’s heat conductivity. -
After use
Wipe the tip clean and tin it with fresh solder, which can prevent the tip from being oxidized.

How to determine the fault of heater or cord.
Disconnect the plug and measure the resistance value between the connecting
plug pins as follows. If the values of ‘a’ and ‘b’ are far away from the
normal values, replace the heater (sensor) and/or cord assembly (refer to
procedures 1 and 2). If the value of ‘c’ is more than the normal value, remove
the oxidization by lightly rubbing it with sandpaper or steel wool.
Faulty heater
Disassemble the unit
- Turn the nut(1) counterclockwise and remove the tip enclosure(2) and the tip(3).
- Turn the nut(4) counterclockwise and remove it from the iron.
- Pull both of the heater(6) and the cord assembly(11) out of the handle(12). (Toward the iron tip direction).
Measure when the heater is at room temperature.
- Resistance value of the heater (resistance between the 2 red wires)≈1Ω
- Resistance value of the sensor (resistance between the 2 blue wires) ≈50Ω If the resistance value is not normal, replace the heater.
NOTE: Wire colors may differ from actual
Replace the heater. (9SS-988-HT)
- Desolder the faulty heater’s leads and remove the heater.
- Replace it with a new one and solder it to PCB properly.
- Solder the two leads of the heater to the other side of PCB. Bend the leads at a right angle when soldering to avoid short-circuit
After the heater is replaced.
- Measure the resistance value between pins 2&5 or pins 3&5 or pins 1&5. If it is not open(∞), the heater or sensor may be in contact with the earthed casing. The problem must be solved otherwise it will damage the PCB.
- Measure the resistance values between all leads to check whether they are normal. Make sure the leads and the earthed spring are well connected.
Faulty soldering iron.
How to check the soldering iron cord.
Check the resistance value between the pins of the plug and the wire on the
terminal.(Pin 1 to wire; Pin 2 to wire; Pin 3 to wire; Pin 4 to wire; Pin 5 to
wire) The value should be <2Ω. If it is more than 2Ω or ∞, the cord is faulty
and the soldering iron needs to be replaced.
Fuse replacement
When fuse is blown, replace with the same type of fuse. (refer to below
picture)
- Unplug the power cord from the power receptacle.
- The fuse holder is located under the AC power receptacle, use the slotted (–) screwdriver to loosen the fuse holder.
- Replace the fuse (∅5xL20mm 3.15A/250V) with new one.
- Put the fuse holder back in place.
Instructions of the desoldering iron gun
Desoldering gun maintenance
WARNINGS:
- To avoid injury or damage to the desoldering gun, do not touch the metallic parts near the nozzle or use it near flammable items.
- Always unplug the gun before any maintenance except for removing the solder waste.
- If the pump does not work, clean the nozzle & heater and replace the filter immediately.
- After use, the solder waste will be stored in the pipe. Clean it in time otherwise the solder waste will block the desoldering gun, or the solder waste will get oxidized (lead free solder’s melting point is 220℃, non-lead-free solder’s melting point is 180℃), swelled and stuck on the inner wall tightly. It can’t be removed even with the cleaning pin.
Please follow the steps below to clean the solder waste:
- Push the knob up to unlock the back holder.
- Take the spring out from the glass tube then clean the solder waste.
- Put the spring back to glass tube, then put glass tube back Press the back holder, then the knob will bullet down and become locked automatically.
Instruction
- After each operation is finished, let the desoldering gun suck in the air 3 5 times soon, which can clean the solder waste inside the pipe.
- If the operation interval is about 20 minutes, use the cleaning tool to clean the pipe after having the desoldering gun suck in the air.
- When you find the desoldering efficiency gets down, please use the cleaning p in to clean the pipe immediately.
- If the operation interval is long, it is advised to adjust the temperature to about 200 ℃℃. When you use it again, you can reset it to the working temperature.
- When the glass tube has absorbed about 1/2 solder waste, clean it immediately. When you find the filter is getting hardened, replace it immediately.
