The phone or computer has to have internet connectivity. A phone or computer cannot be connected directly to the Tappecue.
Can I access the data straight from the unit, or does everything pass through the tappecue company server? Is this a brick in the event that Tappecue fails?
You can connect your phone directly to the device without using our server by using our so-called OFFLINE mode, which works similarly to Bluetooth.
Will my Surface 2 running Windows RT be able to use this?
Setting up a session does require a smartphone that can run iOS or Android. You can use your surface to check temperatures because there is a browser for doing so.

The Tappecue Touch is the most recent iteration.
Is it only 110v or also 110/220v?
The plug is a typical 2 prong 110vac design and delivers 9 volts direct current (dc) at 1.2 amps onto a typical 3 mm female jack. It will operate on 220 vac because the input range is 110-240 vac, however you would need the right plug.
Does this device require an Internet connection on my Wi-Fi to function?
No, WiFi and the Internet are not required for it to function. It offers an OFFLINE mode selection and a very brilliantly lighted colour display that simultaneously displays all temperatures.
Does it solely operate with a power cord or can it also run on internal batteries?
I can’t use the one I bought in 2014 with an integrated battery. It is powered by a power cord. I use a pellet smoker to cook, so if the electricity goes out, I have worse problems.
