Yorkville-PS12S-Parasource-Series-Powered-Subwoofer-01 PS12s, PS15s and PS18s
Congratulations on your purchase of a Parasource Series subwoofer, the best option when adding a subwoofer to Yorkville Sound’s Parasource Series powered speaker enclosures. The PS12s, PS15s and PS18s are premium-quality subwoofers with integrated power amplifiers.

Input Mode Switch

The line-level position is used when the PS12s, PS15s and PS18s are fed a signal from a processor, electronic crossover, the output of an un-powered mixer or the loop-through of a powered speaker cabinet. When in line-level mode, using balanced ¼-inch (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) and/or XLR cables will reduce the unit’s sensitivity to hum and buzz.

For speaker level operation, connect the PS12s, PS15s and PS18s just like an ordinary speaker (in parallel using the loop-through jacks) along with the passive full-range loudspeakers. The speaker level position should be used when the PS12s, PS15s and PS18s are fed with a ¼-inch speaker cable directly from the output of an
amplifier or a powered-mixer. You can also use a speaker level signal from the parallel connection on an un-
powered speaker cabinet.

WARNING:

  • Do not plug in two speaker level sources to a single ES Series Powered Subwoofer!
  • Increasing the Level control while in limiting will not increase the loudness and may lead to feedback when the operating level is reduced.
The PS12s, PS15s and PS18s’ Level Control

The Level control adjusts the amount of bass added to the sound system by the Parasource subwoofer. This control adjusts for the relative sensitivity of the companion full-range loudspeakers and the desired system frequency response. This control should be set by listening with a medium-level input signal (such that the limiter is not firing).

Note: It’s not recommended to set this control at high levels since the limiter will then greatly affect the output level.

Note: Setting the PS12s, PS15s and PS18s Level control at the center detent is the correct starting point when setting up a sound system. From there, adjustments can be made for the best sound. The detent is the setting that will give full power when the line input is used and the input signal is at a level of +3 dBv.

Input (Link) Jacks

The inputs are designed to make it easy to hook up your PS12s, PS15s and PS18s to almost any audio system with minimal hassle. An external crossover is not necessary and connections can be made using the ¼-inch and/or the XLR inputs and Thru connections.
The PS12s, PS15s and PS18s may be plugged in before or after the full-range loudspeakers, they do not alter the signal to the daisy-chained (thru) loudspeakers and will not draw any power from the host amplifier/ processor driving them.

Note: As well as accommodating full-range loudspeakers, the Thru jacks allow many PS12s, PS15s and PS18s subwoofers to be connected in a string (parallel). There is no practical limit to the number of PS12s, PS15s and PS18s subwoofers that may be connected together.

Protection

The PS12s, PS15s and PS18s are protected against excess driver excursion and against voice coil overheating. Please ensure that the line/speaker switch is in the correct position to prevent clipping of the input circuitry. The PS Series Powered Subwoofers have a DSP-based circuit to prevent clipping, over power and over excursion. For the best results, set the system so that the limiter LED occasionally lights up Red and is NOT Yellow all the time. Limiter LED lights Red when the excess driver excursion is active, this keeps the dynamics of the music. When the limiter LED is Yellow the voice coil overheating protection is active, this will compress the dynamics of the music. At high levels the limiter will limit the gain of the PS Series Powered Subwoofer and hence if the user attempts to set the subwoofer level control at a high level, the resulting setting will be overridden by the internal protection. The level control should be set while operating at low levels (under 10 watts). This is accomplished by turning the master volume of the signal going to the subwoofer down to allow the balancing and setting of the bass along with the full range speaker top in use. If the level control is set too high due to setting it at high operating levels the input circuit will clip and the dynamics of the bass will be lost. The Red Clip indicator will signify when this occurs. This can happen without audible distortion since the filters and limiters will suppress the distortion.

Note: At high power levels, when the limiter is operating, increasing the Subwoofer’s Level Control will NOT increase the output. Do NOT continue to increase this setting while operating at high levels.

Stand Mounting Adapter
The PS Series Powered Subwoofers come equipped with a built-in stand mounting adapter that can be used with Yorkville SW Teletube accessory to support powered top cabinets.

WARNING: PS Series Powered Subwoofers MUST be on a flat, level surface to support the cabinet safely. Do not use larger than the recommended top cabinets!

EYEBOLT INSTALLATION

DESCRIPTION

Many of the popular models in the Yorkville speaker cabinet line are now equipped with flying hardware for overhead suspension applications. Depending on the model, two or more internal braces have been provided for rigging purposes. Each brace contains two bolt holes and provides center-of-gravity fly-points for use with in-line or angular loads. Many of the models will support additional suspended cabinets according to their specified working load limits.

IMPORTANT!!
THE RIGGING OF LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEMS IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS MATTER. OVERHEAD RIGGING REQUIRES EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) CALCULATING WORKING LOAD LIMITS, HARDWARE INSTALLATION, AND
PERIODIC SAFETY INSPECTION OF ALL HARDWARE AND CABINETRY. IF YOU LACK THESE QUALIFICATIONS, DO NOT ATTEMPT THE INSTALLATION YOURSELF, BUT INSTEAD USE A PROFESSIONAL STRUCTURAL RIGGER. IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN
RESULT IN BODILY INJURY OR DEATH. CONSULT A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER TO CALCULATE ADDED LOADS FOR A BUILDING. STRUCTURAL REINFORCEMENT MAY BE NECESSARY TO INSURE A SAFE INSTALLATION.

REQUIRED TOOLS
  • 4.5mm (7/32”) Hex Wrench
  • Thread lock adhesive (Removable Type)
EYEBOLT INSTALLATION
  • Using a 4.5mm (7/32”) hex wrench, remove the flat head bolts from the top or bottom of the speaker enclosure to expose the tapped holes (on TX models, the flat head bolts are located within the track rails), as shown below. Be sure to keep these handy as they will be needed to seal the cabinet after the eyebolts are removed.
    IMPORTANT!!
USE ONLY LOAD RATED FORGED EYEBOLTS. THESE MAY BE PURCHASED THROUGH YORKVILLE SOUND OR ATM FLY-WARE™. TO INSURE CABINET-BRACING STRENGTH, MAKE SURE ALL FLY- POINTS ARE SECURED WITH EITHER AN EYEBOLT OR FLAT HEAD HEX BOLT.

  • Place a drop of thread-lock adhesive on the threads of the eyebolt and insert one into exposed hole. Tighten each eyebolt by hand until its fits snugly against the cabinet. Further tighten each eyebolt by rotating it another half turn. Be sure to insert eyebolts in the threaded hole directly in-line with the suspension cable. Always follow the eyebolt manufacturers installation and use instructions.

  • Suspend each cabinet according to working load calculations and practices recommended by the rigging hardware manufacturer.

WORKING LOAD LIMITS

Specified working load limits have been determined for the enclosure as follows:

PS12SF 4 Top 3/8-16 weight of cabinet only
PS15SF 4 Top 3/8-16 weight of cabinet only
PS18SF 4 Side 3/8-16 weight of cabinet only

IMPORTANT!! READ ALL ENCLOSED INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT PROPER USE OF HARDWARE. TO INSURE PROPER INSTALLATION, FOR TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON SUSPENSION TECHNIQUES AND EXTERIOR ACCESSORY INFORMATION WE SUGGEST CALLING ATM FLY-WARES TECHNICAL SERVICES IN THE UNITED STATES AT (310)639-8282 MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 9 AM TO 6 PM (PST) OR FAX AT (310)639-8284. YORKVILLE SOUND MAKES NO CLAIMS AS TO THE SAFETY OF THE ENCLOSURES IF RECOMMENDED LOAD LIMITS AND HARDWARE ARE NOT STRICTLY ADHERED TO. NOR DOES IT MAKE ANY SAFETY CLAIMS TO THE RESULTANT INSTALLATION.
IMPORTANT!! TRACK RAILINGS: UNITS THAT INCORPORATE THE TRACK RAILING SYSTEM HAVE THE SAME WORKING LOAD LIMITS AS THEY DO WHEN THEY ARE USED WITH EYEBOLTS. THESE RATINGS MAY BE LIMITED AND BASED ON THE RATINGS OF THE TRACK FITTINGS THEMSELVES. PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE RATING OF THE CERTIFIED TRACK FITTINGS EXCEEDS NECESSARY WORKING LOAD LIMITS.
