A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

Excessive sound pressure on earand headphones could impair the hearing ability. Higher setting that idle on the equalizer leads to higher signal voltages on the output for ear and headphones.
The power plug should be close to the radio, and easy to be approached that during the emergency, to disconnect the power from the radio, just unplug the power plug from the AC power slot.
Where the MAINS plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnected device shall remain readily operable.
To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

All instructions in the manual use the controls on the radio itself. If you would want to use the remote control instead, use the corresponding buttons on the remote control instead. Some features, such as the mute feature and storing / recalling presets can only be controlled using the remote control.

Getting started

Finding a suitable location for the radio

After unpacking the radio from the box, take the following guidelines into account when finding a suitable location for the radio:

Place the radio on a flat, even surface such as a table.
Do not place the radio near heat sources.
Make sure there is sufficient space available around the radio for proper ventilation.

Preparing the remote control

The radio’s remote control requires two AAA batteries to operate. To place the batteries:

Open the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
Insert two AAA batteries in the battery compartment with polarities as shown in the diagram inside the battery compartment.
Close the battery compartment again.

Connecting the radio to the mains power supply

The DDR-47BT can be powered using the supplied AC power cord. Before connecting the plug of the AC power cord to a wall socket, please ensure that the voltage that the wall socket supplies is within the supported range printed at the back of the radio (100-240 V ~ 50/60 Hz).

If this is the case, first connect the connector of the power cord to the radio and then insert the plug of the power cord into the wall socket.

Initial operation

After your DDR-47BT has been supplied with power for the first time, the radio’s display will show a blinking time, indicating the time has not yet been set, and the default date. To automatically set the date and time, follow these steps:

Before turning on the radio, carefully extend the antenna at the back of the radio.
Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
The radio will switch on in the DAB mode and automatically scan for DAB stations.
Once the scan is complete, the radio will list all stations that were found.
Use the TUNING UP / DOWN button to scroll through the list of stations, select the desired station and press the SELECT button to tune into the selected station.
After tuning into the selected station, the time and date should be automatically updated to the current time and date.

NOTE
If the radio would be unable to find any DAB stations, it is also possible to automatically synchronize the time and date by tuning into an FM radio station broadcasting RDS information. refer to chapter 5 “Listening to FM radio” for details on this.

Setting the time and date manually

If the time cannot automatically be set following the above instructions or if you want to set the time yourself, follow these steps:

Press and hold the TIME SET button.
The time mode will be blinking on the radio’s display.
Press the TUNING UP / DOWN button to select either 24 Hours or 12 Hours and press the SELECT button to confirm your choice. If the 12 hour time mode is selected, the time will be displayed with an AM / PM indicator after the time is set.
After setting the time mode you will be asked to set the hour, minutes, year, month and date.
Press the TUNING UP / DOWN to select a value and press the SELECT button to confirm.

NOTE
If the 12 hour time mode is selected in step 3, make sure that AM / PM (shown in front of the time) is set correctly as well when setting the current hour.

Configuring the radio’s equalizer

The sound on your radio can be adjusted to suit your personal taste for the material that you are listening to. This radio has 6 preset equalizer modes you can choose from. Alternatively, you can also configure the bass and treble level yourself.

To configure the equalizer, follow these steps:

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Repeatedly press the EQ button to select one of the preset equalizer modes:
- Flat
- Jazz
- Rock
- ● Classic
  ● Pop
  ● News
  ● Treble
  ● Bass
When selecting [Treble] or [Bass], use the TUNING UP / DOWN button to configure the treble or bass level. The current level is shown on the radio’s display using a bar graph.
After selecting the desired equalizer mode or treble / bass level, press the SELECT button or simply wait until the radio switches back to the playback display.

Your DDR-47BT features a main menu for each of the different modes. In most cases, these menus contain several items specific to the mode and some general items that are applied in any mode.

This section will list the general items that can be found in most of the radio’s menus. The items that are specific for certain modes will be listed in their respective chapters later on in this manual.

To open the menu for a certain mode, select the mode using the SOURCE or MEDIA button and then press and hold the INFO / MENU button. The menu can be navigated using the TUNING UP / DOWN button and items can be selected using the SELECT button. The menu can be closed by either waiting several seconds without any input or by pressing the MENU / INFO button again.

In most of the radio’s menus the following general items can be found:

[Backlight]: Select this option to configure the radio’s backlight level from 1 (darkest) to 7 (brightest).
[Touch Pad Set]: Select this option to configure the touchpad’s sensitivity.
The available options are [Low], [Normal], [High].
[Loudness]: Select this option to enable or disable the radio’s loudness feature.
[Auto update]: Select this option to configure how the radio’s time and date should be updated. The available options are [From Any] (either DAB or FM), [From DAB], [From FM], and [No update].
[SW version]: Select this option to view the radio’s DAB, CD and BT software version.
[Factory reset]: Select this option to reset the radio to the default factory settings. After confirmation, all user settings will be erased.
[Software Update]: Select this option to update the radio’s software. In order to update the software, a USB device containing the software update should be connected to the USB-B port.

Listening to DAB radio

Tuning into DAB stations

To tune into DAB radio stations, follow these steps:

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Select the DAB radio mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE button.
If this is the first time the DAB radio mode is being used, the radio will automatically perform a full scan in order to find all available DAB radio stations. During the scanning process, as new stations are detected the station counter will increase and the stations will be added to the list which is stored in the radio. The bar graph indicates the progress of the scan.
When scanning is completed, the radio will list all stations that were found.
Use the TUNING UP / DOWN button to scroll through the list of stations and press the SELECT button to tune into a station.

NOTE
Before selecting the DAB radio mode and performing a scan, make sure the antenna at the back of the radio is fully extended and the radio’s reception is good.

Storing and recalling DAB presets

Your DDR-47BT features 10 presets for the DAB band. A DAB radio station can be stored as a preset by tuning into it and then pressing and holding one of the numeric buttons on the remote control.
Presets can be recalled by simply pressing the corresponding numeric button on the remote control.

The DAB radio menu contains the following items only related to the DAB radio mode:

[Station list]: Select this option display all DAB radio stations that were found and tune into one of the stations. If no stations were previously found, the radio will perform a new full scan.
[Full scan]: Select this option to perform a full scan and store all DAB radio stations that were found in the station list.
[Manual tune]: Select this option to manually tune into a DAB channel / frequency.
[DRC]: Dynamic Range Control (also known as DRC) can make quieter sounds easier to hear when your radio is used in a noisy environment by reducing the dynamic range of the audio signal.
Select this option to configure the DRC level. The available options are:
- [DRC high]: DRC is set as sent by broadcaster.
- [DRC low]: DRC level is set to 1 / 2 that sent by broadcaster.
- [DRC off]: DRC is switched off. Broadcast DRC will be ignored.
  This is the default setting.
[Station Order]: Select this option to configure the DAB station order. The available options are [Alphanumeric], [Active] and [Multiplex].
[Prune Station]: Select this option to delete all unavailable stations from the station list.

Showing DAB information on the display

When listening to a DAB radio broadcast, repeatedly press the INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on the radio’s display.

Frequency
Bit rate & Audio type
Strength
Signal error

If the broadcast being received is in stereo, then the stereo indicator will be shown at the top right of the radio’s display.

Listening to FM radio

Tuning into FM stations

To tune into FM radio stations, follow these steps:

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Select the FM radio mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE button.
Press and hold the TUNING UP / DOWN button to automatically tune into an FM station with a higher or lower frequency respectively. Your radio will stop scanning when it finds a station of sufficient strength. The display will show the frequency of the signal which has been found along with “RDS” if RDS information is available. If the broadcast being received is in stereo, then the stereo indicator will be shown at the top right of the radio’s display.
Press the TUNING UP / DOWN button to fine-tune the frequency with steps of 0.05MHz if needed.
Repeat the steps 3 and 4 to tune into other radio stations.

NOTE
Before selecting the FM radio mode and tuning into stations, make sure the antenna at the back of the radio is fully extended and the radio’s reception is good.

Storing and recalling FM presets

Your DDR-47BT features 10 presets for the FM band. An FM radio station can be stored as a preset by tuning into it and then pressing and holding one of the numeric buttons on the remote control. Presets can be recalled by simply pressing the corresponding numeric button on the remote control.

The FM radio menu contains the following items only related to the FM radio mode:

[Scan setting]: Select this option to configure if the radio should only look for strong signals or all signals when pressing and holding TUNING UP / DOWN. Select [Local] to only search for strong signals or [Distant] to search for all signals.
[Audio setting]: Select this option to configure if the radio should only play FM stations in mono. Select [Stereo] to play in stereo (when available) or select [Mono only] to force mono. Forcing the radio to play FM broadcasts in mono can help reduce noise when listening to FM broadcasts

Showing FM information on the display

When listening to a FM radio station that is also broadcasting RDS information (“RDS” is shown on the display), repeatedly press the INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on the radio’s display:

Text message
Program type
Reception type (stereo / mono)
Today’s date and time

If no RDS information is available, the radio will be unable to display the text message and program type. It will display the reception type and today’s date and time, however.

Listening to Bluetooth audio

In order to stream Bluetooth music to your radio, you need to pair your Bluetooth device with the DDR-47BT. Pairing creates a ‘bond’ so two devices can recognize each other.

Pairing your Bluetooth device for the first time

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Select the Bluetooth mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE button. The Bluetooth indicator will now blink, to indicate the radio is discoverable.
Activate Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device (refer to the manual of the Bluetooth device if you are unsure about how to active Bluetooth).
Go to the Bluetooth list on your Bluetooth device and select the device named “DDR-47BT”.
NOTE
On some Bluetooth devices with Bluetooth version 2.1 or earlier, you might be requested to enter a passcode. If this is the case, enter the passcode “0000”.
After the devices have paired and connected, a confirmation tone will be played on the radio, the radio’s Bluetooth indicator will continuousl light up blue and the radio’s display will show the name, artist and the album of the current song and the name of the connected Bluetooth device. You can now play music on your Bluetooth device and stream the music through the radio’s speakers.

NOTES:

If 2 Bluetooth devices are pairing for the first time, both must search for your radio, it will show its availability on both devices. However, if one device links with this unit first, then the other Bluetooth device won’t find it on the list.
If you take your Bluetooth device out of range, the connection between your device and the radio will be temporarily disconnected. Your radio will automatically reconnect if the Bluetooth device is brought back into range. Be aware that during the period of disconnection, no other Bluetooth device can pair or link with your radio.
If “DDR-47BT” shows up in your Bluetooth device list, but your Bluetooth device cannot connect with it, please delete the item from your list and pair the Bluetooth device with the radio again following the steps described previously.
The effective operation range between the radio and the paired Bluetooth device is approximately 10 meters (30 feet). Any obstacle between the system and the device can reduce the operational range.
Bluetooth connectivity performance may vary depending on the connected Bluetooth device. Please refer to the Bluetooth capabilities of your device before connecting it to your radio.
Not all features may be supported, depending on the Bluetooth device used.
With some mobile phones, making / receiving calls, text messages, e-mails or any other activities unrelated to audio streaming may mute the Bluetooth audio streaming or even temporarily disconnect from your device. Such behavior is a function of the Bluetooth device and does not indicate a problem with your DDR-47BT.

Audio playback in the Bluetooth mode

After you have successfully connected your radio with the chosen Bluetooth device, you can start to play your music using the controls on the radio or your connected Bluetooth device.

Once playback has started, the radio will show the title of the song, the artist, the album and the connected device at the bottom of the radio’s display.
The volume can be adjusted both on the radio using the VOLUME + / – button and on the Bluetooth device using the volume control of the device.
Playback can be controlled both on the radio and on the Bluetooth device as well. Press the PLAY / PAUSE button to start playing audio or to pause / resume playback. Press the TUNING UP / DOWN button to go to the previous or next track and hold the TUNING UP / DOWN button to fast forward or fast rewind within a track.
NOTE
Not all player applications or devices may respond to all of these controls.

Audio play back from a previously-paired Bluetooth device

The DDR-47BT can memorize up to 6 sets of paired Bluetooth devices, when the memory exceed this amount, the earliest device with which the radio was paired will be overwritten in the radio’s memory.

If your Bluetooth device has previously paired with the DDR-47BT previously, the radio will still remember your Bluetooth device and attempt to reconnect with the device that was last connected. If the last connected Bluetooth device is not available, the radio will try to connect to the second last Bluetooth device.

Showing Bluetooth information on the display

When listening to Bluetooth audio, repeatedly press the INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on the radio’s display:

Disconnecting your Bluetooth device

To disconnect your Bluetooth device, either turn off Bluetooth on the Bluetooth device, press and hold the EQ / BLUETOOTH PAIR button on the radio or switch to another mode on the radio by pressing either the SOURCE or MEDIA button. If you disconnect the Bluetooth device while the radio is in the Bluetooth mode, the Bluetooth indicator will start blinking again to indicate that the radio is available for pairing again.

Listening to audio from CD

The DDR-47BT is capable of playing CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs and can play both normal audio CDs and CDs with MP3 and WMA files (with the exception of files encoded using WMA lossless, WMA Voice, WMA 10 professional and files with DRM protection).

Audio playback in the CD mode

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Select the CD mode by repeatedly pressing the MEDIA button. After selecting the CD mode, the radio’s display will show it’s reading the disc and if no CD has been played, it displays “No Disc”.
Insert a CD with the label side facing up. The radio’s display will show “Reading” while the CD is being read.
After the CD is read, press the PLAY / PAUSE button to start / pause playback.
Press the TUNING DOWN button to go to the start of the current track or the previous track when the current track is at the start. If the current track is the first track of a folder on a CD with MP3 or WMA files, the radio will switch back to the last track of the previous folder.
Press and hold the TUNING DOWN button to fast rewind within a track.
Press the TUNING UP button to go to the next track. If the current track is the last track of a folder on a CD with MP3 or WMA files, the radio will switch to the first track of the next folder. On an MP3 or WMA CD with multiple folders, you can also press the FOLDER UP button to go straight to the first track of the next folder. Press and hold the TUNING UP button to fast forward within a track.
Repeatedly press the REPEAT button to select a repeat mode. The available repeat modes are:
- Repeat one track
- Repeat a folder (on an MP3 or WMA CD)
- Repeat all tracks
- Play intros (the first 10 seconds of all tracks are played)
  The indicator of the selected repeat mode is shown on the radio’s display.
  After playing intros, press the REPEAT button once more to switch back to normal playback.
Press the SELECT / STOP button to stop playback. The radio’s display will now show the total number of folders and tracks on the CD.

NOTE
When using the remote control you can directly go back to the previous folder of an MP3 / WMA disc using the FOLDER DOWN button.

Showing CD information on the display

When playing audio CDs with MP3 and / or WMA files, repeatedly press the INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on the radio’s display:

Listening to audio from or recording audio to a USB device or SD card

The DDR-47BT is capable of playing MP3 and WMA files (with the exception of files encoded using WMA lossless, WMA Voice, WMA 10 professional and files with DRM protection) from USB devices or SD cards.

Playing files from a USB device or SD card

To play audio files from a USB device or SD card, follow these steps:

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Insert the USB device in the USB port or SD card in de SD card slot.
Select the USB or SD mode by repeatedly pressing the MEDIA button.
After selecting either of these two modes, the radio’s display will show “Reading” while the radio is reading the content of the USB device or SD card.
After the content of the USB device or SD card has been read, playback of the first track of the first folder will automatically start. The display will show “01 001 00:00”.
The first number represents the folder number, the second number represents the track number within the current folder and the third number represents play time.
Press the PLAY / PAUSE button to pause / resume playback.
Press the TUNING DOWN button to go to the start of the current track or the previous track when the current track is at the start. If the current track is the first track of a folder, the radio will switch back to the last track of the previous folder. Press and hold the TUNING DOWN button to fast rewind within a track
Press the TUNING UP button to go to the next track. If the current track is the last track of a folder, the radio will switch to the first track of the next folder. Alternatively, you can also press the FOLDER UP button to go straight to the first track of the next folder. Press and hold the TUNING UP button to fast forward within a track.
Repeatedly press the REPEAT button to select a repeat mode. The available repeat modes are:
- Repeat one track
- Repeat a folder
- Repeat all tracks
- Play intros (the first 10 seconds of all tracks are played)
  The indicator of the selected repeat mode is shown on the radio’s display. After playing intros, press the REPEAT button once more to switch back to normal playback.
Press the SELECT / STOP button to stop playback. The radio’s display will now show the total number of folders and tracks on the USB device or SD card.

NOTE
When using the remote control you can directly go back to the previous folder using the FOLDER DOWN button.

Recording audio to a USB device or SD card

To record audio that is being played by the radio to a USB device or SD card, follow these steps:

Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
Insert the USB device in the USB port or SD card in de SD card slot.
Select the desired mode and playback the audio that you want to record.
Press and hold the REPEAT / REC button. The radio will now initialize recording to the USB device or SD card.
Press and hold the REPEAT / REC button again to stop the recording.
Recordings are saved as MP3 files named “RECXXX” (XXX being the number of the recording, so the first recording is named “REC001”, the second “REC002”, etc.) in a folder named “REC” on the storage device.

The USB / SD radio menu contains the following items only related to these modes:

[Delete / Format]: Select this option to delete files or format the USB device or SD card. The available options in this menu are [Delete] to delete the currently playing song and [Format] to format the USB device or SD card.

Showing track information on the display

When listening to audio from a USB device or SD card, repeatedly press the INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on the radio’s display:

File name, Title, Artist, Album

Listening to audio using the Aux in socket

You can listen to the sound of an external device (such as an iPod or MP3 player) through the speakers of the DDR-47BT. To do this, follow these
steps:

Connect the external device to the radio’s AUX IN socket at the back of the radio using a 3.5mm audio cable (not included).
Make sure both the radio and the external device are turned on.
Select the AUXIN mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE button.
4. The audio output of the external device will now be played through the speakers of the DDR-47BT.
Playback must be controlled on the external device, while the volume can be controlled both on the radio and on the external device

Other features

Setting the alarms

The DDR-47BT features two separate alarms, which can both be configured in the same manner. To configure the alarms follow these steps:

Press the ALARM button.
Use the TUNING UP / DOWN button to select either [Alarm 1] or [Alarm 2] and press the SELECT button to confirm your choice.
Select [Setting] to configure the settings of the alarm selected in step 2.
Use the TUNING UP / DOWN buttons to configure the alarm status (on / off), the alarm time, the alarm mode (BUZZER / FM / DAB / CD / USB / SD), the alarm frequency (DAILY / WEEKDAYS / WEEKENDS / ONCE) and the alarm volume.
You have now set the alarm and the indicator of enabled alarms will be shown on the left side of the radio’s display.

NOTES

When an alarm sounds, press the POWER button to turn off the alarm and switch the radio back to the standby mode. Press any of the other buttons on the radio (except for the VOLUME + / – button) to snooze the alarm for 5 minutes. When the snooze feature is active, the snooze indicator will be blinking on the radio’s display.
Select [View] in step 3 to view the settings of the alarm selected in step 2. Repeatedly press the SELECT button to cycle through all the settings.
If the alarm mode is set to FM, DAB, CD, USB or SD, but the selected mode is unavailable when the alarm sounds, the radio will automatically switch over to the buzzer alarm.

Setting the sleep timer

The sleep timer allows you to automatically turn off the radio after a preset time has elapsed and can be set from 10 to 120 minutes in 10 minute increments. Repeatedly press the SLEEP timer button to configure the sleep timer.

When the sleep timer is enabled, the sleep timer indicator will be shown on the left side of the radio’s display. The remaining sleep timer time can be shown by pressing the SLEEP button after the sleep timer has been set and it can be cancelled by repeatedly pressing the SLEEP button until [Sleep off] is selected.

Using headphones

Any headphones featuring a 3.5mm jack can be connected to the HEADPHONES socket at the back of the radio. Simply connect the 3.5mm jack of the headphones to the socket to start listening using headphones. After connecting headphones to the socket, the radio’s speakers will be muted.

IMPORTANT
Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

Line Out socket

A 3.5mm stereo Line Out socket is provided on the rear of your sound system to permit the audio signal to be fed to an external amplifier or other audio device. Inserting an audio cable into this socket will not mute the internal loudspeaker. Set the volume control to a low level if desired (minimum level = 1).
Setting the volume to MIN may cause the line output to be muted.

Charging with USB socket

The USB jack can only provide power for the USB memory stick only with 1A 5V maximum and most of iPhone models.
However, it does not support external Hard disk drive and all of mobile phones and electronic device.

IMPORTANT
Do not connect this USB socket with your PC USB port, as it highly possible may cause breakdown of the units.

Aerial removal

The fitted telescopic aerial is suitable for most applications. In some locations if reception conditions are poor, an external antenna may be more suitable.
For this purpose the telescopic aerial may be removed to allow connection to an external aerial using a coaxial cable.
