TRIAX OTX 1310 SAT FO Transmitter

Attention

The installation and commissioning may only be performed by suitably qualified persons, technicians or installers in compliance with safety regulations like EN 62368-1 and EN 60728-11. Pay also attention to the specific safety instructions and advices you find in this user manual! Failure to comply with the specified precautionary measures may cause serious injury to persons or damage to property. Damage due to improper installation and commissioning, defective connectors on cables or any other incorrect handling will void the warranty.

Disconnect mains power before working on electrical systems.

  • Any additional electrical wiring requirements should always be installed by a suitably qualified person(s).
  • Installation or service work should NEVER be undertaken during electrical / thunderstorms.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) after end of life

  • Do not dispose these products in household waste! Dispose them for recovery and recycling following the current National and European legislation and regulations.

Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to enable the successful installation of the TRIAX SAT Fibre Optic System, utilizing the OTX at the SAT fibre optic headend. Please read and follow to the advices comprehensively.

Functional description
The SAT FO Transmitter OTX has two coaxial RF inputs for connecting with the vertical and horizontal SAT-IF signal cables coming from the wideband LNB TRIAX TWB 40 (307784) with LOF 10,41 GHz. The LNB is voltage supplied by the V- port of the OTX. The OTX unit consists of the frequency stacker for the H,V and TER RF bands and the optical transmitter. The OTX can drive a PON (Passive Optical Network) with optical split up to 32 outlines where the TRIAX optical re-converters TVQ 06, TVC 06 and TOM 08 M/S can be connected directly.

  • OTX 1310 designed with a 1310nm laser transmitter supports standard applications like shown in fig.1. The OTX 1310 can drive Passive Optical Network (PON) with up to 32 fibre lines directly. The network can be expanded by using of active FO Repeaters TRIAX OTO 32 (order separately).
  • OTX 1550 with 1550nm laser transmitter is recommended for large installations using EDVAs for enabling of very high optical splitting rates in the optical network. The 1550nm variant of the OTX is also appointed for WDM operation in GPON or EPON in order to combine SAT reception with data service applications.

This guide assumes that:

  • The installation is carried out by a competent person.
  • A site survey has been completed; the location for dish has been chosen and the dish has been installed.
  • The location for the SAT FO Headend OTX has been selected.
  • SAT Wideband LNB TWB 40 has also been installed following its separate user manual.
  • The passive optical network (PON) has been planned and installed correctly; using TRIAX approved optical couplers and cables.
  • All ferrule end faces of the FC/PC optical connectors are cleaned prior to making a connection using a suitable fibre.

Specific safety instructions

  •  Never connect the PSU on mains before all cables have been connected to the OTX unit completely.
  • Never look with into a fibre core line or fibre connector that is operating with a laser transmitter like in the OTX. The laser light is not visible but can harm the eye. Take care for Laser Class 1 in EN 60825-1.
  • Do not connect unfiltered terrestrial antennas directly to the port labelled FM/DAB/DTT.
  • Not used F-connectors shall be closed with DC blocked 75 Ohm terminator like TRIAX RFC 75 DCB (350659).
  • The OTX unit needs to connect with the wire for potential equalization of the building! The grounding cable can be clamped with screw and tooth washer onto a fasten hole in the feet of the OTX unit or the OTX is mounted on a grounded mast or base plate.

Installation

TRIAX recommends locating the OTX unit in a dry room or cabinet. Alternatively outdoor installation is possible i.e. directly onto the pole or mast behind a dish by using the mounting bracket (see below, order separately) and the fibre and coaxial connectors should be water proofed e.g. by gel boot and amalgamating tape.

Optical connection

  • Clean the output fibre optical connector and check the optical power using a suitable optical power meter. Optical power out of the OTX should be +8dBm ±0.5dB.
  • Clean the optical connector of the patch cable and connect it to the optical output of the OTX unit, ensuring the keyway is aligned.

Coaxial connections

  • Ports labelled V or H should be connected to a suitable wideband LNB (recommended TRIAX TWB 40) ensuring correct polarizations are connected to the relevant ports. Please note: Voltage is supplied for the TWB 40 LNB powering via V port: +12Vdc. Maximum current 500mA incl. Terrestrial.
  • Port labelled FM/DAB/DTT input should be connected to the terrestrial antenna system. It’s mandatory using appropriate antenna combiners, LTE filters or selective pre- or multiband amplifiers like TRIAX GNS 34 or TMB 1500 for optimum performance and sufficient LTE protection.

Powering

  • The FO Headend OTX incl. wideband LNB can be directly powered on the F-connector power input using the PSU +20V TPS 323 (307657) with jack of F-connector.
  • The mains adapter (PSU) is the disconnect device for OTX and TWB unit. Please ensure it is easily accessible.
  • LED on the OTX is to indicate correct powering of unit. The LED should be a constant green.

Bracket mount onto pole or antenna mast

  1. STEP 1 Using the supplied fixings attach the pole mount bracket to the back of OTX transmitter device. Ensuring the washer is fitted and the nut tightened. This should be fitted before mounting on a mast.
  2. STEP 2 Once bracket is secured to the OTX open jubilee clip through slots as shown left. Attach around mast and tighten using a flat bladed screwdriver.
