during installation.
HARDWARE OVERVIEW:
REQUIRED TOOLS
WIRING DETAIL
WARNING
Overloading circuits can cause fires. DO NOT exceed:
- Max. stop/turn/backup light: 2 per side (4.2 amps)
- Max. tail lights: (7.5 amps)
- Max. 7 Way 12 Volt +: (30 amps)
Read the vehicle owner’s manual & instruction sheet for additional information.
PREP VEHICLE:
-
Locate the vehicle’s battery on the driver’s side under the hood. A
-
Disconnect and isolate the vehicle’s negative battery terminal.
-
Open rear tailgate. Locate and remove the 8mm bolts retaining the taillights assemblies on both the driver and passenger’s side. b
-
Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both driver’s and passenger’s taillight assemblies being careful to not damage any locking tabs. Place taillights aside.
-
See the Module Connection section for taillight connectors removal (Detail A).
MODULE CONNECTION:
-
Beginning on the driver’s side and underneath the vehicle, route the harness containing the yellow wire up through the opening between the bedside and frame to the driver’s side taillight pocket. and D
Note: For ease of installation use a fish wire between the taillight pocket and bedside to pull the harness from underneath the vehicle out through the taillight pocket. -
Insert the T-One® Connector end, with the yellow wire, between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place.
All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt. A -
Underneath the vehicle below the driver’s side taillight pocket, mount the T-One® Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided.
-
CAUTION Make sure the module is mounted so that the epoxy side of the module is pointed towards the ground to prevent any water buildup
-
Locate a suitable grounding point near the black box such as an existing ground stud or drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. (Do not drill into vehicle floor or bed.) Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area.
-
CAUTION Verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and/or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
-
Underneath the vehicle, route the harness containing the green wire along the rear bumper area to the passenger’s side under the taillight pocket area.
-
Underneath the vehicle on the passenger’s side, route the harness containing the green wire up through the opening between the bedside and frame to the passenger’s side taillight pocket.
-
Insert the T-One® Connector end, with the green wire, between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place.
All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt. A
BODY HARNESS
-
Starting underneath on the driver’s side locate and connect the Black/Blue/Red wires from the jacketed cable to the module’s black box using the supplied Perma seal butt connectors.
(See wiring detail for reference.) -
Underneath the vehicle, route the jacketed cable along the vehicle’s body up to the engine compartment’s battery location.
WARNING If routing the wire thru a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, be careful to avoid any hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. -
Route the body harness’s black wire to the vehicle’s Positive battery post. Connect the 30amp Fuse holder Labeled (7-way) with a supplied butt connector to the fuse holder.
Connect the supplied ring terminal to the opposite end of the fuse holder.
Insure the 30-amp fuse is removed (if not remove it) and connect the ring terminal to the positive battery post. (See wiring detail for reference.)|
BRAKE CONTROL HARNESS
-
Determine a suitable mounting point on the tow vehicle for the Electric Brake Control Harness.
Note: Brake Control not included. Brake Control Harness is designed to work with Tekonsha® Brake Controls such as 90195, 90885 or 90160. Go to www.tekonsha.com for more details or where to buy. -
Route the Brake Control Harness’ White/Blue/Black wires through an existing grommet on the firewall and into the engine compartment. Route wires through the grommet by creating a small hole in the grommet to pass the wires through.
-
Route the Brake Control Harness’ white wire to the existing vehicle chassis ground point. Using provided ring terminal, mount.
-
Route the Brake Control Harness’ Black wire to the vehicle’s positive post underneath the hood.
Using a 30 amp fuse holder (Brake Control), butt connector, and ring terminal, connect. -
Route Blue wire (Electric Brake Output) to Body Harness Blue wire. Using a butt connector, connect blue wires.
-
Using the supplied convoluted tubing, cover the Blue/Black/Red (and partially cover the white) wires from the grommet to the fuse holder.
-
Secure the brake harness connector near desired Brake control mounting location.
-
(See Wiring detail for connection details).
7-WAY HARNESS:
- Determine the 7-Way mounting location.
- Route the 7-Way Harness containing the 7 wires behind the rear bumper fascia and over the bumper support bracket, towards the Mounting location.
- Using wire insertion detail, pin 7-Way Connector.
- Connect 7-Way connector and 7-Way socket. Mount 7-Way (Bracket not included).
- (See Wiring detail for connection details).
COMPLETION:
- Secure the harness with the cable ties provided, to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut or melt the wire.
- Apply heat directly to butt connectors, working from the center out to the edges, using a hot air gun or another source, until the tubing recovers and the adhesive flows. Allow cooling before inspecting the splice and checking its integrity.
- Replace all coverings, grommets, or any other components that were removed for ease of installation. Some grommets will need to be altered to allow wires to pass through. Seal altered grommets with silicone.
- Reconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
7-Way not functioning
properly| Ensure T-One® T-Connector ends are fully inserted and locked in
place. Remove the Tow Harness power Module 25 amp fuse for 10 seconds and
repeat the test.| Check chassis grounds. Ensure ring terminals are in full
contact with the vehicle’s chassis. Remove
Tow Harness power Module 25 amp fuse for 10 seconds and repeat test.
---|---|---
No Power to 7-Way| Installation may have activated circuit protection. Start
the vehicle and turn all functions off Tail (headlights), brake, and turn.
Remove the Tow Harness power Module 25 amp fuse for 10 seconds and repeat the
test.| Ensure a 25 amp fuse is fully inserted into the fuse holder. The fuse
should have no breaks. The fuse holder is connected properly to the positive
post of the battery. Remove the 25 amp fuse for 10 seconds and repeat the
test.
Ensure the module is connected to B+.
Using a tester or volt meter check for voltage on either side of the yellow
