**ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
**
▼ HEY! TORQUE BOY: READ BEFORE YOU INSTALL DECKED ▼
-
Don’t go rogue on us, please read the instructions.
-
Don’t over-tighten screws, get em’ hand-tight.
-
Don’t use power tools.
-
If you don’t follow directions and do use power tools:
A. Set clutch at a very low setting.
B. If you blow it: Two extra threaded inserts are included in BAG
PREP-EXTRA. That’s all you get, unless you call us and ask for more. The inserts will replace any stripped inserts in the four corner supports or the faces of the center vert at the torsion brace, but NOT THE TOP OF THE CENTER VERT, so hand tightens until snug only! You can also screw the inserts back in if dislocated. There is a straight screwdriver slot on the underside of the threaded insert. -
Start all screws with fingers to avoid cross-threading.
-
Nice job if you’re still reading
-
TAILGATE corner supports have axles; CAB SIDE corner supports don’t.
-
You will need a buddy to help with exactly one step.
PREP ALL CORNER SUPPORTS: L-BRACKET INSTALL
- Install a nylon washer onto 16 of the 1/2” long screws in BAG 1/2” SCREWS.
- Install 2 corner support L-brackets with 1/2” long screws on all four corner supports where shown – no nuts needed here; BAG PREP DR8/DR9.
PREP CAB SIDE CORNER SUPPORTS: BRACKET INSTALL
- Find the two corners supports with NO axles installed. These are the curbside corner supports.
- Install the alignment pin bracket onto the curbside corner supports in the locations shown with the 3/4” screws and flanged nuts; BAG PREP DR8/DR9, 3/4” SCREWS, and FLANGED NUTS.
- Slide rubber bushing onto pin; BAG PREP DR8/DR9. Push until seated.
PREP BED: CAB SIDE BRACKET INSTALL
- Install a nylon washer on two 1” screws; BAG NYLON WASHERS and 1” SCREWS.
- Install cab side mounting bracket (green) and clamp (blue) around RAM tie down ring (red) as shown in DETAIL A; BAG PREP DR8/DR9 and FLANGED NUTS. Repeat another side.
- Perform a light stretching routine.
ASSEMBLY: DRIVER’S SIDE DECK
-
There are five pre-installed gaskets – one on the top center channel of the vert, one on each underside of the decks where they rest on the center vert, and one on the top side of each C-channel.
-
Place C-channel on the inside ledges of the DRIVER SIDE CAB SIDE corner support and the DRIVER SIDE TAILGATE corner support. THE FOAM STRIP MUST BE ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE C-CHANNEL – don’t get this wrong!
-
The C-channel endplate must rest on the cab side corner support.
-
Verify that the tailgate corner support’s axle is closest to the tailgate; if not, swap for the other tailgate corner support. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
-
Install nylon washers onto four 1” screws.
-
Loosely bolt C-channel to the two corners supports using the 1” screws with nylon washers and flanged nuts. Make sure the screw head is in the C-channel, not on the corner support side. As shown by the solid GREEN lines.
Don’t tighten yet. -
Line up the driver’s side deck (sticker or mark on the end of deck panel indicates LEFT/DRIVER) on top of the C-channel/ corner support assembly and the center vert bosses. Use caution not to tear the foam on the top of the C-channel. Hey Sparky: Tailgate end of the center vert has an axle installed; the center vert axle and corner support axles must be on the tailgate end (not cab side end) of the assembly. This is important – and your 2nd warning.
-
Using four of the 3/4” screws and flanged nuts, insert a screw through the deck panel into the four, L-shaped brackets installed on the corner support (please see DETAIL A – BLUE lines indicate these screws).
-
Do not over-tighten.
-
Use the .905” dog point screws to install the deck panel to the center vert – no nuts needed. Start all screws with fingers to avoid cross-threading and tighten just until snug.
-
Now tighten the loose screws connecting the corner supports to the C-channel.
-
If you must use power tools, use with caution! Set drill clutch to low torque.
ASSEMBLY: PASSENGER’S SIDE DECK
-
Using the driver’s side assembly you just built as support, assemble the passenger side.
-
Place the C-channel on the inside ledges of the PASSENGER SIDE CAB SIDE corner support and the PASSENGER SIDE TAILGATE corner support. THE FOAM STRIP MUST BE ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE C-CHANNEL.
-
The C-channel endplate must rest on the cab side corner support.
-
You should have the correct tailgate corner support for this step. The axle will be on the tailgate side of the system.
If not, swap the tailgate corner supports now. That was your 3rd warning. Shammalammadingdong. -
Install nylon washers onto four 1” screws.
-
Loosely bolt C-channel to the two corners supports using the 1” screws with nylon washers and flanged nuts. Make sure the screw head is in the C-channel, not on the corner support side. As shown by the solid green lines. Deja vu, don’t tighten yet.
-
Line up the passenger’s side deck (sticker or mark on end of deck panel indicates RIGHT/PASSENGER) on top of the C-channel/corner support assembly.
-
Using four of the 3/4” screws and flanged nuts, insert a screw through deck panel into the four, L-shaped corner support brackets (BLUE lines indicate these screws). Do not over-tighten.
-
Use the .905” screws to install the deck panel to the center vert – no nuts needed. Start all screws with fingers to avoid cross-threading. Tighten just until snug.
-
Now tighten the loose bolts connecting the corner supports to the C-channel.
PASSENGER SIDE DECK HALF
ASSEMBLY: CAB SIDE TORSION BRACE
-
The two torsion braces are the same and are installed on the cab side and tailgate ends of the system.
-
Start with the cab side torsion brace; the tailgate side will be installed later.
-
Install a nylon washer onto four .905” dog point screws.
-
Slide a torsion brace under center vert and cab side corner supports. There should be NO axles on this side.
That was your 4 th warning. As they say, three strikes and you’re out! -
Start all screws with your fingers. Loosely install two .905” dog point screws with nylon washers into both holes in the center vert and into each corner support. Tighten just until snug. Overtightening can spin out the inserts.
INSTALL: ASSEMBLY
(NOW, BACK TO THE TRUCK)
- Now, grab your buddy to help you lift the assembly into the back of the truck.
- Be sure to lift the cab side alignment pins over the tailgate side tie-down loop when sliding the system forward.
- Slide forward until the cab side alignment pins engage into the cab side support brackets and the system rests against the cab side wall.
STOP: The location for the bracket install on the tailgate corner support
depends on your truck bed length! Pay attention below.
DR8 + DR9 INSTALL: TAILGATE BRACKETS
- Use the 3/4” screws and flanged nuts to install the tailgate bracket (green) onto the corner support using the correct holes for your truck bed length.
- The nut must be on the bracket side. Position the DECKED tailgate bracket so that the arm is on the CAB SIDE of the truck tie-down loop; BAG PREP DR8/DR9. 5’7” bed (DR8) – Use the two holes closest to the tailgate. 6’4” bed (DR9) – Use the next two holes forward, towards the cab side.
- Place a nylon washer on a 1” screw.
- Place the bracket clamp (blue) on the loop. The short edges of the clamp should be on the top and bottom.
- Install 1” screw with washer through clamp plate, through tie down loop and into weld nut on the back side of the tailgate bracket. Tighten until snug. Repeat other side.
**DRAWERS: BRACKETS + WHEELS
**
(IT’S ALL BALL BEARINGS THESE DAYS)
- Each drawer has a left and a right corner bracket. Bolt the brackets into place via the bottom two holes in the bracket with 3/4″ length bolts. Use the 2″ length screws for the upper cab side wall hole in the bracket; BAG DRAWER 1.
- Install a tube brace in each drawer with two 3/4″ length screws; BAG DRAWER 1, BAG DRAWER 3.
- Attach wheels onto the drawer brackets with a 7/32″ hex wrench; BAG WHEELS.
INSTALL: DRAWER HANDLES
- OK, Grasshopper, one drawer handle assembly needs to be installed by you. We did the other one.
- Save yourself the headache, watch this short installation video: DECKED.com/videohandle.
- From the underside of the drawer, place the springs into the cavities on either side of the handle slots, red spring=right spring; BAG HANDLE. NOTE: Each spring arm should point inward, not outward.
- Install a clevis pin through each outside drawer hole and through the spring; BAG HANDLE.
- With the DECKED logo facing outward, insert the handle ends behind the spring arms. Rotate the arms of the handle toward the clevis pins, pulling the spring arm downward. When the handle hole is lined up with the clevis pin, push the pin through the handle hole and through the inside drawer hole. Repeat on the other side of the handle.
- Install a hairpin through the clevis pin; BAG HANDLE.
INSTALL: DRAWERS
-
Save yourself the headache, watch this short installation video: DECKED.com/videotailgatewheels.
-
Install the drawer by sliding wheels into their two channels (C-channel and center vert), and slide the drawer all the way forward until closed.
-
Install the remaining tailgate side wheels onto their axles; BAG WHEELS.
NOTE: Placing a spacer under the drawer to raise it into position makes this easier, like a small piece of 2×2 or 2×4. -
Install the weather strips on the tailgate side drawer edge: With the weatherstrip wiper facing cab side, line up one end with the side of the drawer and place on the top drawer edge, firmly pressing down on the weatherstrip as you move along the drawer edge.
NOTE: Facing the weather stripping the wrong way will funnel water into the drawer: BAD! -
When the weatherstrip is fully seated along the top edge, trim off any material that extends beyond the drawer edge with wire cutters. Watch out for the stainless wire coil inside; it’s sharp!
INSTALL: THE FUN STUFF
- Install nylon washers onto four .905” dog point screws.
- Slide torsion brace under center vert and tailgate corner support. Place the bottle opener on the outside of the torsion brace.
- Loosely install (start with your fingers to avoid cross-threading):
- Two 1/2” screws (with 3/8” hex heads) through upper holes in the bottle opener into the center vert – no washers needed; leave loose; BAG BOTTLE OPENER SCREWS (inside the PREP DR8/DR9 bag).
- Two .905” dog point screws with nylon washers through the end holes in torsion brace into tailgate corner supports; leave loose.
- Two .905” dog point screws with nylon washers through the bottom bottle opener holes and torsion brace into center vert; leave loose.
- Align bottle opener to edges of center vert and tighten four bottle opener screws.
- Tighten end screws into tailgate corner supports just until snug.
- You’ll have two extra .905” screws if you have a 5’7” bed.
INSTALL: SIDEBOARD AND RULER
- Identify the plastic, “L” shaped sideboard with the DRIVER sticker. The other sideboard will be used on the passenger side.
- Push the DRIVER sideboard forward until it touches the curbside wall.
- Push the vertical leg of the sideboard up against the truck bed wall (marked with a THIS SIDE UP sticker).
- Using the holes in the sideboard as a guide, install self-tapping, #3 Phillips head screws through the sideboard and into the DECKED panels; BAG PREP DR8/DR9.
- Repeat the process for the passenger side of the system.
-
- Install ruler by aligning the ruler holes with the inserts in the decks. Use your fingers to start the 1/4” screws to avoid cross-threading and leave loose until all screws have been started; BAG PREP DR8/DR9.
- Tighten just until snug with a 1/8” hex wrench.
- Insert lock core plugs, or install locks if purchased.
- Nice job. Your mother and I are very proud of you.
IMPORTANT: Grab your favorite beverage, crack ‘er open in the bottle
opener and make a toast to your magnificent truck. You did it. Immediately
post a photo of your significant other, child or canine (in no order of
significance) (please someone show us your pet alligator) appreciating your
accomplishment. Add hashtag #DECKEDUSA | @DECKEDUSA.
