Product Usage Instructions:

Getting Started:

The KidiGear™ Walkie Talkies Explorer is in try-me mode in the
packaging. To exit try-me mode, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Power Button to play the try-me demo.

  2. Press any button except the power button during the try-me
    demo.

  3. When you see the search icon, your KidiGear™ has exited try-me
    mode and entered normal play mode.

First Pairing:

To pair the Walkie Talkies:

  1. Put the two Walkie Talkies close together and turn them
    on.

  2. They will enter the pair-up setting ( ), press the OK Button on
    both units to connect.

  3. Once successfully connected, you will enter Walkie Talkie
    mode.

  4. The connected units will be automatically paired next
    time.

Battery Removal and Installation:

  1. Make sure the units are turned OFF.

  2. Locate the battery cover on the back of each unit, turn the
    battery lock anticlockwise and slide the cover off.

  3. If used batteries are present, remove them by pulling up on one
    end of each battery.

  4. Install 3 new AAA batteries into both Walkie Talkies following
    the diagram inside the battery compartment.

  5. Replace the battery cover and turn the battery lock
    clockwise.

Important Battery Information:

Batteries included are to be installed by an adult before giving
to children. Use new alkaline batteries for maximum
performance.

How do I dispose of old batteries?

Old batteries should not be disposed of in domestic waste. Look
for collection points near you or visit www.vtech.co.uk/recycle for
more information.

What age group is this product suitable for?

The KidiGear™ Walkie Talkies Explorer is recommended for

INTRODUCTION
Chat, send messages and play games with the VTech® KidiGearTM Walkie Talkies Explorer! The cool new design and built-in torch helps you light the way while going on your very own adventures. Keep in touch indoors and out, at home or on the go! These childsafe two-way walkie talkies feature an encrypted connection that keeps your child`s conversations secure, preventing other walkie talkie users from hearing. Have lots of fun trying the different voice changing effects! Little adventurers can also send messages back and forth by choosing from the fun built-in animations.

NOTE: Please save this Instruction Manual as it contains important information.
GETTING STARTED
The KidiGearTM Walkie Talkies Explorer is in try-me mode in the packaging. To exit try-me mode, press the Power Button to play the try-me demo, then press any button except power button during the try-me demo. When you see the search icon, it means that your KidiGearTM has exited try-me mode and entered normal play mode.
FIRST PAIRING
Put the two Walkie Talkies close together, turn them on and they will enter the pair up setting ( ), press the OK Button on both units to connect. Once they are successfully connected, you will enter Walkie Talkie mode. The two units that have been connected will be automatically connected next time. You can enter the set-up menu at any time by pressing the Games & Activities Button. Then, press the OK Button to enter the pair up setting.

BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Make sure the units are turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery cover on the back of each unit, turn the battery lock anticlockwise and slide the cover off.
3. If used or spent batteries are present, remove these batteries from the unit by pulling up on one end of each battery.
4. Install 3 new AAA (LR03/AM-4) batteries into both Walkie Talkies following the diagram inside the battery compartment. (The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance).
5. Replace the battery cover and turn the battery lock clockwise.

WARNING:
Adult Assembly required. Batteries included to be installed by adult before giving to children. Keep batteries out of reach from children.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION
· Insert batteries with the correct polarity (+ and -).

· Do not mix old and new batteries.

· Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable batteries.

· Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended

are to be used.

· Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.

· Remove batteries during long periods of non-use. · Remove exhausted batteries from the toy. · Dispose of batteries safely. Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES: · Remove rechargeable batteries (if removable) from toy before
charging. · Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult
supervision. · Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.
Disposal of batteries and product
The crossed-out wheelie bin symbols on products and batteries, or on their respective packaging, indicates they must not be disposed of in domestic waste as they contain substances that can be damaging to the environment and human health.
The chemical symbols Hg, Cd or Pb, where marked, indicate that the battery contains more than the specified value of mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) or lead (Pb) set out in the Batteries and Accumulators Regulation.
The solid bar indicates that the product was placed on the market after 13th August, 2005.
Please dispose of your product and batteries responsibly.
In the UK, give this toy a second life by disposing of it at a small electricals collection point so all of its materials can be recycled.

PRODUCT FEATURES

1. Power Button
Press the Power Button to power on the Walkie Talkie. Press the button again to power off the Walkie Talkie.
2. Push to Talk Button
Press and hold the Push to Talk Button in Walkie Talkie mode to transmit your voice to the other Walkie Talkie.
3. Games & Activities Button
Press the Games & Activities Button to enter the games, activities and set-up menu.

4. Walkie Talkie Button
Press the Walkie Talkie Button to enter Walkie Talkie mode.

5. Mailbox Button
Press the Mailbox Button to enter the Mailbox menu and choose an animated message or a wish to send to the other Walkie Talkie.

6. Torch Button
Press the Torch Button to turn on the LED light, press the Torch Button again to make the light flash. Pressing the Torch Button a third time turns off the light.

7. Left, Right, Up, Down and OK Buttons

Press the Left, Right, Up, Down or OK Buttons to make selections or to play games.

8. Volume Buttons
Press the Volume Buttons to adjust the volume.
9. Wrist Strap Slot
Insert a strap here (not included) to secure the KidiGearTM Walkie Talkies Explorer to your wrist.
10.Automatic Shut Off
To preserve battery life, the KidiGearTM Walkie Talkies Explorer will automatically turn off after approximately 10 minutes without input. Turn the Walkie Talkies on again by pressing the Power Button.
Press the Game & Activities Button to enter the games, activities and set-up menu. Enter the set-up menu and select the automatic shut off time. The shorter the automatic shut off time you set, the more power you save.

ACTIVITIES

1. Walkie Talkie Mode
Press the Left and Right Buttons to choose the normal voice or one of the three funny voice effects (bird, hippo or robot), then press and hold the Push to Talk Button to talk. Release the Push to Talk Button when you are not speaking. Speak closely to the microphone for the best performance.
Press the Up and Down Buttons to choose a sound, then press the OK Button to send the sound to the other Walkie Talkie.

2. Mailbox Mode
In this mode, you can send messages and view unread messages.
2.1 There are two activities in Mailbox Mode; send a pre-set card or send a wish.
a) Send pre-set message
Press the Left or Right Button to select one of the pre-set messages, and then press the OK Button to send. The other player will then receive your animated message.
b) Send a wish
Press the Left or Right Button to select a wish, then press the OK Button to send it. After the other player receives the wish, they can blow into their microphone or press the OK Button on their Walkie Talkie to open the wish.
2.2 After entering View Unread Message Mode, press the OK Button to read the latest message.

3. Games & Activities

In this mode, you can play games or change your settings. Press the Left or Right Button to scroll through the menu options and select a game or setting.

3.1 There are four two-player games and two one-player games.

If you select two-player mode, your Walkie Talkie will send an invitation to the other Walkie Talkie.

I) Insect Collector (one or two player game)

Press the Up or Down Buttons to move the net and rescue the requested insects. Collect as many requested insects as you can within the time limit to unlock more levels. Make sure to avoid any objects. In two-player mode, see how
many insects can be rescued together.

II) Catch The Water (one or two player game)

Press the Left or Right Button to move the bucket to collect the water drops. The more water droplets you collect the bigger the flower will grow. Collect as much water as you can in the time limit to unlock more levels. Control the bucket as well as avoiding the objects. In two-player mode, you can collect more water together and the plant will grow quicker.

III) Monster Creator (one or two player game)

In one-player mode, the program will randomly pick half of the monsters body, and you will pick the other half. When the time is up, both halves will be joined together to form your creation.

IV) Power Generator (one or two player game)

Blow into the microphone to spin the windmill and generate power. Check which objects can generate the most power within the time limit. In two-player mode, see if you can generate more power by working together.

V) Voice Changer (one player)

Press the Left or Right Buttons to choose the

normal voice or one of the three funny voice

effects (bird, hippo or robot), then press the OK

bar ends. The current character voice will play when you finish recording. You can press the Left or Right Buttons to play your
chosen characters voice.

VI) Card Creation (one player)

Design your own cards and send them to the other player.

Press the Left or Right Buttons to select the frame, object or stamp. Press the OK Button to confirm your selection. Press the 4 arrows buttons to move the object or stamp. Once the player has finished creating their card they can send it to the other player or save it for later. When you open a saved card, you can press the OK Button to select Send, Delete or Return to the menu.

Note: You can save up to three cards at a time. To create more cards, delete one of the three saved cards before creating a new card.

3.2 Settings

I) Pair Up

To pair up the two Walkie Talkies, turn on both of the Walkie Talkies and then press the Games & Activities Button to enter the settings menu. Choose `Pair Up’ from the menu screen. Before pairing up, place the two Walkie Talkies next to each other and press both OK Buttons at the same time to start pairing. After successfully finding each other, they will automatically connect.

II) Automatic Shut Off

Press the Up or Down Buttons to choose the Automatic Shut Off time, and press the OK Button to confirm.

III) Notification Press the Up or Down Buttons to choose a notification sound, and press the OK Button to confirm.

IV) Language

Press the Up or Down Buttons to choose a language, and press the OK Button to confirm.

4. Torch Mode
Press the Torch Button to turn on the LED light, press the Torch Button again to make the light flash. You can also press the Left or Right Buttons to choose between the normal or flashing light. You can only press the Torch Button to turn off the light when the light is flashing. Incoming Messages or Game Invitation
You can receive an incoming message and game invitation anytime the Walkie Talkies are on. You can receive a walkie talkie invitation during game play. Press the Left or Right Button to select, accept or reject. Then, press the OK Button to confirm. Note: If you receive an incoming message while you are playing a game, the star on the status bar will flash. You can check the message in the mailbox at anytime.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth. 2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and heat source. 3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended
period of time. 4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit
to moisture or water.

  • Your KidiGearTM will achieve the maximum operating range when communicating in flat open areas with no trees or buildings to obstruct the signal. Under these ideal conditions, you may achieve range up to 200m/650′ range. The following conditions tend to reduce the range:
    · One or both walkie talkies are being used indoors. · There are large obstructions such as buildings, trees, vehicles,
    hills, etc. between radios. · The batteries are running low.
    TROUBLESHOOTING
    If for some reason the Walkie Talkies stop working or lose connection, please follow these steps: 1. Please turn the unit OFF. 2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries. 3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries. 4. Turn the unit ON. The unit should now be ready to use again. 5. If the product still does not work, install a brand new set of
    batteries. If the problem persists, please contact our Consumer Services Department, and a service representative will be happy to help you.
