INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
-
Begin by placing the board underneath the front part of the frame to elevate it and making sure it’s evenly spaced / extending outward on each side. Next, move the height adjustment lever forward to the first position, which will expose the bracket / arm screw that needs to be removed.
-
Using the 3/4” and/or adjustable wrenches, remove the axle nut, then use the 7/16” wrench and the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the nut and screw holding the height adjustment arm to the bracket.
-
Once the adjustment arm is off, move it towards the back of the unit. Next, tap the axle bolt and use the screwdriver to help push it until it is sufficiently inside the housing enough to clear the frame.
-
The bracket and the washers will slide off, then move the wheel housing out from the frame so it can be pulled off the axle bolt – which can stay in the frame.
-
If needed, this is an opportunity to change the cutting height adjustment range by moving the axle to an alternate frame hole. On the current version of the RL20H series, the top set of holes are not used since the middle and lower holes provide the lowest and highest cutting heights. Move the axle to the lowest holes for a higher range or the middle holes for a lower range. Refer to the operating manual for details.
-
Before installing the front roller, check to make sure the roller’s axle housing has the nylon inserts on each end (if not, use the ones from the wheels just removed). Slide the housing onto the axle, pushing it all the way against the frame, then move it into position on the other side, align it with the frame hole and push (or lightly tap if needed) the axle bolt so it goes through the hole slightly – about 1/4″.
-
Place the 2 x washers on to the axle (against the frame) and move the height adjustment bracket in to position (aligning the hole with the axle), then continue pushing (tapping) the axle all the way through. Install the axle nut then move the height adjustment arm back into position and re-connect it to the bracket with the screw and nut. Tighten both the axle nut and height adjustment connection sufficiently (about 90-95%) so that the height adjustment movement (using the handle) is not too tight or too loose.
-
UPDATE: For the newer units (2022 and after), the new split-grooved roller update kit was added and at that time the roller shaft was updated to eliminate the right-side lock collar, the shaft is slightly longer, with the left end extending slightly past the height adjustment bracket. In addition to the set screw in the bracket, there’s a hole for a cotter or “R” type pin as a backup method of holding it in place.
