CARTON CONTENTS DIRECTAMP UNIVERSAL 9V POWER SUPPLY

The QUILTER DirectAmp provides everything needed to get a warm analog guitar tone when plugged directly into a console or workstation.

A complete electric guitar preamp channel, with rich chewy tube overdrive, is supplemented by a “virtual pedal” boost channel, which can be used as a clean or dirty boost.

Cabinet and speaker types can be combined for a wide range of final tones. Three classic amp types can be selected on the Clean channel.
Three Boost voices add more tonal variations.

Three active EQ controls provide wide range shaping of the guitar tone going into the final tube clipping section, and also process the sound of the distortion coming from the Boost channel.

The exclusive Quilter Limiter lets you control overdrive and sag, with a musically dynamic response for maximum milking of long notes.

The Reverb creates a rich cloud of ambience in the Stereo position, which also enables external mono-to-stereo effects to add width.

The built-in wireless receiver makes it easy to play along with tracks from the internet or your music library.

Four footswitches control their respective functions, and are mounted on a platform that keeps the foot above the knobs and switches.

The DirectAmp uses professional low-noise components, operates safely on 9V power, is packaged in a sturdy steel chassis, and should provide a lifetime of service.

Protect your amp from water and extreme heat.
Clean with a soft rag and avoid harsh solvents.

SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL PRECAUTIONS

The DirectAmp is powered by a low-voltage energy-limited 9V supply and is therefore free of shock hazard under normal use. To preserve product function and safety, please heed the following warnings.

POWER SOURCE

This product uses a standard 9V DC supply, in common with popular guitar pedals. The included supply operates safely from any world-wide AC voltage. Snap in the correct AC adaptor plug for your region. The supply provides up to 1000ma of power at 9V, Tip Negative. A standard pedalboard supply with at least 250ma capacity may also be used. Protect the DC cable from abrasion, excessive strain, or repeated flexing, to maintain intact insulation and avoid cable or plug failure.

GROUNDING AND HUM

Electric guitars often pick up hum, especially at high gain settings.
Normal guitar amps use a grounded 3-pin plug to reduce hum and buzz pickup. Typical 9V supplies are ungrounded, or “floating” in order to avoid conflicting grounds, which can cause ground-loop hum, especially at high gains. When used in a standard pedalboard, the DirectAmp operates from a floating supply and does not provide a system ground. Normally, the DirectAmp is connected to a grounded console or workstation which provides the final ground. When using the DirectAmp by itself with headphones, the lack of grounding may cause buzz pickup, especially on intermediate guitar volume settings. This can be solved by plugging at least one of the signal outputs into a grounded console, which needs to be plugged in to a grounded AC outlet, but does not need to be powered up.
Even with a grounded system, single-coil guitar pickups remain sensitive to AC fields in the playing environment. This type of hum often responds to changing guitar orientation or location in the room. Hum that persists even with guitar volume on zero may be caused by overloaded pedalboard supplies. Use the included power supply, or confirm that the DirectAmp is connected to a supply with at least 250ma unused capacity.

INTENDED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT

The DirectAmp is not unusually sensitive to temperature or humidity, but is intended to operate in a dry, comfortable environment. Protect the amp, guitar, and musician from extreme temperatures or wet conditions to assure best performance.

UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENTS

QUILTER DIRECTAMP CONTROLS

  1. SPKR TYPE SWITCH:
CL-80 selects a British style speaker with more nidrange focus.
V-30 selects a British style speaker with brighter treble response.
JENS selects a bright American style speaker with scooped mids.

  2. CAB TYPE SWITCH:
    CLOSED selects a deeper bass.
    OPEN selects a chestier bass.
SIM OFF defeats both switches to use external speaker models.

  3. OVERALL POWER SWITCH:
    Switch left for MONO.
    Switch right for STEREO.
Also provides power to the BLUETOOTH section.

  4. MASTER VOLUME CONTROL:
Regulates the overall volume of the entire mix without changing the relative level of AUX and GUITAR signals.
Set up the guitar sound you want with clean and overdrive levels, then adjust the Aux input to match the guitar volume.

  5. FX LOOP BYPASS:
Bypasses all effects used in the FX LOOP.

  6. REVERB AND FOOTSWITCH:
The reverb provides a lively spring-type sound voiced to sit nicely over the dry sound. The reverb provides a rich ambient effect when used in STEREO mode.

  7. ACTIVE 3-BAND EQ SECTION:
The EQ and AMP TYPE switch affect the sound of the guitar before reaching the tubetype master overdrive stage. This determines which guitar register reaches breakup first (high or low strings).
The EQ and AMP TYPE affect the sound after the BOOST channel, so you can set up an overdrive tone in BOOST and then EQ the breakup harmonics with the CLEAN channel settings.

  8. LIMITER FOOTSWITCH:
Engaging the LIMITER provides another way to go from clean to dirty, with musically interesting dynamic processing while using the limiting.

  9. CHANNEL FOOTSWITCH:
Switches between CLEAN and BOOST channels.
CLEAN ON has a green LED.
BOOST ON has a red LED.

  10. BOOST CHANNEL GAIN AND OUTPUT:
The signal begins to break up above about 30% BOOST, depending on Q-BOOST settings and your guitar volume.
To use a clean boost or alternate voice, set OUTPUT on full and use BOOST and the Q-BOOST switch to regulate the gain level.
For a distortion boost, set OUTPUT below 50%, and increase BOOST to get more overdrive. Use OUTPUT to balance the clean and dirty levels between channels.

  11. Q-BOOST SWITCH:
Three alternate voices are available for the BOOST channel.
FLAT only boosts the volume level.
BRT adds more chime for accents.
FAT adds upper mids for more overdrive.

  12. CLEAN CHANNEL GAIN AND LIMITER:
The signal is clean below 25% GAIN.
Signal begins to break up between 25% and 50%, depending on the AMP TYPE settings and your guitar volume. The range above 50% delivers rich tube-type overdrive, which can be tempered with the LIMITER control.

  13. AMP TYPE SWITCH:
JMP selects an aggressive British lead voice.
AC15 selects a smooth vintage voice
resembling the earliest period of amps.
FEND selects a scooped mid with silky highs.
These voices affect the overall sound of the CLEAN channel, including how it reproduces signals from the BOOST channel.
