Instructions for use and care

  1. When selecting and using lashing straps, the necessary lashing capacity, the type of use and the type of load to be lashed must be taken into account. The size, shape and weight of the load as well as the intended use, the transport environment and the type of load all determine the correct choice of strap. For reasons of stability, at least two lashing straps must be used for tying down and two pairs of lashing straps for diagonal lashing.

  2. The lashing strap selected must be both strong and long enough for the intended use and must be the correct length for the type of lashing. Good lashing practice must always be observed: the attaching and removing of the lashing straps must be planned before the start of the journey. Partial unloadings are to be taken into account for longer journeys. The number of lashing straps is calculated according to prEN 12195-1:1995.
    Only those lashing systems that are designed for lashing down that have STF on the label are to be used for lashing down.

  3. Due to different behaviours and changes in length under load, different lashing equipment (e.g. lashing chains and lashing straps made of chemical fibres) must not be used to lash the same load. When lashing and using additional lashing devices and fittings, ensure that these fit the lashing strap.

  4. When in use, the entire width of the flat hooks must lie in the base hook.

  5. Opening the lashing: before opening, make sure that the load will remain secure even without the lashing and that nothing will fall on the person unloading. If necessary, the slings intended for continued transport must be at-tached to the load beforehand to prevent the load from falling and/or tipping over. This also applies if you use tensioning elements to enable safe removal.

  6. Before starting to unload, the lashings must be loosened to the extent that the load is unsupported.

  7. During loading and unloading, pay attention to the proximity of any low-hanging overhead lines.

  8. The materials that lashing straps are made of have different levels of resistance to chemical influences. The manufacturer’s or supplier’s instructions must be followed if it is likely that the lashing straps will be exposed to chemicals. It should also be taken into account that the effects of chemical influence increase with increasing temperatures. The resistance of synthetic fibres to chemi-cal effects is summarised below:

    • Polyamides are resistant to the effects of alkalis. Howev-er, they are affected by mineral acids.
    • Polyester is resistant to mineral acids but is affected by alkalis.
    • Polypropylene is minimally affected by acids and alkalis and is suitable for applications where a high resistance to chemicals (apart from some organic solvents) is required.
    • Harmless acid or alkali solutions can become so con-centrated due to evaporation that they cause damage. Contaminated lashing straps are to be removed from service immediately, rinsed in cold water and air dried.
  9. Lashing straps in compliance with this part of the European Standard EN 12195 are suitable for use in the following temperature ranges:
    40°C to +120°C for polyester (PES).
    These temperature ranges can change depending on the chemical environment. In this case, consult the manufac-turer’s or supplier’s recommendations.
    A change in the ambient temperature during transport can affect the strength of the webbing. The lashing capacity is to be checked after entering warm regions.

  10. Lashing straps must be removed from service or returned to the manufacturer for repair if they show signs of damage. The following points should be regarded as signs of damage:

    • for webbing (that must be removed from service): tears, cuts, nicks and breaks in load-bearing fibres and seams, deformation due to effects of heat;
      for end fittings and tensioning elements: deformations, tears, strong signs of wear and corrosion.
      Only lashing straps that have identification labels can be repaired. In the event of accidental contact with chemi-cals, the lashing strap must be removed from service and the manufacturer or supplier must be contacted.
  11. Ensure that the lashing strap is not damaged by the edges of the load to which it is attached.
    A regular visual inspection before and after each use is recommended.

  12. Only legibly marked lashing straps with labels are to be used.

  13. Lashing straps must not be overloaded:
    The maximum hand force of
    50daN for Delta-Sport-Nr.: HG-14052;
    25daN for Delta-Sport-Nr.: HG-14053;
    (1daN ≈ 1kg) must be applied by one hand only. No mechanical aids like rods or levers etc. may be used unless they are part of the tensioning element.

  14. Knotted lashing straps must not be used.

  15. Damage to labels can be prevented by keeping them away from the edges of the load and, if possible, from the load itself.

  16. Webbing must be protected from friction and abrasion as well as damage from loads with sharp edges by using protective covers and/or edge protectors.

Use

(Fig. A/B)

**Putting on the lashing strap**

  1. Attach the hooks of the product to both sides.
  2. Guide the free end of the lashing strap (1a) through the lashing winch (1b) of the ratchet. Continue tightening the lashing strap further until it lies taut on the load.
  3. Secure the lashing strap by moving the ratchet handle (1c) up and down alternately until it is firmly locked.
  4. Close the ratchet completely.

Loosening the lashing strap

  1. Pull back the quick release (1d) and hold it firmly.
  2. Fold the ratchet handle (1c) back as far as it will go. The lashing winch (1b) in the ratchet can now be turned, thus releasing the lashing strap.
  3. Pull out the lashing strap (1a) using a little force.
  4. Close the ratchet again.

Storage, cleaning

  • When not in use, always store the product clean and dry at room temperature.

  • Only clean the product with a damp cloth and wipe dry afterwards.

  • Regular care and maintenance of the product will ensure the product is used safely and for a long time.

  • Clean the lashing strap with water and a mild detergent only and then wipe it dry with a cloth.

  • Grease the ratchet occasionally with a commercially availa-ble lubricant. When greasing, ensure that the parts that come into contact with the lashing strap are not lubricated. Check the ratchet regularly for rust and corrosion. Treat
    the affected areas with an oil cloth and contact a qualified specialist if necessary.

  • IMPORTANT! Never clean the product with harsh cleaning agents.
