Unpacking the Product
To begin using the LADEKABEL 5 M TYP 2, follow these steps:

Charging Process
To charge your electric vehicle using the LADEKABEL 5 M TYP 2, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your EV is parked close enough to the charging infrastructure.
  2. Remove the protective caps from both ends of the charging cable.
  3. Connect the Type 2 connector of the charging cable to the Type 2 connector on the charging infrastructure.
  4. Connect the Type 2 connector of the charging cable to the Type 2 connector on your vehicle.
  5. The charging process will begin automatically. Monitor the charging status on your vehicle’s display.

Ending the Charging Process
To end the charging process and disconnect the LADEKABEL 5 M TYP 2, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the charging process is complete.

Introduction

Congratulations on the purchase of your new CHARGING CABLE, hereafter referred to only as “the product”. You have chosen a high-quality product. The user manual forms an integral part of this product. It contains important information on safety, operation, and disposal. Prior to the operation of the product, familiarise yourself with the product and all operation and safety notes. For this purpose, carefully read the following operation instructions and safety notes. Only use the product as described and for the applications stated. Keep this manual in a safe place. If you hand the product on to third parties, all documentation must be passed on as well.

Intended use

  • This product is only suitable for charging electric or hybrid vehicles with alternating current/voltage (AC) at a designated charging infrastructure.
  • The product is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
  • The product may only be used on standard-compliant vehicles and infrastructure sockets. Do not use the product for any other purpose. The product is exclusively intended for domestic use. The product is not intended for commercial use.
  • The manufacturer accepts no liability for damages caused by improper use.

BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT, FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH ALL OF THE SAFETY INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE! WHEN PASSING THIS PRODUCT ON TO OTHERS, ALSO INCLUDE ALL THE DOCUMENTS!

In the case of damage resulting from non-compliance with these operating instructions, the warranty claim becomes invalid! No liability is accepted for consequential damage! In the case of material damage or personal injury caused by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions, no liability is accepted!

Children and persons with disabilities

DANGER! RISK OF LOSS OF LIFE OR ACCIDENT TO INFANTS AND CHILDREN!

  • Never leave children unsupervised with the packaging material. The packaging material represents a danger of suffocation. Children frequently underestimate the dangers. Always keep children away from the packaging material.
  • This product shall not be used by children. Keep the product out of reach of children.
  • This product can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the product in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  • Children shall not play with the product.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.

WARNING! Risk of electric shock!

  • Do not use adaptors or conversion adapters with the product. Do not use a cord extension set with the product (Fig. C).
  • Do not use the product while the vehicle’s motor is running.
  • Do not leave the product in the vehicle. The product could be irreparably damaged when outside temperatures are high. Store the product at a dry location with an ambient temperature between –35 °C and +50 °C.
  • Do not position the product in water or in places where water can collect.
  • During cleaning, do not immerse the product in water or other liquids. Never hold the product under running water.
  • Do not use any solvents or cleaning solutions on the product. Clean the product only with a slightly moistened cloth. The product shall not be covered:
    • while charging
    • whilst it is connected to the charging infrastructure
  • Remove the type 2 plug from the charging infrastructure and the vehicle:
    • if you are not using the product
    • if you are doing cleaning work
    • if the product is damaged
    • after the ingress of foreign objects or in the event of abnormal noises
    • before undertaking any maintenance works
  • Before connecting the product to the charging infrastructure, check that the voltage and current rating corresponds with the charging infrastructure details shown on the product’s rating label.
  • The type 2 plugs must fit into the socket of the vehicle/charging infrastructure. The type 2 plugs must not be modified in any way.
  • The product‘s maximum total output power/current (see following table) must never be exceeded.
  • Take special care when connecting vehicles that consume high amounts of power.
  • Do not connect the product in series.
  • Avoid switching maximum loads frequently on or off in order to sustain a long life for the product.

WARNING! Risk of radio interference!

  • Do not use the product on airplanes, in hospitals, service rooms, or near medical electronic systems. The wireless signals transmitted could impact the functionality of sensitive electronics.
  • Keep the product at least 20 cm from pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators, as electromagnetic radiation may impair the functionality of pacemakers. The radio waves transmitted could cause interference in hearing aids.
  • The OWIM GmbH & Co KG is not responsible for interference with radios or televisions due to unauthorized modification of the product. The OWIM GmbH & Co KG further assumes no liability for using or replacing cables and products not distributed by OWIM.
  • The user of the product is solely responsible for rectifying malfunctions caused by unauthorized changes to the product and the replacement of such modified products.

Electrical safety

  • Do not carry the product on the charging cable. Pull the type 2 plug to remove the product from the charging infrastructure or from the vehicle.
  • Protect the product from heat, oil and sharp edges.
  • Do not short-circuit the contacts on the type 2 plug.
  • Do not insert fingers or sharp objects into the plug contacts.
  • If the product is damaged, remove the type 2 plug immediately from the charging infrastructure/vehicle. A damaged product can lead to death or serious injuries. Before each use, check the product for damage (e.g. cracks). Do not use the product if it is damaged.

WARNING! Risk of fire and explosion!

Never use the product

  • near flammable liquids;
  • near flammable gases;
  • near potential explosives areas (e.g. paint shops)

The radio waves emitted can cause explosions and fire. Devices building up heat must be separated from the product to avoid accidental activation.

CAUTION! Risk of burns!

The product may heat up during operation. Do not touch the hot surfaces.

NOTICE! Risk of property damage!

  • Before setup or first use, check the product for any damage. Do not use the product unless in perfect working order.
  • Do not attempt to repair the product yourself. In case of malfunction, repairs are to be conducted by qualified personnel only.
  • Never use a damaged product. Disconnect the product from the charging infrastructure and contact our customer service if it is damaged.

First set-up of the product

Unpacking the product

INFO : Observe the user manual for the charging infrastructure (charging station) and the vehicle.

  1. Take the product out of the packaging and remove all packaging materials and plastic wrappings.
  2. Check to make sure that all listed parts are included (see “Scope of delivery”).
  3. Check whether the product and all parts are in good condition, if any damage or defect is detected, do not use the product, but follow the procedure described in chapter “Warranty”.

WARNING! Risk of electric shock!
Always connect the product to the vehicle before you connect the product to the charging station.

WARNING! Do not use a cord extension set with the product (Fig. D).

INFO :

  • The charging time depends on the following factors:
    • Vehicle battery capacity
    • Vehicle battery charging status
    • Charging infrastructure capacity
  • Monitor the charging process during charging:
    • via the vehicle dashboard
    • via the charging station display
  1. Switch off the engine of the vehicle.
  2. Unwind the charging cable [3].
  3. Open the charging port of the vehicle.
  4. Remove the cover cap [4] of the type 2 plug [5].
  5. Connect the type 2 plug [5] to the socket of the vehicle.
  6. Remove the cover cap [1] of the type 2 plug [2].
  7. Connect the type 2 plug [2] to the socket of the charging infrastructure.
  8. Start the charging process at the charging infrastructure. The type 2 plugs [2]/[5] can automatically be locked. The charging process begins.

Finishing the charging process

INFO :

  • Charging complete : The locking of the type 2 plugs [2]/[5] can automatically be released.
  • After charging : Wind up the charging cable [3]. Do not kink the charging cable.
  1. Disconnect the type 2 plug [5] from the socket of the vehicle.
  2. Close the charging port of the vehicle.
  3. Place the cover cap [4] on the type 2 plug [5].
  4. Disconnect the type 2 plug [2] from the socket of the charging infrastructure.
  5. Place the cover cap [1] on the type 2 plug [2].

Cleaning

WARNING! Risk of electric shock!

  1. Before cleaning the product: Disconnect the type 2 plugs [2]/[5] from the charging infrastructure/vehicle.
  2. Never immerse the product in water or any other liquid. Never hold the product under running water.
  3. Do not allow water or other liquids to get inside the product.

NOTICE! Risk of property damage!
Do not use abrasive, aggressive cleaning materials or hard brushes for cleaning.

  1. Clean the product with a slightly moistened cloth or a soft brush.
  2. After cleaning: Allow the product to dry completely.

Storage

  • Wind up the charging cable [3]. Do not kink the charging cable.
  • Store the product in a storage bag [6].
  • Store the product at a dry location out of the reach of children.

Disposal Packaging:
The packaging is made entirely of recyclable materials, which you may dispose of at local recycling facilities. Observe the marking of the packaging materials for waste separation, which are marked with abbreviations (a) and numbers (b) with the following meaning: 1–7: plastics/20–22: paper and fibreboard/80–98: composite materials.
