How your product works
Your humidifier works on the natural principle of evaporation. A fan passes
the dry indoor air through the humidifier filters, which are soaked with
water. The air thereby only absorbs as much moisture as it needs at the
current temperature.
Important safety instructions

Important information
With an evaporator, humidification can take a bit longer than it does when
using a nebuliser or vaporiser. So Karl / Karl big takes a while to achieve a
measurable humidification result. If you are operating the evaporator in a
very dry environment, we recommend that you operate the device on level 5
(hygrostat) and at least level 3 (humidification level) for the first few days
to allow the humidity to rise effectively.
Setting up/operation
-
Place Karl / Karl big in the desired location on a flat surface. Lift off the upper part (3) of the device to fill the lower part (4) with clean cold tap water up to the maximum mark (17) directly from the tap or use a clean watering can to fill the container via the opening for refilling (13). Caution: no water may enter the air outlet opening (14)! If you filled the lower part directly from the tap, put the upper part (3) back on the lower part (4), making sure that they fit together properly. Connect the power cable (1) to the power adapter connection (2) on the device first of all and then to a suitable socket outlet.
-
Start the appliance by pressing the On/Off button (5). The white LED should then light up. If a red lamp (11) lights up however, this indicates no water in the appliance.
-
You can use the hygrostat to set the desired air humidity. To do this, press on the button for the hygrostat (6). You can choose between the following levels: 40 % relative air humidity (1 white LED), 45 % (2 white LEDs), 50 % (3 white LEDs), 55 % (4 white LEDs), constant operation “CO” (5 white LEDs). If the LEDs are flashing, this indicates that the desired air humidity has already been reached. Please note that the hygrostat needs about 3 seconds to measure the current humidity in the room. The hygrostat will switch the device on again automatically as soon as the relative humidity in the room drops below the set value. We recommend that you set your room humidity to 45 – 60 % (comfort range).
-
Press the button for selecting the humidification level (7) to change the fan speed (levels 1–4). Pressing once increases the speed by one level. If you would like to increase the speed by another level, press again. The setting chosen is indicated by the number of LEDs illuminated underneath the humidification level button (7) (1 LED for level 1, 2 LEDs for level 2, 3 LEDs for level 3, 4 LEDs for Turbo). Level 2 is the default setting.
-
Press the auto mode button (8) to activate the auto mode. The LED be-low the auto mode button lights up. In auto mode, the appliance auto-matically maintains the desired humidity level. First, set the hygrostat
(6) to the desired humidity (40 / 45 / 50 or 55 %). The auto mode can not be activated when the hygrostat (6) is set to continuous operation (5 LEDs lit). The lower the current humidity, the higher the speed of the fan is set automatically. The closer the current humidity is to the desired value, the lower the speed level is selected (e.g. if desired humidity is 45 % and current humidity is below 34 %, level 3 is selected, from 35-40 % = level 2, from 41-45 % = Level 1). As soon as you press the button for changing the humidification level (7) (or the auto mode button (8) again), auto mode is deactivated. -
If you find the lamps too bright (in a bedroom for example), you can reduce the brightness of the LEDs by pressing the dimmer button (9). You can choose between three different modes:
• Normal mode (default mode)
• Dimmed mode (press once)
• Lights-out mode (press twice)
• By pressing the dimmer button once more, you can go back into normal mode.
If there is no water in the appliance, the red LED (11) lights up in all modes (normal and night mode). The red light can not be dimmed. -
Karl / Karl big has a reminder function for filter change. At first use timer will be set automatically. After a whole operating duration of 60 days the filters must be changed. In that case, the white LED underneath the button for the filter change reminder function (12) flashes. After changing the filters, press and hold the reset button (12) until the white filter LED is illuminated continuously again.
-
If you want to top up the water during operation, you can open the opening for refilling (13) on the top of the device by pressing on the opening. You can then refill the appliance using a water can or water bottle without having to switch it off. Caution: no water may enter the air outlet opening (14)! Pay attention to the illuminated midi (16) and maximum (17) marks when filling in order to reach your optimum water level. If the water container (4) is empty, the device switches off automatically and the LED (11) lights up red.
-
Press the Wi-Fi button (10) to connect Karl / Karl big to the “Stadler Form” App or the “Smart Life – Smart Living“ App from Tuya Inc. (available in the App Store and via Google Play) on your smartphone. If the device is in pairing mode, the LED underneath the Wi-Fi button (10) flashes. If the LED underneath the Wi-Fi button is illuminated continuously, this indicates that there is an existing connection between Karl / Karl big and your smartphone. You can control all the functions of the appliance via the app and monitor the air quality in real time, even when you are not at home. More detailed information on connecting the device to your smartphone can be found in the enclosed “Wi-Fi – Quick Setup Guide” or on our website: www.stadlerform.com/connect.
Cleaning
Prior to any maintenance, cleaning and after each use, turn off the unit and remove the plug from the plug socket. Before you clean Karl / Karl big, the power adapter (1) must be separated from the power adapter connection (2). Attention: Never submerge the appliance in water (danger of short-circuit). For hygienic reasons and to ensure proper operation, we recommend the fol- lowing cleaning intervals.
- Daily : Fill the appliance with fresh, cold tap water. If the appliance is not used for several days, empty the water from the lower part (4) beforehand and if necessary, clean it with a bit of dish detergent and a clean cloth. Fill fresh water into the lower part (4) before putting the appliance back into operation.
- Every 2 weeks: First remove the filters (15) and the Water Cube™ (18). Clean the inside of the lower part (4) thoroughly every 2 weeks with a bit of dish detergent, warm water and a soft, clean cloth, sponge or brush. Then rinse the lower part (4) thoroughly with cold water and put the filters and the Water Cube back in.
- Approx. every 4 weeks (depending on the hardness of the water): First remove the filters (15) and the Water Cube™ (18). In the case of limescale deposits on the inside of the lower part (4), we recommend using the Stadler Form Cleaner & Descaler (www.stadlerform.com/accessories). Alternatively, you can use a household decalcifier or vinegar. Then rinse the lower part (4) thoroughly with cold water and put the filters and the Water Cube back in. For hygienic reasons, the filters (15) must be replaced every 2–3 months. Textile cover: Over time, dust will collect on the textile cover. You can remove this using the soft brush attachment for your vacuum cleaner.
- Regularly as required: For external cleaning, rub with a damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. The textile cover (19) can be taken off the housing. The textile cover (19) can be washed at 30° Celsius („cold wash“) on a gentle cycle. Make sure that the textile cover (19) is completely dry before attaching it to the device again. Put the textile cover (19) back on the de-vice from the top so that the logo ends up in the front bottom right-hand corner (see the image on page 5/6). This will enable the textile cover (19) to be put back correctly on the device.
- At the end of the season: Before storing the appliance at the end of the season, clean it inside and out thoroughly and let it dry completely. Descale the lower part (4) as described above. Clean the fan wheel in the upper part (3) using the soft brush attachment for your vacuum cleaner. Wash the textile cover (19) as described above. Insert new humidifier fil-ters (15) and a new Water Cube (18) in order for your appliance to be ready for the start of the next season.
Replacement of the humidifier filters
For hygienic and optimum operation of the air humidifier, the filters must
be replaced every 2 – 3 months. If the filters remain in use for longer than
this, on the one hand the humidity output may decline severely and on the
other, the antimicrobial action of the filters can no longer be guaranteed.
The humidifier filters can be obtained from the dealer where you purchased
your Karl / Karl big. Note: The devices are compatible with the Oskar Filter
Pack.
Water Cube™ – optimal hygiene for your air humidifier
The Water Cube™ (18) by Stadler Form provides optimal hygiene in your air
humidifier. It keeps your humidifier running smoothly, extending its lifespan.
The Water Cube™ (18) even works when your appliance is switched off, so the
humidifier stays fresh all season long. We recommend replacing the Water Cube™
at the start of the humidifier season.
Repairs
- Repairs to electrical appliances must only be carried out by a qualified electrical technician. If improper repairs are carried out, the warranty lapses and all liability is refused.
- Never operate the appliance if the adaptor or plug is damaged, after it has malfunctioned, if it has been dropped or has been damaged in any other way (cracks/breaks in the casing).
- Do not push any object into the appliance.
- If the appliance is beyond repair, make it unusable immediately by cutting through the cable and hand it in at the collection point provided for the purpose.
- In the event of a repair, the following points must be observed before the appliance is shipped or taken to the dealer: completely empty the water in the appliance (water tray and any water tank), remove any filters and/or anti-limescale cartridges and allow the appliance to dry completely. Appliances containing residual water may be damaged during transport, invalidating the warranty
Disposal
The European directive 2012 / 19 / CE on Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment (WEEE), requires that old household electrical appliances must not
be disposed in the normal unsorted municipal waste stream. Old appliances must
be collected separately in order to optimize the recovery and recycling of the
materials they contain and reduce the impact on human health and the
environment. The crossed out “wheeled bin” symbol on the product reminds you
of your obligation, that when you dispose of the appliance it must be
separately collected. Consumers should contact their local authority or
retailer for information concerning the correct disposal of their old
appliance.
