LASER 8145 Floating Brake Disc Hydraulic Press Kit

Product Specifications

  • Part No.: 8145
  • Product: Floating Brake Disc Hydraulic Press Kit for HGV

Product Information

  • The Floating Brake Disc Hydraulic Press Kit is designed for heavy goods vehicles (HGV) and is used for brake disc maintenance and repair.
  • The kit includes hydraulic pump inlet, dust cap for inlet, LH and RH ram control valves, hydraulic hoses (1m each), LH and RH ram connectors, and high-load short rams.

Product Usage Instructions

Assembly:
Assemble the components in the following order:

  • A – Hydraulic pump inlet
  • B – Dust cap for inlet
  • C – LH ram control valve
  • D – RH ram control valve
  • E – Hydraulic hoses (1m each)
  • F – LH ram connector
  • G – RH ram connector
  • H – High-load short rams

Operation:
Follow OEM-derived data or vehicle manufacturers’ own data for guidance on using the tool.

Precautions:

  1. Ensure all connections are tightened securely with proper tools to prevent leaks.
  2. When storing the kit in its carry case with hoses attached, prevent damage to the hydraulic couplings on the rams.

FAQ

  • Can I use this kit for all types of HGVs?
The kit is designed for general HGV brake disc maintenance; however, it is recommended to refer to specific vehicle data for compatibility.

  • How often should I check the hydraulic hoses for wear and tear?
Regularly inspect the hydraulic hoses for any signs of damage or wear and replace them if necessary to ensure safe operation.

Introduction

  • The Laser 8145 Floating Brake Disc Hydraulic Press Kit allows the operator to quickly and easily push off the floating brake discs found on many modern HGV and commercial vehicles. The high-load short rams are designed to sit between the disc and the back of the hub allowing hydraulic force to be applied to push off the disc. The unit is equipped with two control valves (one per ram) to allow the pressure to be applied to either both rams together or one at a time, allowing a useful “rocking” action. Hub/disc unit must be removed from axle before disc removal operation can be carried out. Also suitable for pushing off stuck wheels where access permits.
  • Applications include DAF, Renault and Volvo commercial vehicles. Hydraulic rams rated at 14 tonne, fitted with 1 metre hydraulic hoses. Designed to be operated by the Laser 7861 hydraulic hand pump or the Laser 7862 air-powered hydraulic pump.
  • The following instructions are for guidance only. Please refer to OEM derived data such as the vehicle manufacturers’ own data or Autodata.
  • The use of this tool is purely down to the user’s discretion and The Tool Connection Ltd. cannot be held responsible for any damage caused what so ever.

Care points:

  • Refer to Figure 4: Align the rams on two parallel flat surfaces – it may be necessary to remove any high spots on the disc to prevent damaging the ram body or piston.

  • Refer to Figure 4: When pressure is initially applied, use a hammer to shock the disc and help release the corrosion and ease removal — take care to not hit the rams or hydraulic lines.

  • Do not overload the rams – the 8145 rams are rated at 14 tonnes each.

  • Only use the 8145 rams as indicated in these instructions.

  • Do not carry the rams by the hoses or their couplings.

  • When storing the 8145 in its carry case with the hoses attached, please ensure they do not damage the hydraulic couplings on the rams.

  • Refer to Figure 6: Periodically check the tightness of the coupling adaptors on the rams. This is done by removing the hose, push the threaded cap on the ram coupling toward the ram to uncover two flats that a spanner can be used on to tighten the coupling into the ram.

Precautions

  • Always read these instructions carefully before using the tool.
  • Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s documentation for the correct procedure.
  • Wear eye protection and protective gloves.
  • Visually inspect all equipment before use for signs of damage or wear and tear. Any defective or suspect equipment should be repaired or replaced before use.
  • High-pressure hydraulic equipment can work at extremely high pressure, and careful attention should be paid to working pressures.
  • Before operating the pump all hose, air line (if used) and hydraulic connections must be tightened with proper tools. Do not over-tighten, but connections should be tightened securely and leak-free.
  • DO NOT rely on the pump valve for positive load holding. If it is required to lock the load in position use mechanical means.
  • Never attempt to disconnect couplings while under system pressure.
  • Regularly inspect and keep the high-pressure hydraulic oil lines in good condition.
  • Do not use the pump if there is any evidence of damage to the high-pressure hydraulic oil lines.
  • Keep the high-pressure oil lines away from sources of heat.
  • Avoid sharp bends and kinks when routing the hydraulic oil lines.
  • Keep the tool clean and well-maintained. Store in case when not in use — when storing the 8145 in its carry case with the hoses attached, please ensure they do not damage the hydraulic couplings on the rams.
