Product Usage Instructions
Setting Up FortiSwitch 108F Series
- Connect the power adapter to the designated power input on the rear panel of the device.
- Connect your network devices to the appropriate ports on the front panel based on your requirements.
- If using POE, ensure that the connected devices are compatible with the POE standard supported by the switch.
- If needed, use the console cable to establish a management connection.
LED Indicators on Front Panel
- POWER LED:
- Green: Power is on
- Off: Power is off
- PORTS LED:
- Green: Connected at 1Gbps
- Amber: Connected at 100Mbps
- Off: No link established

Basic Connections
For Model FS-108F
For Models FS-108F-POE, FS-108F-POE
Plug in your device to a power outlet using the provided power cables.
Note: We recommend connecting your FortiSwitch to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in case of a power outage
Desktop Option
- Place the unit on a flat, clean and stable surface
- Ensure there is at least 1.5in of clearance for adequate airflow
- Plug the provided power cables into the rear of the unit and then into a grounded electrical outlet or separate power source
Rack Mount (FS-108F-POE and FS-108F-FPOE only)
Note: The recommended clearance is 1.5 inches above and below the device.
Caution: To avoid personal injury or damage to the device, it is
recommended that two or more people mount the device on a rack.
1Gbps SFP Transceivers
To install 1G SFP transceivers
- Slide the 1G SFP into the cage socket until it clicks into place
- Lift the latch to lock the 1G SFP
- Connect the fiber optic cabling to the 1G SFP
To remove the 1G SFP transceivers:
- Lower the latch to unlock the 1G SFP
- Carefully pull the 1G SFP out of the cage socket
Setup Options
GUI
- Connect port 1 to the Management Computer using the supplied Ethernet cable
- Enable DHCP or set the Management Computer’s IP and subnet to:
- Static IP Address: 192.168.1.1
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Visit https://192.168.1.99 in a web browser
- Log in with the username admin and no password
- You can now configure your FortiSwitch
Note: After you log in for the first time, you will be prompted to set a new password
CLI
- Connect the Console Port with a Console Cable to the USB Port on the Management Computer
- Start a terminal program on the Management Computer and select an available COM Port using the following default settings:
- Baud rate: 115200
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: None
- Log in using username admin and no password
- You can now configure your FortiSwitch
Note: After you log in for the first time, you will be prompted to set a new password
FortiLink
- Login to the FortiGate and go to WiFi & Switch Controller -> FortiLink Interface
- Add a FortiGate Port in the FortiLink interface
- When the device is discovered, select Authorize
Optional: To automatically authorize the device upon discovery, enable “Automatically authorize devices” in the FortiLink Interface settings
Cloud Management (Connect a port to the Internet)
- Visit support.fortinet.com to register your device and cloud management license
- Sign in at https://fortilan.forticloud.com to manage your Inventory List

Elevated Operating Ambient – If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient.

Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.

Reduced Air Flow – Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.

Mechanical Loading – Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.

Circuit Overloading – Consideration should be given to the connection of
the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern. -
Reliable Earthin g – Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips).
Safety
Battery – Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. They may explode. Dispose of used
batteries according to your local regulations.
CAUTION:
There is a danger of explosion if a battery is incorrect replaced. Replace
only with the same or equivalent type.
Dispose batteries of according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Disposing a battery into fire, a hot oven, mechanically crushing, or cutting
it can result in an explosion.
Leaving a battery in an extremely hot environment can result in leakage of
flammable liquid, gas, or an explosion.
If a battery is subjected to extremely low air pressure, it may result in
leakage of flammable liquid, gas, or an explosion.
Caution: This equipment is to be used in a Network Environment 0 per
IECTR 62101. This product is connected only to PoE networks without routing to
the outside plant.
