Quick start guide
Airflow cones are essential instruments for direct measurement of airflow
ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Si-K25, Si-K85 cones can be used
with the Kimo Ø 100 mm vane anemometers; K35, K75, K120, K150 cones with the
Kimo Ø 8 mm hotwire anemometers from Class 110, 210 and 310 portable
instruments.
Si-K25, Si-K85 air flow cones with Ø 100 mm vane anemometers
Measurement principle
The Kimo Si-K25 and Si-K85 cones have a built-in honeycomb airflow
straightener that reduces turbulence and enables more accurate airflow
measurements. They are designed for accurate measurements of both straight and
turbulent airflow on all major ventilation grilles and plate outlets,
including multidirectional ones.
These cones feature a compact unibody design with no parts to assemble, making them easy to handle, especially in tight spaces.
Put the Ø 100 mm vane probe on the cone
- Open lever and put the vane probe on the end of the cone.
- Put the vane probe at the bottom of the slot and close the lever.
- For a measure in exhaust, put the vane with the arrow turned towards the inside of the cone.
- For a measure in supply, put the vane with the arrow turned towards the outside of the cone.
Put the cone on the air vent
Hold the cone by the cone handle. Do not hold the assembly by the vane probe handle.
- Position the cone against the wall (the support).
- Centre the cone for best results.
- Make sure the cone is tight against the wall.
Do not pull on the probe handle when removing the Ø 100 mm vane probe from the cone.
Airflow measurement
Refer to the user manual of the handheld anemometer used, in particular the section on display and flow measurement.
Storage
During storage, the lever dedicated to holding the vane probe should be closed to reduce the risk of damage during storage or transport. Storage temperature: -20 to 60 °C.
K35, K75, K120, K150 air flow cones with Ø 8 mm hotwire anemometers
Measurement principle
The direction and the homogeneity of the incoming and outcoming air flow are
often disrupted by the geometry of the HVAC grilles. Therefore, it is
necessary to funnel the flow to the probe’s sensor.
The probe and its sensing element are located in a well known section of the
cone which guarantees a correct measurement.
1. Put the Ø 8 mm hotwire probe on the cone
- Slide the hotwire anemometer probe red protection towards the bottom of the probe.
- Clip the probe into the slide on top of the cone’s handle.
- Remember to slide the protection back on the sensing element.
Red point at the bottom of the hot wire probe must face airflow.
