Cox Contour Streaming Antenna User Manual
Installation steps
NOTE
This setup is for any HD television and set-top box combination that uses an
HDMI connection. Setups that use a component or composite connection will also
work with these instructions.
-
Connect the antenna’s coax cable to the TV’s “antenna/cable in” port.
Note: it may be called “ant in”, “ant/cable”, or something else depending on your TV manufacturer. -
Verify there’s an HDMI connection between the set-top box and the TV. Do not remove it unless it’s attached to the “antenna/cable in” port.
-
Change the source on your TV to “antenna” using the source input button on your TV remote.
Note: it may be called “TV” or something else similar, so test it to verify. -
Once your antenna is connected to your TV and you’ve changed to the correct source, you’ll need to run a TV channel scan. Your TV’s user guide will provide details on how to do this.
Contour Stream Player with an antenna vs. cable
An antenna is an option that allows you to watch local channels broadcast over the air. That said, it’s subject to a variety of factors that can make the signal strength and picture quality unreliable. With Cox Cable TV service you don’t have to worry about signal loss from things like geography and weather. Visit your local Retail Store to learn more about our cable TV packages and open up a world of channels.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Do I have to set up the Antenna outside?
No, it’s designed for indoor use only, so don’t place the antenna outside. It
should be connected directly to your TV or set-top box.
How does an antenna work?
The antenna picks up the over-the-air signal from the local television station
and amplifies it, so the TV can receive it. Then the TV converts it to audio
and video to display for the viewer.
Will this antenna work for every TV?
These antennas work for TVs manufactured after 2007. The antenna that we
provide will only work if the TV has an HDMI, component, or composite
connection for the set-top box. TVs manufactured before 2007 may require an
adapter to convert the digital signal to analog. This adapter would need to be
purchased separately. Consult your TV’s user guide for more information.
The “ANTENNA/CABLE IN” source/input option isn’t available on my TV.
There’s already a different coax cable connected to it. What should I do?
Check to see if your TV has an HDMI, component, or composite input. If so,
remove the coax cable that’s connected to your set-top box and the TV. Then
reconnect it using the selected input – HDMI, component, or composite. Once
this is complete, the “ANTENNA/CABLE IN” source should come up as an option
for you to connect to. If your TV does not have an HDMI, component, or
composite input then you won’t be able to have both the antenna and set-top
box connected to your TV at the same time.
I’ve heard that signal quality can differ based on a home’s location. How
can I tell if my home will be able to receive the on-air channels?
You can check the signal strength of your location at
www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps.
Sometimes signals can be obstructed. If you’re receiving the on-air
channel(s), but the picture comes in intermittently, try adjusting the
antenna. Also, make sure that your antenna is properly connected to the TV.
After you have confirmed antenna connectivity, re-run the TV channel scan. If
this doesn’t work, we suggest you contact your TV manufacturer for assistance.
What if I want to watch cable or broadcast channels without switching
inputs?
Subscribing to Cox cable TV will provide the channels through the set-top box,
instead of an antenna. Your CSP and antenna do not provide cable or broadcast
channels. Visit your local Cox Retail Store to learn more.
What if I am having issues installing or receiving channels?
Troubleshooting over the phone/installation support is not provided. Your
local Cox Retail Store can only support basic questions and are unable to
troubleshoot in-store. For help, please use the information provided here and
your TV manual.
