Electric Trike Bike Assembly & Charging
Assembly of an electric Trike Bike is, in most cases, much easier than a normal pedal trike. The reason is a lot of the sub-assemblies, cables etc. are already in place and connected. This will save you a lot of time during the assembly, but you must still refer to the printed assembly instructions, the assembly video on our website and these printed instructions for the assembly of your electric Trike Bike.
Even though your electric Trike Bike is a little different than a normal pedal trike there are only 3 small differences for the assembly, and these are….
- Fitting the front basket is different on the electric model to the standard models
- Connecting the front electric motor on the front wheel to the wiring harness
- Connecting the brake cut out cables and the handlebar control cable near the handlebar
The front basket mounting bracket on an electric Trike Bike is completely different to the standard pedal trike. The reason for this difference is the electric Trike Bike is normally ridden at faster speeds than a pedal trike, so we equip the electric Trike Bike with front fork suspension. This enables you to go faster over rough ground without the jolts through the handlebars that you would get if there was no front suspension fitted.
Because the front suspension moves up and down approximately 50 mm this means that the standard trike-bike front basket bracket will not work so we need to supply a modified front bracket assembly which is not affected by movements of the front forks.
The picture to the left shows the basket mounting on the Electric Trike Bike. The basket bracket mounts to the top of the forks as shown.
⇐Picture of electric trike front wheel, forks, and basket.
The electric motor in the front wheel is connected to the wiring harness by a simple waterproof push in plug. If you look at the front wheel you will see a cable coming out of the right-hand side of the hub with a plug fitted, this plug must be connected to the main wiring harness.
The main wiring harness comes out the right-handside of the frame and is normally loosely cable tied to the right-hand fork area.
If the cable on the frame seems too short, please undo the black plastic spiral tape. This allows you to pull the cable carefully further through the frame, then reapply the black spiral tape and you should now be able to connect the two cables with ease.
It is critical to align the arrows as you see in the photograph above and then push the 2 plugs together as far as possible or until they meet the line shown on the smaller plug.
When aligned in this position you know that everything is connected correctly, has been pushed in far enough and is water resistant.
There are 3 MINI B cable connectors as shown on the left, which need to be connected when the handlebars are attached to the frame, these wires can only be inserted one way, so please make sure you line everything up correctly by aligning the cutout and then pushing together.
The wires are colour-coded so the black connector goes into the other black connector and the red connectors connect to the other red connectors.
Note: there are 2 red connectors on each harness and it does not matter which way these are connected.

Electric Trike Bike Charging
Check the battery: Turn the key on the battery to the ON position
then push the button on top of the battery.
Fully charged Shows, One Red and two Green lights.
Half charged Shows, One Red and one Green light.
Empty Shows, One Red light.
The battery can stay on the Trike Bike, or the battery can be removed and taken to a more convenient location for recharging.
To recharge the battery:
-
Make sure the bike is nowhere where it can get wet during recharging.
-
Turn the key on the battery to the OFF position as shown in the photograph immediately right.
The charging port is on the side of the battery near the top and is covered by a plastic cover which can be swung in either direction to expose the plug location where the charging cord plugs in to recharge the battery, see two pictures below.
-
Align the charging plug with the plug receptacle and push the charger plug firmly in place. It should go approximately 5 to 8 mm into the battery. See the two pictures below.
-
Then connect the charger power supply to a normal 240-volt outlet in the wall.
All chargers have a small translucent window with a LED light. When the battery starts charging the light will glow red. When the battery has completed charging the light will glow green
-
When the charger shows a green light (above), the battery is fully charged, and you may disconnect all plugs. If you wish to be sure the battery has been charged, we refer back to the Check the battery procedure at the top the previous page. Or look on the handlebars of the Trike Bike with everything turned on to see the displayed battery capacity. (right)
