  1. Prep vehicle for shock tower install.
    a. Disconnect the battery’s positive and negative terminals.
    b. Raise the vehicle and secure it safely on stands.
    c. Remove the rear wheels.
    d. Remove the OEM shocks.
    e. Cut off the factory rear shock mounts on the chassis and axle.
    f. Prepare the surface of the chassis and axle for welding new mounts.

  2. Mockup shock tower.
    a. Position the shock tower onto the chassis using a bolt, aligning the hole on the lower corner of the shock tower with the corresponding hole on the chassis as illustrated.
    b. Tack weld the shock tower in place.
    c. Loosely install the shock to the shock tower.
    d. Tack weld the lower shock tabs to the axle. Cover the shock shaft to protect it from weld splatter.
    e. Mount the shock reservoir onto its bracket and position it on the chassis.
    f. Mark the contact areas on the chassis prepare the surface for welding. Tack the mount in place.
    g. Repeat the previous steps to the other side of the vehicle. Cycle the suspension to ensure all clearances are adequate. Shocks should be parallel to one another.
    h. Remove the shocks and reservoirs to prepare for final welding.
    NOTE: Always place the welding ground close to the area being welded. DK-811864 Shock Relocation kit is designed to use 12” shocks.

  3. Weld shock tower to chassis.
    a. Start by welding the keyway slots that are circled in red on the illustration. Proceed to weld the perimeter of the shock towers to the chassis.
    b. Weld the shock reservoir brackets to chassis.
    c. Weld the lower shock tabs to the axle. Weld the inside of the tabs first, then weld the outside of the tabs. Allow the axle to cool between welds.
    Use the spacer included in your kit to keep the correct spread during welding. Weld the provided gussets to the lower shock tabs for added strength.

  4. Install shock.
    a. Remove welding slag in preparation for paint.
    b. Mask and paint all bare metal areas.
    c. Allow paint to fully cure.
    d. Install shocks and reservoirs.
    e. Torque upper and lower shock mounting hardware to 90ft lbs.

  5. Review your work.
    a. Confirm everything is installed correctly. Ensure the shock reservoir hose is not contacting the chassis or shock tower.
    b. Install wheels and lower vehicle. Torque lug nuts to your manufacturer’s specs.
