Installation Guide
This guide outlines basic installation suggestions of ADS PolyFlex pressure pipe. Installation with proper connections, handling, trenching, testing and backfill is essential to achieve a long-term system performance. All installations must comply with local, state and federal regulations.
Cutting the Pipe
Use a fine tooth saw or pipe cutter and assure the pipe is cut square. Use abrasive paper or a knife to remove all burrs for proper insertion of fittings or appliances.
Clean Pipe and Fittings
Use a clean, dry cloth to remove any debris from the pipe surface and fitting to be joined.
Make Connection
For IPS Utility Grade, Standard Grade or NSF Rated Pipe, use insert fittings to make any connections. Once the fitting is fully seated into the pipe, pipe clamps should be tightened around the pipe to secure the fitting. Review the fitting manufacturer’s installation guide to ensure proper fit. Only use properly sized compression fittings designated for use with CTS pipe. For CTS and IPS, reference the fitting manufacturer’s instructions. Installation processes may vary.
Pipe Handling and Installation
Before any excavation work is performed be sure to check for utility and service lines near the project site.
Storing: Pipe should be stored as to support the pipe’s full length and protect the pipe from sharp objects that could impact the pipe’s integrity.
Handling and Transportation
Plastic pipe should not be subjected to rough handling or abuse as it is susceptible to damage by abrasion and gouging. Practices of dragging the pipe should be avoided. The pipe should be transported and supported so as not to cause undue strain or damage during transportation. Damaged portions of pipe should be cut out and replaced.
Trenching & Backfill
Reference local guidelines and requirements concerning pipe depth for installation applicable to service designation. The trench width should be wide enough to allow for snaking, if necessary, and the trench bottom should be flat, smooth and free of rocks. It is advisable to pad the trench with sand or compacted fine soils.
Installation
Installation is similar to other pipe products; methods include direct bury, plowing or pulling. Reference local guidelines and requirements per the application.
Testing
Reference local code concerning testing perimeters and requirements.
Final Hook-Up
The line should be flushed free of sand, dirt or other foreign material that may have entered the pipe during installation. The line should be equipped with a pressure regulator to protect it from working pressures and surges that would exceed the recommended working pressures of the piping system. Reference local guidelines concerning disinfecting requirements prior to finalizing the installation.
