Instructions towbar mounted bicycle holder

  • Maximum load: 60 kg (ball pressure load).
  • Its weight: 20 kg.
  • Maximum weight per bicycle: 25 kg.
  • The vehicle driver has the sole responsibility for the product being free from defects and securely fastened.
  • Before a journey, the function of the lighting unit lights must be checked.
  • Do not leave any loose items on the bicycles during transportation.
  • Check that the straps and other mountings are secure and post tighten as necessary.
  • The length of the car increases when the bicycle holder is installed. The bicycles can add to the width and height of the car. Take care when reversing.
  • Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.
  • The bicycle holder must always be locked during a journey.
  • The driving characteristics of the car may differ when driving round corners and under braking when the product is installed.
  • Always follow applicable speed limits and other traffic laws.
  • The speed must be adjusted to the prevailing conditions, but must never exceed 130 km/h.
  • Tandem bicycles must not be transported.
  • Volvo takes no responsibility for personal injuries and/or damage to property and consequential financial losses, caused by incorrect mounting or use.
  • The product must not be modified.

Preparations

Installation Instructions

  1. Unscrew the knob to prepare the installation of the frame holder on the support bar.
  2. Tighten the frame holder to slacken off the mounting. Pressing the clamp together tightly can help.
  3. Clamp the mounting around the support bar, and release the spring.

NOTE

  • The spring in the frame holder has high sprung resistance, so mind your fingers.

  • Undo the mountings. Use a screwdriver if necessary.

  • Install the registration plate on the bicycle holder and secure the plate with the mountings.

  • Fold the tensioner arm up.

  • Wipe the towbar clean.

  • Install the bicycle holder on the towbar.

  • Turn the resistance knob until a click is heard.

  • Fold the tensioner arm down completely.

  • Lock the bicycle holder.

NOTE: There must be a distance of at least 65 mm between the bumper and the centre of the towing ball. Take care not to damage the bumper.

Transportation

  • Install the bicycle(s) on the bicycle holder. Overlap the bicycles if more than one are to be loaded on the bicycle holder, with the heaviest bicycle innermost.
  • Check that the handlebar of the innermost bicycle does not lie against the tailgate of the car. If necessary, slacken off the handlebars and turn them or move the bicycle out one position.

NOTE: Remember that the exhaust gases from the car are hot and can affect the bicycle holder or its load. This especially applies to plastic parts. If necessary, you should route the exhaust gases away from the bicycle holder.

  • Connect the electrical socket in the car and tighten the contact.
  • In order to open the tailgate on five doors cars, the bicycle holder can be angled backwards.
  • Depress the pedal and pull the bicycle holder towards you.
  • Open the tailgate.

NOTE

  • If the car has a 7-pin electrical socket, an adapter is needed.

  • Fold the bicycle holder until it locks with a clear click.

  • Check that the bicycle holder is properly locked in the folded up position.

Storing

  • Fasten the frame carriers to each other as shown. The entire bow can be lifted away with the frame carriers to make the bicycle holder more compact for storage.

Holder for extra bicycle

Installing the extra holder

  • Install the mountings on the holder according to the dimensions illustrated.
  • Lock the mountings with screws.
  • Press the edge pieces into place and screw them into place on the underside.
  • Secure the screws in the mountings. Ensure that the screws are located in the mounting.
  • Screw the knob on the screws.

NOTE

  • The additional holder may not be used on the C30.

  • Assemble the mounting on the holder, 350 mm from the edge of the holder. Tighten to 2.5 Nm.

  • Repeat on the other side.

  • Install the extra holder in the intended location in the bicycle holder. Insert the mounting in the bicycle holder (1) and press the mounting (2) into place. A clicking sound should be heard.

  • Tighten the knob to 4 Nm.
