The device is designed for the reception and playback of radio programmes via DAB+ and FM. The device may only be operated with the accessories supplied (e.g. power supply unit, remote control, cable, aerial, etc.). A Any other use of these accessories is not permitted. The appliance is designed for private use and is not suitable for commercial purposes. Any other use is considered improper use!

The operating instructions are intended for any person who sets up, operates, cleans or disposes of the appliance.

Safe handling of the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2
Please observe the following instructions to minimise safety risks, avoid damage to the appliance and contribute to environmental protection. Please read all safety instructions carefully and keep them for future reference. Always follow all warnings and instructions in these operating instructions and on the back of the appliance.

WARNING!

• Never open the device or the power supply unit!
• Touching live parts is life-threatening!
• Observe all the following instructions to use the appliance as intended and to prevent appliance defects and personal injury.
• Do not repair the appliance yourself. Repairs may only be carried out by trained specialists. Please contact our customer service centres.
• The device may only be operated in the specified ambient conditions.
• Do not expose the appliance to dripping or splashing water. If water gets into the appliance, disconnect it from the power supply and contact the service centre
• Do not expose the appliance to heat sources that heat the appliance in addition to normal use.
• In the event of a conspicuous appliance defect, odour or smoke development, significant malfunctions or damage to the housing, contact the service department immediately.

Setting up the appliance

• Place the appliance on a firm, secure surface. Ensure good ventilation.
• Attention!
• Do not place the appliance on soft surfaces such as carpets, blankets or near curtains and wall hangings. The ventilation openings could be covered. This may interrupt the necessary air circulation. This could possibly lead to an appliance fire.
• Do not place the appliance near heat sources such as radiators. Avoid direct sunlight and locations with an unusually high level of dust.
• Please note that the appliance feet may leave coloured marks on certain furniture surfaces. Use protection between your furniture and the appliance.
• Keep the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 away from devices that generate strong magnetic fields.
• Do not place any heavy objects on the appliance.
• If you move the appliance from a cold to a warm environment, moisture may condense inside the appliance. In this case, wait about an hour before operating the appliance.
• Lay the USB cable so that nobody can trip over it.
• Make sure that the USB cable is always easily accessible so that you can quickly disconnect the device from the power supply!
• In the event of faults or smoke and odours coming from the housing, pull the mains plug out of the socket immediately!
• Excessive volume, especially for headphones, can lead to hearing damage.
• To extend the battery life, place the device with the solar panel in the sun and make sure it is in direct sunlight.

The special features of the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2

The TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 consists of a DAB+/UKW receiver with the following functions:

• You can store up to 10 DAB+ and 10 FM stations.
• The radio receives on the frequencies FM 87.5-108 MHz (analogue) and DAB+ 174.9-239.2 MHz (digital).
• Internal battery that can be charged via any 5V USB port.
• Battery life can be extended using the built-in solar panel or the crank handle.
• 5V output for charging external devices.
• Torch function.

Preparing the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 for operation

Align telescopic antenna
The number and quality of the stations to be received depends on the reception conditions at the installation site. Excellent reception can be achieved with the telescopic aerial.

• Pull out the telescopic aerial lengthways.
• The exact alignment of the telescopic antenna is important, especially in the fringe areas of DAB+ reception. On the Internet, for example, you can find
  “ www.dabplus.de ” the location of the nearest transmitter mast quickly to track down. Start the first search outdoors or at a window in the direction of the transmitter mast. In poor weather conditions, DAB+ reception may only be possible to a limited extent. Do not touch the telescopic aerial while playing a station. This can lead to impaired reception and audio dropouts.

Charge battery

• Connect the supplied USB-C charging cable to the DC-IN 5V socket (17) on the side, behind the water protection flap of the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2.
• Connect the USB port to a commercially available 5V, 2.3A USB power supply unit or a USB socket on a PC (min. 1 A charging current).
• Depending on the USB connection, the first charge of the battery takes a different amount of time. During the charging process, the charging LED (18) lights up red and goes out when the process is complete.

The charge status is shown on the display using a battery symbol.

• The battery life can be extended or the battery charged using the integrated solar panel or the hand crank.
• Fold in the telescopic aerial when using the hand crank. If the crank speed is sufficient, the charging LED (18) lights up red.
• When using the solar panel, pay attention to direct sunlight. If the angle of incidence is optimal and there is enough sunlight, the charging LED (18) lights up blue. It goes out if there is insufficient sunlight.

Headphones use hearing protectors!

Do not listen to the radio at high volume via headphones. This can lead to permanent hearing damage. Before using headphones, set the device volume to the minimum level. Only use headphones with a 3.5 millimetre stereo jack plug.

• Insert the plug of the headphones into the headphone socket (14) of the device. The sound is now reproduced exclusively via the headphones, the loudspeaker is muted.
• If you want to listen via the speakers again, unplug the headset from the headset socket on the device.

General device functions

Switch on the device

• To ensure good DAB+/FM (FM) reception, unplug the antenna completely. Please also refer to point 5.3.1.
• First prepare the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 as described in section 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 for operation.
• Press the Power button (13) to switch on the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2.

Switch off the device
Press the Power button (13) again to switch the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 off or back to standby mode.

Source selection
Use the MODE button (12) to switch between the sources DAB+ (digital radio) and FM (VHF) can be switched.

Setting the volume

• Adjust the volume by pressing the VOL+/VOL- buttons (10) on the device.
  • VOL+ – louder
  • VOL- – quieter.
    The set volume is shown on the display using a bar chart. Please also note point 5.3.3 on operation with connected headphones.

Display
Depending on the selected function or option, the following information is shown on the display:

Call up display screens

• Briefly press the INFO/MENU button (11) several times. You have the option of displaying the following information:
• In DAB+ mode (selected function is marked with an “*”):
• [LauŁext] (scrolling text with additional information that the broadcasters may provide), [Signal strength], [Programme type], [Ensemble], [Frequency],
• [Signal quality], [Bit rate and codec], [Time] and [Date].
• In FM/UKW mode (selected function is marked with an “*”):
• [Radio text] (if transmitted), [Programme type] (PTY), [Ps] (programme service name or station name or frequency), [Audio information], [Time] and [Date].

Menu operation
You can access all functions and settings of the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 via the menu using the INFO/MENU buttons, ◀, ▶ and OK. The menu is divided into submenus and, depending on the selected Source different menu items or functions that can be activated.

• To open the menu, simply press and hold the INFO/MENU button briefly until the first menu item of the selected source is displayed. To switch to sub menus, first select the submenu by pressing the ◀, ▶ select a submenu and then press the OK button to open the submenu. An asterisk (*) marks the current selection. To go back one step, briefly press the INFO/MENU button.
• Close the menu: Press the INFO/MENU button briefly several times (depending on which submenu you are in) until the current radio programme is displayed again.
• Settings are only saved by pressing the OK button. If the INFO/MENU button is pressed briefly during this time, the settings are not accepted and saved.
• Functions and buttons to be pressed are described in these operating instructions in feU is shown. Display indications in [square brackets].
• Some texts (e.g. menu entries, station information) may be too long to be shown on the display. After a short time, these will then be displayed as a loud text.

The DAB+ (digital radio) function

What is DAB+
DAB+ is a new digital format that allows you to listen to crystal-clear sound without noise. Unlike conventional analogue radio stations, DAB+ broadcasts several stations on the same frequency. This is called an ensemble or multiplex. An ensemble is made u p of the radio station and several service components or data services, which are broadcast individually by the radio stations.

DAB+ (digital radio) reception

• Press the MODE button until [DAB+] appears on the display.

Carry out a complete search
The automatic scan Full scan scans all DAB+ bands III channels and thus finds all stations broadcast in the reception area. Once the search is complete, the first station is played in alphanumeric order.

• To perform a complete search, open the menu by pressing and holding the INFO/MENU button and select the [Complete search] menu item using ◀, ▶. Press OK.

Alternative:

• Briefly press and hold the OK/SCAN button.
• The display shows [Search…].
• During the search, a progress bar and the number of channels found are displayed.
• If no station is found, check the telescopic antenna and change the installation location if necessary (point 5.3.1).

Select transmitter

• Press the ◀, ▶. buttons to call up the station list and switch between the available stations. Press OK to play the selected station.

Store DAB+ stations in a memory location
The programme memory can store up to 10 stations in the DAB+ range.

• First select the desired channel (see point 7.2.2).
• To save this station to a memory location, press and hold the 5+ button during playback until [Save favourite] appears in the display. Then use ◀, ▶ to select a favourite memory (1…10). Press OK to save.
• Repeat this process to save additional channels. Alternatively:
• Press and hold one of the direct dialling buttons 1…4 to select a station directly. to save.

Recalling DAB+ stations from a memory location

• To call up a station that you have previously stored in the favourite memory, briefly press the 5+ button and select a favourite memory (1…10) with ◀, ▶. Press OK to play the station. If no station is stored in the selected programme position, [(empty)] appears in the display.

Overwriting/deleting a programme position memory

• Simply save a new channel to a favourite memory location as described. All memory locations are deleted when the factory settings are called up.

Set manually
This menu item is used to check the reception channels and can be used to align the aerial. Furthermore, transmitters can be added manually.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [Manual setting] entry and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select a channel (5A to 13F) and press OK. The signal strength is now shown on the display. If a DAB+ signal is received on a channel-transmitter is received, the ensemble name of the transmitter is displayed.
• The antenna can now be aligned for maximum signal strength.
• Transmitters whose signal strength is below the required minimum signal strength do not transmit a sufficient signal. If necessary, align the telescopic antenna as described in section 5.3.1.
• If there are stations on the set frequency or channel that have not yet been saved in the station list, these will now also be saved.

Volume control (DRC)
The DRC menu item is used to set the compression rate, which compensates for dynamic fluctuations and the associated volume variations.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [DRC] entry.
• Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the compression rate:
  • DRC high -High compression
  • DRC low -Low compression
  • DRC off -compression switched off.
• Confirm by pressing the OK button.

Delete inactive transmitters
This menu item is used to remove old and no longer receivable channels from the channel list.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [Delete inactive channels] entry.

• Press OK.
  You will be asked [Delete?] whether the inactive transmitters should be deleted.

• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Yes] entry and confirm by pressing the OK button.

FM (VHF) operation

Switch on FM radio mode

• Press the Mode button to switch to FM mode.
• FM] appears on the display.
• When switching on for the first time, the frequency is set to 87.5 MHz.
• If you have already set or saved a station, the radio will play the last station set.
• The station name appears for RDS stations.
• To improve reception, align the telescopic antenna (point 5.3.1).

FM (VHF) reception with RDS information
RDS is a procedure for transmitting additional information about FM stations. Broadcasters with RDS transmit their station name or programme type, for example. This is shown on the display. The device can display the RDS information RT (radio text), PS (station name), PTY (programme type).

Automatic station search

• Press and hold the ◀, ▶ or OK/SCAN button to automatically search for the next station with sufficient signal.
• If an FM station with a sufficiently strong signal is found, the search stops and the station is played. If an RDS station is received, the station name and, if applicable, the radio text will appear.
• To set weaker transmitters, please use the manual setting Channel search.

Manual station search

• Press the ◀, ▶ buttons several times to set the desired station or frequency. The display shows the frequency in steps of 0.05 MHz. ▶ Increases the transmission frequency, ◀ decreases it.

Search setting
The sensitivity of the search run can be set in this menu item.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [Search setting] entry. Press OK.
• Select whether the search should only stop for strong channels [Only strong channels] or for all channels (including weak channels) [All channels]. With the All channels setting, the automatic search stops at every available channel. This can result in weak stations being played back with noise.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select an option and press the OK button to save the setting.

Store FM stations in a memory location
The programme memory can store up to 10 stations in the FM/UKW range.

• First set the desired transmission frequency (points 8.3, 8.4)
• To save this station to a memory location, press and hold the 5+ button during playback until [Save favourite] appears in the display. Then use ◀, ▶ to select a favourite memory (1…10). Press OK to save.
• Repeat this process to save additional channels. Alternatively:
• Press and hold one of the direct dialling buttons 1…4 to select a station directly. to save.

Recalling FM stations from a memory location

• To call up a station that you have previously stored in the favourite memory, briefly press the 5+ button and select a favourite memory (1…10) with ◀, ▶. Press OK to play the station. If no station is stored in the selected programme position, [(empty)] appears in the display.

Overwriting/deleting a programme position memory

• Simply save a new channel to the respective memory location as described.
• All memory locations are deleted when the factory settings are called up.

System settings and other functions
All settings described in this section apply equally to all sources.

Sleep timer
The sleep timer switches the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 OFF automatically after the set time.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Sleep timer] entry and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select a time period after which the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 should switch off. You can choose between Off, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes.
• Press OK to accept the setting.
• A “Z” appears on the display when the sleep timer is active If you want to switch off an active sleep timer, select Menu > System > Sleep timer > Off.

Time and date settings

Set time/date manually
Depending on the time update setting (point 9.2.2), you must set the time and date manually.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Time] entry and press OK.
• Then use ◀, ▶ to select the [Set time/date] entry and press OK.
• The first digits (hours) of the time will flash and can be changed with ◀, ▶ be amended.
• increases the value, ◀ decreases the value.
• Press OK to accept the setting.
• The next digits (minutes) of the time then flash and can also be changed as described above.
• Press OK after each additional setting to skip to the next setting.
• Proceed as described above to set the date.
• After all settings have been made and the last OK is pressed, [Time Saved] appears on the display.

Time update
In this submenu, you can specify whether the time should be updated automatically via DAB+ or FM (FM) or whether you want to enter it manually (point 9.2.1).

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Time] entry and press OK.
• Select the [Time update] entry and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the following options:
  • [All sources] (update via DAB+ and FM)
  • [Update from DAB] (update only via DAB+)
  • [Update from FM] (update only via FM)
  • [No update] (time/date must be entered manually, see Point 9.2.1).
• Press OK to accept the setting.

Setting the time format
In the Set 12/24 hours submenu, you can activate the 12 or 24 hour format.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Time] entry and press OK.
• Select the entry [Set 12/24 hours] and press OK.
• Select one of the following options:
  • [Set 24 hours]
  • [Set 12 hours]
• Press OK to accept.

Set date format
In the Set date format submenu, you can specify the format for displaying the date.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press Select.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Time] entry and press OK.
• Select the entry [Set date format] and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select one of the following options:
  • [DD-MM-YYYY] (day, month, year)
  • [MM-DD-YYYY] (month, day, year)
• Press OK to accept.

Display brightness
You can set the display brightness for both operation and standby.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Lighting] entry and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select one of the following functions:
  • [Operation] controls the brightness in the normal, switched-on state. You can choose between the brightness levels [High], [Medium], [Low] and [Off]. Use ◀, ▶ to select a brightness level and press OK to save.
  • [Standby] controls the brightness in standby mode. You can choose between the brightness levels [High], [Medium], [Low] and [Off]. Select with ◀, ▶ select a brightness level and press OK to save.
  • [Auto-Dim] automatically dims the display to the Low brightness value. Press OK to save a setting.

Language

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Language] entry and press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select one of the available languages and confirm your selection by pressing OK.

Factory setting
If you change the location of the device, e.g. if you move house, you may no longer be able to receive the saved channels. In this case, you can delete all saved channels by resetting to factory settings and then start a new channel search.

• Connect the TECHNIRADIO SOLAR 2 to the USB power supply.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.

• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Factory settings] entry and press OK.

• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [Yes] entry to perform the factory setting and press OK.
  All previously saved channels and settings are deleted. The device is now in the factory settings.

• The display shows [Restart…] and the device starts with the language selection [Language]. Use ◀, ▶ to select one of the available languages and confirm your selection by pressing OK. The device then automatically performs a complete search in DAB+ mode.

• During the scan, the display information shows the progress and t h e number of digital radio stations found. Once the station search is complete, the first DAB+ programme is played.

SW version
Under SW version you can query the currently installed SW version.

• Press and hold the INFO/MENU button and use ◀, ▶ to select the [System] entry. Press OK.
• Use ◀, ▶ to select the [SW version] entry.
• Press OK. The current SW version is displayed.

Cleaning

• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with a wet cloth or under running water. Switch off the appliance before cleaning!
• Do not use scouring pads, scouring powder or solvents such as alcohol or petrol.
• Do not use any of the following substances: Salt water, insecticide ammonia, chlorinated or acidic solvents (ammonia).
• Clean the housing with a soft cloth moistened with water. Do not use spirits, thinners, etc.; they could damage the surface of the device.
• Only clean the display with a soft cotton cloth. If necessary, use a cotton cloth with small amounts of non-alkaline, diluted water- or alcohol-based soapy water.
• Rub the cotton cloth gently over the surface.

Eliminate errors
If the device does not work as intended, check it using the following table.
