- Children younger than eight years old are to be kept away from the appliance and the power cord.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the appliance may not be carried out by children.
- The lighting of the appliance (if applicable) is extremely bright and may damage the eyes. Ensure that babies in particular cannot look into the lights directly.
- Ensure that batteries are not stored within children’s reach. Do not allow children to replace batteries without super-vision.
Novy hob/venting hob
WARNING: The hob/venting hob and its ac-cessible parts get hot during use and remain hot for some time after it has been switched off. Keep children at a distance until the hob/venting hob has cooled down sufficient-ly and there is no longer a risk of burns.
BEWARE OF BURNS! Do not keep objects that may be interesting for children at places above or behind the hob/venting hob. In this way, children are prevented from climbing onto the hob/venting hob.
RISK OF BURNS! Turn pan handles in a direction that they are positioned over the work top, so that children cannot pull the pans off the hob/venting hob.
Use the operation lock, so that children cannot switch on the hob/venting hob or change settings unintentionally.
2.3 Safety instructions when using the appliance
- This appliance is not suitable for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical ability or sensory per-ception, reduced mental ability or lack of knowledge and experience, unless they are given instructions about the use of the appliance by a person who is responsible for their safety.
- Moisture intrusion can cause an electrical shock. Do not use a steam cleaner or high-pressure cleaner to clean the appliance.
2.3.1 Extraction hood/venting hob
- Flambéing under/on the extraction hood/venting hob is not allowed under any circumstances.
WARNING Do not leave the appliance unattended when you are frying, roasting, grilling or deep-frying food. Overheated oil and fat can catch fire easily and cause material damage.
- Regularly clean the grease filter using the instructions from the user manual (to be consulted via the QR code on this document and on your extraction hood/venting hob). Failure to follow the cleaning instructions will lead to grease deposits in the filter, with a fire hazard as a result.
- NEVER use the appliance without the grease filters in order to prevent dirt and grease from penetrating the extraction hood/venting hob, which may impact the operation and functioning over time.
- NEVER douse burning fats with water. Always switch off the extraction hood and the hob immediately and smother the flames with a fitting lid or fire blanket.
WARNING: Note that certain parts of the extraction hood/venting hob may become hot during cooking.
– Gas hobs may accumulate much heat when in operation. Make sure this heat does not increase too much in the extraction hood. The extraction hood installed over the gas hobs can get damaged or catch fire.
- Only use the gas hobs when cooking utensils are placed on top.
- Turn off the gas hobs if you remove cooking utensils from the gas.
- When several gas hobs are used simultaneously, the extraction hood has to be set to position 2 or higher.
- Never use large gas hobs exceeding 5kW with the high-est flame longer than 15 minutes, for instance during stir-frying.
– If the extraction hood has a bottom plate, ensure that it is properly closed
at all times. When opening the bottom plate, do not put your hands on the side
of the hinges in order to prevent your fingers from being caught.
– Do not place objects on top of the extraction hood, as these may fall and
cause a dangerous situation.
2.3.2 Hob/Venting hob
– Only use the hob/venting hob if it has been installed correctly, so that safety is guaranteed.
CAUTION : The cooking process has to be supervised. A short term cooking process has to be supervised continuously.
WARNING : Danger of fire: do not store items on the cooking surfaces
- Care should be taken to avoid touching heating elements.
- Do not place metal objects such as knives, forks, spoons and lids onto the glass cooking surface, as they may get hot.
- Avoid contact of synthetic fabrics or aluminium foil with the hot zones. While cooling down, these fabrics may cause the cooking surface to crack or deteriorate. Turn off the appliance and remove synthetic fabrics or aluminium foil from the hot zones immediately (beware of the risk of burns). Do not use any protection foil for the cooking surface.
- Make sure that no electric cord from another appliance gets into contact with the hot cooking surface or the hot cooking pot.
- Ensure there is sufficient ventilation underneath the hob/venting hob as per the instructions provided in the Novy installation manual.
- If there is a drawer below the hob/venting hob, the dis-tance between the drawer contents and the bottom of the appliance has to be at least 2cm so as to assure proper ventilation.
- Do not place any inflammable objects (e.g. sprays) into the drawer below the hob/venting hob.
- Any cutlery drawers are to be made of heat-resistant ma-terials.
- Only use suitable cooking utensils that cannot melt or catch fire.
- Never cover the hob/venting hob with a cloth or protective top. These could get hot and catch fire.
- Always turn off the hob/venting hob after every use, using the power button.
- Clean the hob/venting hob and accessories only after they have cooled down completely.
- Keep magnetically sensitive objects (e.g. credit card, smartphone) away from the hob/venting hob when it is in operation.
- Induction hobs generate an electromagnetic field in the direct area. If you wear an active medical appliance (e.g. pacemaker, defibrillator, hearing aid), we recommend cau-tion when you are in close proximity to an induction hob that has been turned on. In the case of doubt, consult a physician or the manufacturer of your medical appliance.
2.3.3 Lighting
– The lighting is exclusively intended for the living and kitchen environment, with the exception of wet areas (e.g. the bathroom).
2.4 Safety instructions for correct air supply and air extraction for an extraction hood/venting hob
2.4.1 Installation with extraction to outside
– However large the kitchen or the room with open kitchen is, only so much air can be extracted from the room as is supplied. Too little air supply could result in a yield loss of 50% and more.
– If the Novy extraction hood/venting hob is used at the same time as a combustion system (e.g. heaters fired by gas, oil, wood or coal, hot water boilers using gas, gas hobs and gas ovens), combustion gases may be sucked back in and lead to poisoning.
A combustion system uses air from the room as combustion air. Combustion gases arise as a result, which are removed to the outside by an extraction system. The extraction hood/venting hob sucks in air from the kitchen and adjacent rooms.
Negative pressure occurs if the air supply is insufficient. The toxic gases are then sucked back from the chimney or ex-traction duct into the room.
With simultaneous use of the extraction hood/venting hob and combustion appliances in the same room, the negative pressure may not exceed 4Pa (= 0.04mBar). Negative pressure can be prevented by ensuring sufficient air is supplied into the room through openings that cannot be closed (for example through windows or doors, in combination with a ventilation cabinet in the wall).
The extracted air is not to be led out via a flue gas or exhaust gas chimney that is currently in use, nor via a shaft for venti-lating rooms with hearths. If the extracted air gets into a flue gas or exhaust gas chimney not currently in use, you should consult a professional chimney sweep. At any rate, consult the company that sees to cleaning the chimney of your home. Have this expert assess the overall ventilation system in your home for a proposal on suitable measures with respect to air supply.
2.4.2 Installation with recirculation
– With an extraction hood/venting hob with recirculation, there must be a minimum of ventilation in the room where the appliance has been installed/positioned. Ventilation can be provided by the overall ventilation in the home or by tilting a window or opening a door.
2.5 Precautionary measures in the event of a fault
– If a fault occurs, switch off the appliance immediately and disconnect the
power supply.
– Switch off the electric power to the hob/venting hob im-mediately if there
is a crack or flaw in the cooking surface, and inform the Novy service
department.
– Faulty or damaged parts may only be replaced by original Novy parts.
– Repairs should be carried out only by a qualified profes-sional. Do not
under any circumstances open the appli-ance yourself. Contact the Novy service
department and notify them of the fault, stating the correct identification
details of your appliance.
