Introduction
Capabilities of Portable Command Post (PCP)
- PCP is capable of communicating wirelessly with the main server at Pictometry and other websites.
- Use web based Pictometry software to download and view image files
- PCP is capable of functioning without any external power supply for at least 4 hours
- PCP is capable of being carried by case handle or backpack
- PCP is water resistance
System operation
Start the PCP

Open the top lid of the PCP

Check to see if the battery has sufficient charge (Refer to Alarm & Indicators section)

Switch on the router
o When the router is ready to use the red light will starts to blink -
Open the laptop and press the power button

Wait until Windows operating system starts on the laptop
Checking Network Strength
- Open the web browser
- Type in 192.168.1.1 in the address field and press enter
- Network strength will be displayed on the top of the webpage
Operating the PCP
- Open the Internet Browser Icon that is on the desktop
- Type in < https://pol.pictometry.com/r1/login.htm> in the address field
- Use the provided user name and the password provided to log in
- Select the type of search (Address or Lat/Long) from the pull down menu
- Type in the respective search information
- Press Enter on the keyboard
Shutting down the PCP
- Close all the applications on the laptop
- Click on the Start button at the bottom left of the screen; then, click on shut down
- Wait until the laptop shuts windows down
- Switch off the Nexus Hawk Router
- Close the laptop
- Close the PCP
Charging
Charging from AC Power
- Plug the 3-pin AC plug in to a power outlet
- Plug the other end of the AC adaptor in to the PCP
Charging from DC Power
- Plug the DC adaptor in to the vehicle’s cigarette lighter or the power source
- Plug the other end of the DC adaptor in to the PCP Pull the air card out to remove and push in to insert
Charging from a fully discharged battery to fully charged battery approximately will take around 3 hours.
Battery could be discharged during storage thus it is important to keep the PCP plugged in to either AC or DC power outlet
Adding/Changing Phone Cards
- Power off the Nexus Hawk Router
- Remove the phone card from the slot.
- Insert the new phone card.
- Power on the Nexus Hawk router
Connecting to the Network
- Right click wireless network connection icon Left click on view available networks Select PCPHawk
Troubleshooting
What to do if the system does not start
- Check if the battery is fully discharged. If the battery if fully discharged then recharge the battery(refer to section 3)
o If the battery is fully discharged and if there is a DC/AC power source available then the PCP could be used while the AC/DC power source is connected
What to do if no connectivity is available
- Right click wireless network connection icon Left click on view available networks Select PCPHawk
- Check for power to the Nexus Hawk router
- Check if the antenna is fixed properly
- Switch the router off for 10 seconds and back on
- Suspect an issue with interference, move the PCP to a different location if possible
Alarms and Warnings
Low Battery Alarm

Low Battery Alarm will start beeping as the battery reaches a critically low level.
Internal PC will go into hibernation mode -
Recovery Plan:
- Immediately plug in the AC or the DC adapter to the PCP and supply power so that the battery will be charged.
- If any external power source is unavailable save any important documents and shut the computer down.
Low Battery Alarm
- There are two indicators for pack A and B (See image below).
- Indicator will show the amount of power in the battery. When the battery is fully charged both the bars will look black and when the battery is fully discharged both the bars will look empty.
- Recovery Plan:
- Charge the Battery with either AC or DC power supply.
Maintenance
Air card and Satellite Contracts
- Air card and the Satellite contracts are only valid for a limited period. Usually 1-2 years. Therefore these contracts have to be renewed on time to void cancellation
Physical Limitations
- Operation temperature should be within 0 – 100 Fahrenheit’s
- System will not survive a drop more than 2 feet vertically.
- System is not water resistant when the case is opened.
Storage
- Battery could be discharged during storage thus it is important to keep the PCP plugged in to either AC or DC power outlet
Battery Life
- Expected battery life of the Nexus Hawk router should be around 8 hours when the system is used only on the battery
- Laptop Battery life depends on the usage
o Always try to use the minimum brightness of the laptop screen
o Keep the top lid of the laptop closed when in idle
