How to Connect DIRECTV Genie® to Wi-Fi

Watch this video to learn how to connect your Genie® HD DVR model HR44 to the Internet. Follow the simple steps for connecting your Genie.
Please note: If your HD DVR used to be connected to the Internet, but it isn’t any longer click here to follow instructions on how to reconnect. A minimum connection speed of 750Kbps (DSL or cable modem) is required. 2Mbps or higher is recommended.
First, confirm your Genie model number by pressing and holding the INFO button on your remote until the Info & Test appears on your TV. You’ll see the model number in the “Receiver” line. Make sure the receiver model is HR44. For other HD DVR models, please click here.
There are two ways to connect your Genie HD DVR model HR44 to your home Wi-Fi network. You can connect automatically if your wireless router has Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), which allows you to connect without entering your Wi- Fi network name and password. Or you can connect manually by entering your Wi-Fi network name and password.
To check if your router has WPS, look for a button with the logo pictured on the right. Click “Yes” or “No” below, and then just follow the simple steps for connecting your Genie.

Connecting your Genie HD DVR model HR44 automatically using WPS.
Step 1
Press MENU on your remote.
Step 2
Use your arrow keys to highlight Settings and press SELECT.
Step 3
Select Network Setup on the left sidebar, then select Connect Now.
Please note: If your Genie HD DVR was previously connected to your home Wi- Fi network and the connection was lost, select Restore Defaults before selecting Connect Now
Step 4
You will see this screen while your Genie connects with your wireless router.
Step 5
Select Continue.
Step 6
Select Push Button Setup.
Step 7

You’re Connected! Now you can access thousands of On Demand titles, YouTube, Pandora, TV Apps, LIVE TV on your iPad, and more.

If No, my router does NOT have WPS or I want to configure my router manually.
Connecting your Genie HD DVR model HR44 manually. You’ll need to know your Wi- Fi network name and password.
Step 1
Press MENU on your remote.
Step 2

Step 3
Select Network Setup on the left sidebar then select Connect Now.

Select your wireless network and select Continue.

Enter your wireless network password and select Continue.
