PROPER LOCATION
Flying insects will always be more attracted to humans than to lights, however
they will gravitate to the strongest light source in the area.
We suggest when Flying insects are very aggressive in your area, try and stay
away from the bug zapper for a few days with only the light of the zapper on.
This will help lure them into its trap and kill off the majority of insects.
Depending on the insect population, two weeks or more may be necessary to
significantly reduce the population. Device can be located in an outdoor
setting only in cases where it is protected from any rain such as in a covered
porch or carport. Ideal location should be 6-7 feet above ground level to
prevent children from reaching the unit. Keep at least 6 feet away from any
food prep or food storage areas and away from fans or open windows when used
inside. Always make sure to mount in a sturdy location.
USING THE ZAPPER
- Unpack unit and save all packaging material for storage when season is over.
- Select the proper location as noted in above instructions.
- Ensure bottom tray is tightened against base before installation.
- Screw unit into standard lamp socket.
- If zapping grid shows signs of accumulation of dead insects on the live electrified grid, occasional cleaning of wire grid may be required. (see Electric Grid Cleaning, Pg. 4)
- It is recommended to use this unit from early Spring until late Fall for best results.
- Unscrew device when not in use for long periods of time.
MAINTENANCE
The CBZ5J Bug Zapper Bulb housing does not require cleaning. Do not attempt to clean the housing with water or spray or any other liquids.
REMOVING & CLEANING BOTTOM TRAY
Regular emptying of bottom tray/cap is necessary to ensure your bug zapper performs optimally.
Removing Tray
Tray is located on the bottom of the device. Wearing gloves, grasp tray and turn counter-clockwise to loosen and remove. Use caution when removing as an accumulation of dead insects can occur and fall out during removal.
Reassembling Tray:
Once properly emptied, reassembly is achieved by reassembling cap on base of
bulb and turning clockwise until cap is snug.
ELECTRIC GRID CLEANING:
WARNING:
Always unscrew your Bug Zapper before cleaning to avoid electric shock. When
cleaning electric grid, only use included cleaning brush to avoid any risk of
shock or injury. Ignoring this warning may result in death or injury.
- In areas with large insect populations, electric grid may begin to accumulate dead insects on the grid that can affect the function of the device. To ensure effective use of this device periodic cleaning of electric grid with included brush may be necessary.
- Rate of cleaning depends on insect population in your area.
- Unscrew the device and remove unit from socket and allow it to sit for two hours to allow all electricity in unit to disperse.
- Access grid through the open slots in grill as shown using included cleaning brush and gently brush away dead insects so they fall down into the lower grate for removal.
- Never use water to clean the unit as this can cause damage to the electronics.
- Use care and make sure not to move the metal electric grid.
- When cleaning of grid is completed, screw bulb back into socket and device is ready for use.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
WARNING:
Do not try to adjust or repair the zapper yourself. Component parts shall be
replaced with like components. Servicing shall be done by factory authorized
service personnel to minimize the risk of possible ignition due to incorrect
parts or improper service.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Device does not light but appears to have voltage through the electrical grid:
- Check if bulb is properly seated in socket.
- Ensure device is screwed into a functioning socket.
- Move unit to another area for better results.
- Allow more time. It can take several weeks for the device to affect the insect population depending on the density of insects.
- Check surrounding area to ensure there are no features that may be drawing the insects to your location. Examples include standing water, refuse and bright lights that may compete with the light output of this unit.
BEFORE YOU CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE:
- Check to make sure that the unit is screwed in securely. If it is not, remove the unit from the socket, wait 10 seconds and screw in again securely.
- Check for a blown circuit fuse or a tripped main circuit breaker. If these seem to be operating properly, test the socket with another light bulb.
