Pesky Humans is a point-and-click arcade game where you need to prevent those humans from colonizing your newly discovered planet before your own people can arrive.
To keep your planet safe, you need to use your mouse to move the targeting scope over the enemy ships and click. However, your laser needs a short time to power up before it can fire, so make sure you lead your target just enough to land a hit.
If one of the ships can beam down a base to the planet, you can click on it and try to launch a nuclear missile to try and destroy it. However, they’re prone to detection by enemy warships, so you’ll need to protect them if you can.
You win the game if you can last seven entire stages without the humans building a 24-base colony on the planet. At the last minute of each stage, the humans will bring out heavilyarmed boss ships that will try to keep you busy while they double down on colonizing the planet.
There are four different classes of ships. Each class has its own abilities, and as the game progresses, you’ll want to prioritize your effort to keep them at bay.
First off, the Red Colony Ships will carry two colony bases at a minimum and will try to get their cargo unloaded quickly. There will be a noticeable red swirl effect when their transporters are online, and you must destroy them before they complete!
Green Frigate Ships carry a single colony base, although the larger versions will carry more. They tend to have faster engines, and they will have a noticeable green swirl effect when they’re trying to offload their cargo. Try to zap them before they finish.
Grey Scout Craft have complex sensor suites that can detect your ship or missiles you’ve launched if they’re close enough. Detected objects will have an obvious marker telling you that it has been spotted.
Blue Fighter Craft respond to detected objects with their own missiles or lasers. The heavy class fighters will have a couple sensor suites too, which make them especially dangerous.
Your ship can hide in the magnetic fields of the planet, but if too many ships take notice of you or if you need to move to avoid missiles, use the [W] or the [S] key to warp to the north or south pole, as appropriate.
Your ship has shields, of course, which recharge fully at the end of every stage. But be careful! The boss missiles can rapidly deplete your shields if you don’t pay attention.
You can pause the game by hitting [Escape], and doing so opens your upgrade screen. From there, you can buy an upgrade, equip an upgrade you own, or hire a fleet of pirate warships to aid in your efforts.
You can upgrade your ship or buy pirates’ assistance using red and blue
crystals found in the game. You can find blue crystals in the stage selection
screen by shooting up asteroids, although they are rare. The more likely
source is destroying larger class ships, which tend to give between one to
three crystals depending on their size.
Pirates come in
two varieties. First, you have the Raiders, which will fly across the screen
and try to shoot down as many ships as they can target as they go past.
They’re useful for giving you a little breathing room if things are just
getting way too hectic. The second variety are the Bombers, who will destroy
every single base on the planet. They’re more expensive to hire, but towards
the end of the game, they can definitely save the day if you’re only one base
away from losing.
Once purchased, your Pirate contracts remain ready until you need them. You can activate either of your Pirate contracts by clicking the appropriate icon in the upper right corner.
Blue crystals are pretty easy to find. On the other hand, Red Crystals are only awarded if you complete an entire game and sometimes when a larger human craft is destroyed. Think carefully before buying upgrades, as they will undoubtedly change the way you play.
There are two kinds of ship upgrades. First, there are the different kinds of nuclear missiles you can use to destroy the bases, each with its own strengths and weaknesses compared to the default missile. Then, you have the different ship gadgets, ranging from a faster targeting controller to enhanced shields and more. You can only select one missile and one ship gadget at a time, but you can switch out by pausing the game at any time.
