NORDIC GAMES Shuffleboard and Curling game rules
Rules for shuffleboard
Object:
- Be the first team to reach 21 points.
Including:
- 2 x 4 pucks (red and blue) Reversible table top
Rules
Players divide up into 2 teams with a max of 4 players per team. One member
from each team will rock-paper-scissor to determine which team goes first.
During each round, teams will take turns sliding mini pucks to the scoring
zones at the other end. Each time a team is up during the round, a new member
from the team will slide one puck. Once all pucks have been slid the score is
recorded. Once the round is complete, a new round begins.
Scoring
There are three scoring zones that are labeled 1,2 and 3. When a mini puck
enters a scoring zone it needs to remain there until the end of the round to
count. If a puck is predominantly in a zone but part of it has entered into a
higher scoring zone, the puck would score the higher point value. When
recording points, teams have the option to have points cancel out if they
wish. Canceling example: Team 1 scores 3 and team 2 scores 5, then team 2
would score only 2 points and team 1 would score zero.
This example is either scored as TEAM 1 with 5 points and TEAM 2 with 6 points, OR with canceling rules it is scored as TEAM 1 with 0 points and TEAM 2 with 1 point (6 points – 5 points = 1 point).
Technique
- Blocking: Teams can protect previously slid pucks by sliding another puck in front of it. This will help to create a protective barrier during the other teams turn.
- Defending – Teams can use their mini puck to knock the opposing team out of a scoring opportunity.
- Flip the puck – try out both sides of the puck. You will find that one side slides slighly different than the other!
Rules for curling
Object:
Be the team with the higher score at the end of 8 rounds.
Rules
Players divide up into two teams and choose one player to be the skipper (team
captain). The skipper is going to play a key role during each team´s turn.
Flip a coin to determine what team goes first.
During the first round of play, the skipper for each team will be only one
sliding the mini pucks to the house (target at the opposing end). The skipper
from team 1 will slide one puck, the the skipper from team two will slide one
puck. The skippers will go back and forth until all 4 of their pucks have been
used. Once the round is over the scoring team records their points.
Now the next round begins. It´s time for another player to slide the pucks
down the board towards the house. Before each players slides their pucks, the
skipper will advise where they should aim. Once the puck is released and is
sliding to the desired target, the skipper has their most important job yet.
They need to yell at the puck to make sure it stays on track until stops
moving. This play continues until 8 rounds have been finished.
Scoring
The object is to be the team closest to the center of the house. The team with
the closer mini puck will score one point for every puck that is closer than
the opposing team. If both teams feel their mini puck is closer, there is no
point awarded.
This example shows that TEAM 2 scored 1 point because only one puck was
closest to the center of the house than TEAM 1´s closest puck to the center.
Technique:
Aside from the skipper yelling at the mini pucks, there are a few techniques
that we suggest trying.
- Blocking – Teams can protect previously slid pucks by sliding another puck in front of it. This will help to create a protective barrier during the other teams turn.
- Defending – Teams can use their mini puck to knock the opposing team out of a scoring opportunity.
- Flip the puck – try out both sides of the puck. You will find that one side slides slightly different than the other!
