Cost-Effective 8” Ceiling Speaker for 70V Paging Systems

The 30AE-70V paging speaker provides economical paging coverage for 70 Volt paging systems.
In-office and restaurant environments, it is best to distribute sound more evenly. Ceiling mounted 30AE-70V speakers in close proximity offer the best distribution and are cost-effective.
The 30AE-70V ceiling speaker provides a built-in step-down transformer for use with 25V or 70V paging systems such as Viking models PA-30, PA-60, PA-250, PA-250-IP, and  PP-250. The transformer has a range of 5 separate power taps, which can be used to adjust the volume of each speaker. This higher voltage distributed audio

30AE-70V

paging systems also have the advantage of being able to connect more speakers using lighter gauge wire runs while having ess volume lost in wire resistance. This saves wiring costs compared to 8 ohm systems.

Wiring

A. 70V Paging System

Step 1.| Using the supplied wire nuts, Connect 70V paging (-) output to the BLACK wire.
---|---
Step 2.| Connect 70V paging (+) output to the desired Power Tap. Example below uses YELLOW for 2.5 Watts.
Step 3.| Cut off or insulate all unused wires so they do not touch each other.

VIKING Cost Effective 8” Ceiling Speaker - Wiring

Note 1: Each tap will play 3dB louder or softer than the next, so the five taps offer a 12dB volume range.
B. 25V Paging System
The 30AE-70V ceiling speakers can be used with 25V paging amplifiers. The lower voltage means less speaker volume. Connect the same as described above in 70V Paging  System, but using this scaling for the Power Taps.

Power Taps
RED 1.25W
ORANGE 0.62W
YELLOW 0.31W
GREEN 0.16W
BLUE 0.08W

C. Use with Viking Model PA-30 or PA-60 Amplifiers
Viking models PA-30 (DOD 489) and PA-60 (DOD 493) have the ability to drive 25V and 70V paging speakers. This is achieved by bridging together two differential 8-ohm outputs to get a high voltage output (see DOD 489 and 493 for additional information). The achieved output voltage is actually between the 25V and 70V standards. Because of this, a third Power Tap scaling should be used when connected to Viking Model PA-30 or PA-60 Amplifiers. Connect the same as described in the 70V Paging System section, but use the below Power Tap scaling to manage power handling and adjust the volume of each 30AE-70V ceiling speaker. Best results are achieved if the power sum of all
The speakers used does not excessively exceed the power output of the PA-30 or PA-60 amplifier.

Cost-Effective Speakers for Indoor and Outdoor Use
The 300AE paging horn provides a direct voice coil connection for use with 8-ohm paging systems such as Viking models PA-2A, PA-15, PA-60, HF-3W, DVA-2WA and M2W.  Even though its 30-watt rating is greater than some lower power paging amplifiers, the 300AE is an excellent choice because it is more efficient than Viking’s smaller 25AE  paging horn. In other words, the larger 10 inch 300AE only needs 1 watt of power to play as loud as 2 watts being driven into the smaller 25AE paging horn. The 300AE paging horn also provides a built-in step-down transformer for use with 25V or 70V paging systems such as Viking models PA-30, PA-60, PA-250, PA-250-IP and PP-250. The transformer has a range of power taps that are selectable with a 6 position rotary switch so that installers are able to independently adjust the volume of each paging horn.  Higher voltage paging systems also have the advantage of being able to connect more speakers using lighter gauge wire runs and still have less volume lost in wire resistance. For more information on the 300AE, see DOD 497.
