Proper use
The Bluetooth speaker is a home entertainment device and is used to play back music and audio from audio files sent via Bluetooth®.
The device is only intended for private use and not for industrial/ commercial use.
Note that no liability will be accepted if the device is used for an improper purpose:
- Do not modify the device without our express agreement and do not use any accessories that have not been supplied or approved by us.
- Only use replacement parts or accessories that we have supplied or approved.
- Comply with all the information in these operating instructions, especially the safety information. Any other use is improper and might cause personal injury or damage to property.
- Only use the device indoors.
- Do not use the device in extreme ambient conditions.
Safety information
- Keep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children.
- This device may be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or by those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the device and have understood the dangers that result from it.
- Children must not be allowed to play with the device.
- Do not allow children to clean the device or perform maintenance tasks on it unless they are over 8 years old and properly supervised.
- Do not allow children younger than 8 years old near the device.
- Do not store any of the packaging material used (bags, polystyrene, etc.) within the reach of children.
- Do not allow children to play with the packaging.
Operational safety
Risk of electric shock!
There is a risk of electric shock due to live parts. Improper repair of the
device can create the risk of electric shock.

Check the device for damage before using it for the first time and after each use.

Do not use the device if it shows signs of damage.

Contact the Service Centre without delay if the device has been damaged during transport or there is a technical problem.

Do not open the housing of the device.
There are no parts inside the housing that require cleaning or servicing. -
The battery is integrated and cannot be exchanged by the consumer.
Setting up the device
Ambient conditions such as humidity and excessive heat can damage the device.
- Only use the device in a temperate climate and not in tropical conditions.
- The device can be operated at an ambient temperature of 0°C to +40°C and at a relative humidity of 10% – 90% (non-condensing).
- When the device is switched off, it can be stored at -10°C to +60°C.
- If the device is brought from a cold location to a hot location, condensation can develop in the device. The condensation that develops can potentially destroy the device. When the device has reached room temperature, it is safe to operate.
Take care during set-up that:
- the device is not exposed to any direct heat sources (e.g. heaters);
- there is sufficient clearance from other objects and the device is not covered, meaning that adequate ventilation is always ensured;
- the device is not in direct sunlight;
- contact with dampness, water is avoided and no objects filled with liquid – e.g. vases – are placed near the device;
- the device is not operated close to magnetic fields (e.g. televisions or other speakers);
- naked flames (such as lit candles) are not placed near the device.
Power supply
The speaker is run on the integrated 3.7 V Lithium Ion battery (2000 mAh),
which you can charge with the supplied USB cable in a USB port with an output
current of at least 1 A.
Use of rechargeable batteries
Rechargeable batteries may contain combustible materials.
If not handled properly, rechargeable batteries may leak, overheat, ignite or even explode, which can result in damage to the device and your health.
Please follow the safety advice below:
Risk of explosion!
There is a risk of explosion if batteries are not handled properly.
- Do not throw the Bluetooth speaker into a fire.
- Never expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunlight, fire, strong artificial light or similar.
Package contents
Risk of choking and suffocation!
Risk of choking and suffocation through swallowing or inhaling small parts or plastic wrap. The packaging is not a toy!
- Do not store any of the packaging material used (bags, polystyrene, etc.) within the reach of children.
- Do not allow children to play with the packaging.
- Remove the product from the packaging and remove all the packaging material.
- Please check your purchase to ensure that all items are included. If anything is missing, please contact us within 14 days of the purchase.

Start-up
The speaker battery must be completely charged before use.
The normal charging time of the battery is approx. 3–4 hours.
To charge the battery, proceed as follows:
- Open the cover on the underside of the speaker and connect the supplied USB cable to the micro-USB port (11) .
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB port of a PC or notebook.
The LED charging light (10) will light up red during the charging process. As soon as the battery is fully charged, the LED charging light will go out.
If the battery level is too low, an alert tone will sound and the speaker will turn off automatically. Charge the battery before you use the device again.

Operation
Turning the speaker on
Connecting the device via Bluetooth®
Reconnect mode
After it turns on, the speaker will be in reconnect mode and will search for the most recently connected audio output device. If possible, the speaker establishes this connection automatically.
Turn on Bluetooth on the audio output device if you would like it connected to the speaker again.
During the search, the status LED fl ashes blue at 5-second intervals.
When the connection is established, a short alert tone will sound on the speaker, and the status LED will fl ash blue once after 4 seconds and then at 2-second intervals.
The devices are now connected to each other and you can start playing audio.
Pairing mode
After searching for several seconds, if no most recently connected audio output device is found, a short alert tone will sound and the speaker will switch automatically into pairing mode, which enables the connection of a new audio output device.
The status LED will rapidly flash blue.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your audio output device and start the search for Bluetooth devices nearby.
- Select the speaker “MD 43989” from the device list on your audio output device and pair the devices with each other.
You will find further information about device pairing in the operating instructions of the audio output device concerned.
If a connection password is requested, enter “OOOO”.
When pairing is successful, a short alert tone will sound on the speaker, and the status LED will flash blue once after 4 seconds and then at 2-second intervals.
The devices are now connected to each other and you can start playing audio.
If the speaker does not receive any signal within 8 minutes, it will automatically turn off to save battery power.
Changing from connected mode to pairing mode
Even if an active connection to an audio output device already exists, it is possible to connect another audio output device to the speaker without needing to turn the speaker off.
The status LED will rapidly flash blue.
- Now connect the devices as described in the “Pairing mode“ section.
Turning the device off
- Turn the speaker off by pressing and holding on the top of the device until you hear a series of tones.
The status LED will go out and the Bluetooth connection to a connected audio output device will be automatically terminated.
Playback controls
Audio playback can be controlled from both the audio output device and the speaker.
Increase/reduce volume
- Press once or several times to increase the volume.
- Press once or several times to decrease the volume.
When the minimum or maximum volume setting is reached, a series of tones will sound on the speaker.
Call function via the speaker
If you have the speaker connected to your smartphone, various call functions are available to you using the speaker:
Incoming calls
If there is an incoming call, the ring tone of your smartphone plays through
the speaker and audio playback is automatically paused.
Audio playback resumes automatically.
Call last number dialed
If there is a last phone number dialled in the call history of your
smartphone, it is possible to call that number again through the speaker.
- Press twice to call the last number dialed from your call history.
- Press again to cancel the call.
Connecting several speakers to each other (pairing function)
It is possible to connect two or more Bluetooth speakers and an audio output device with each other.
To activate the pairing function, proceed as follows:
- Set up all the speakers within a radius of 1 m and turn the speakers on, one immediately after the other.
- Now choose one of the speakers at random that will function as the host device.
- Press and hold on all the speakers except the host device speaker for at least 3 seconds.
A series of tones will sound on all paired speakers and each of their status LEDs will light up red.
The status LED on the host device speaker will rapidly flash blue and will be ready for pairing with an audio output device.
- Now pair the host device speaker with the audio output device as described in the “Pairing mode“ section.
The paired speakers will not be listed separately on the device list on your audio output device, since they are already connected to the host device speaker.
After successful pairing, an alert tone will sound on all paired speakers, and the status LED will fl ash blue once after 4 seconds and then at 2-second intervals.
The devices are now connected to each other and you can start playing audio.
Deactivating the pairing function
The pairing function will remain active until you deactivate it again. To do
this, proceed as follows:
- Press and hold for approx. 3 seconds on one of the paired speakers that is turned on until the red status LED goes out.
The pairing function is now deactivated and you can use the speakers separately again.
Alternatively, you can deactivate the pairing function by turning the speaker off and then on again.
Reset
If at any time your speaker does not function correctly, reset the device software as follows:
- Open the cover on the bottom of the device.
- Carefully insert a pointed object (Ø 0.8–1 cm) into the reset opening 12 until you feel some resistance.
- Push the object lightly into the opening to perform the reset.
The speaker will reset the device software and turn itself off.
You can now turn your speaker on and use it as usual.
Cleaning
Risk of damage!!
There is a risk of damaging the device if it is cleaned incorrectly.
- Do not use solvents, corrosive or gaseous cleaning agents, as these may damage the surface of the device.
- Clean the device only with a slightly damp cloth.
Furniture is often coated with various lacquers or plastics and cared for with a range of products. Many of these substances contain ingredients that can attack and soften the material the base of the speaker is made of.
- If necessary, place a non-slip underlay beneath the speaker
Storing the device when not in use
- Perform a complete charging cycle once a month. This prevents the battery from completely discharging, which may permanently damage it.
- Store the device in a dry, dust-free location out of direct sunlight if it will not be used for some time.
Troubleshooting
- If the device malfunctions, please check first whether you can fix the problem yourself with the help of the following overview.
- Never try to repair the device yourself. Contact our Service Centre if a repair is necessary.
Disposal
PACKAGING
The product has been packaged to protect it from damage in transit. The packaging is made of materials that can be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
DEVICE
The device is equipped with one integrated rechargeable battery. At the end of
its service life, do not dispose of the device with normal household waste. If
you can no longer use your electrical device, dispose of it in accordance with
the legal provisions applicable in your area. This involves separating the
materials in the device for the purpose of recycling and minimising the
environmental impact.
Contact your local waste disposal company or
your local authority for more information on this subject.
