Protection class II

Proper use
The robot vacuum cleaner is designed to automatically vacuum dry indoor surfaces such as smooth, level floors. Thanks to laser-controlled navigation, the robot vacuum cleaner manoeuvres independent-ly and is able to detect and navigate around objects and obstacles. The appliance can be controlled using either the control panel on the robot vacuum cleaner or the mobile app. The robot vacuum cleaner is able to store a map of the operational environment. The user can divide this map into rooms and define zones that the robot vacuum cleaner may not enter. Do not use the appliance outdoors. The appliance is only intended for private use and not for industrial/commercial use. Please note that we shall not be liable in cases of improper use:
- Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not use any auxiliary equip-ment that we have not approved or supplied.
- Only use replacement parts or accessories that we have supplied or approved. Comply with all the information in this user manual, especially the safety information. Any other use is considered improper and can cause personal injury or property damage.

- Keep the appliance and its accessories out of the reach of children.
- This appliance can be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or by those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and have un-derstood the dangers that result from it.
- Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance.
- Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are aged 8 or over and are supervised.
- Children younger than 8 should be kept away from the appliance, mains adapter and mains cable.

Live parts. There is a risk of electric shock/short circuit.
- Use the supplied mains adapter and the charging station to charge the batteries.
- The mains adapter may only be used in dry rooms.
- Only connect the mains adapter to a properly installed, easily accessible power socket. The local mains voltage must correspond to the technical data for the mains adapter.
- The mains socket must be easily accessible so you can unplug the appliance from the mains quickly if necessary.
- hen unplugging the mains cable from the socket, always pull on the plug rather than on the cable. Do not kink or crush the mains cable.
- In the event of damage to the plug, mains cable, charging station or the appliance itself or if liquids or foreign bodies get into the appliance, unplug the appliance from the sock-et immediately.
- Only use the appliance in enclosed spaces and never expose the appliance to water drop-lets or spray.
- Do not touch the appliance with wet hands while the appliance is charging.
- Check the robot vacuum cleaner and the mains cable for damage before using the appli-ance for the first time and after every use.
- Do not use the appliance if the robot vacuum cleaner, charging station or mains adapter is visibly damaged.
- If you discover any transport damage, contact the Service Centre immediately.
- Unplug the mains adapter from the socket if you are away for a long period or in the event of a thunderstorm.
- Never immerse the robot vacuum cleaner, charging station or mains adapter in water or other liquids! Always unplug the mains adapter from the socket before cleaning or servic-ing the appliance and before fitting or removing accessories.
- Do not expose the appliance to extreme conditions. Avoid:
- high humidity or wet conditions
- extremely high or low temperatures
- direct sunlight

There is a risk of fire or explosion when vacuuming up flammable liquids or
certain solid materials.
- Never use the appliance near highly flammable materials. Do not vacuum up sharp-edged or highly flammable objects and liquids such as matches or hot ashes.
- Do not vacuum up toner particles (laser printer, photocopier) under any circumstances.

Only use the appliance to vacuum small amounts of dust, dirt and crumbs. Empty the dust container after every use.

Do not use the appliance to vacuum up liquids or damp dirt.

In order to avoid the risk of tripping, do not use an extension cable and inform any per- sons present about the operation of the robot vacuum cleaner.

Remove all fragile items (e.g. glass, lamps, vases) and objects that could become trapped in the brushes or sucked up (e.g. cords, clothing, newspapers, curtains) from the working area before operating the appliance. If required, set the light barrier to limit the working area.

Do not cover the sensors and ventilation slots on the robot vacuum cleaner.
- NOTICE!
Possible damage to the appliance due to abrasion on rough surfaces. Some skirting, especially chimneys and ovens, can have a rough, brushed or grainy anodised, cast iron, steel or metal surface. These surfaces can act like sandpaper on rubber and plastic surfaces and damage the surface if coming into contact with the appliance. The above surfaces themselves can also be damaged by collision with the appliance.

Prevent the appliance from colliding with rough, brushed or grainy surfaces so as to avoid damage. Test the surface by carefully rubbing a cloth or towel over the area. If this results in fluff, the area should be excluded from suction so as to avoid a collision.

CAUTION!
Risk of injury/risk of damage to the appliance! For reasons of design within a room, it may be possible that the sensors of the robot vac-uum cleaner do not fully detect stairs and obstacles. There is the risk of blind spots within which the robot can fall down stairs or unsecured edges. -
Test in operation whether or not the robot vacuum cleaner detects stairs or other obsta-cles, particularly on very light or white high-gloss floors.

Do not use the robot vacuum cleaner to clean stairs, tables or shelves.

If necessary, set up additional barriers or define so-called “No go areas” using the Medi-on® Robot MD 188XX app to prevent damage to objects, walls, stairs or the appliance.

The stair height must be at least 8 cm.

Do not stand beneath unsecured edges or stairs when the appliance is in use.

Clean the sensors on the robot vacuum cleaner regularly.

Do not place the charging station close to heat sources.
Safe handling of rechargeable batteries
This appliance contains a lithium-ion battery block.

Batteries might explode when exposed to extreme heat.

Never throw the battery into a fire.

Never expose the battery to excessive heat such as direct sunlight, fire, strong artificial light or similar!

Do not take the battery apart or deform it. You could injure your hands or fingers, or bat-tery fluid could get into your eyes or onto your skin. If you do come into contact with the battery fluid, rinse the affected area with plenty of water and contact your doctor imme-diately.

Do not leave the battery in hot or cold places. Extreme temperatures impair the battery’s charging capacity.

Only operate the battery block at a room temperature of 10–40 °C.

Dispose of used batteries in an environmentally friendly manner
Battery disposal
The rechargeable battery is an integral component of the appliance and users
cannot dis-pose of the battery themselves.
- Therefore, dispose of the entire appliance (see section “Disposal”).
Safety instructions regarding the WLAN interfaces used
- Do not use the WLAN function of this product in the immediate vicinity of medical equip-ment or other electronic devices. Using the WLAN function in the vicinity of medical equipment or other electronic devices can impair their functionality.
- This product could receive interference from other devices that emit radio waves. To pre-vent interference, use this product as far away from such devices as possible or avoid us-ing such devices at the same time as this product.
Laser
- The robot vacuum cleaner is a Class 1 laser product. The appliance has a safety system that prevents dangerous laser beams from escaping during normal use. To avoid eye injuries, never tamper with or dam-age the appliance’s safety system and do not look directly into the la-ser beam.
- Do not point the laser beam at people or animals.

Using the appliance for the fi rst time
Attaching the cleaning brushes
The brushes supplied must be attached, if applicable, before the appliance is
used for the first time. The front cleaning brushes 9 and 15 can be pushed
into the holders provided and removed again.

- Press both tabs on the cover 13 to remove it.
- Insert the narrow side of the main brush in the opening provided and then place the wide end into the recess.
- Close the cover again.
Positioning the charging station
- Position the charging station on a wall close to a router with good WLAN reception or a WLAN re-peater.
- Please note that a clearance of 0.5 m to the sides and 1 m to the front is required.
- Connect the mains cable to the mains connection on the charging station.
- Insert the mains plug into the mains socket.
Charging the battery block
The robot vacuum cleaner is fitted with a lithium-ion battery block. After
unpacking the appliance, first charge the battery block for approx. 3 hours.
This benefits battery performance in the long run. The robot vacuum cleaner
must be fully charged, and can either be placed on the charging station
manually or return to the charging station independently.

Place the robot vacuum cleaner onto the charging station so that the charging contacts lie on top of each other.
- For the robot vacuum cleaner to return to the charging station independently, place it approx. 30 to 50 cm away from the charging station and press the 3 button. Once the robot vacuum cleaner has successfully reached the charging station, an acoustic signal sounds. The appliance is charged, charge level LED flashes.
When the battery block is fully charged, the LED lights up continuously. At the latest, the battery block must by charged when the charge level LED flashes.
- For the robot vacuum cleaner to return to the charging station independently, place it approx. 30 to 50 cm away from the charging station and press the 3 button. Once the robot vacuum cleaner has successfully reached the charging station, an acoustic signal sounds. The appliance is charged, charge level LED flashes.

Charge the battery block before the next cleaning operation. The robot vacuum cleaner auto-matically returns to the charging station if the battery level is low. This return to the charging sta-tion interrupts the cleaning process.If battery performance is drastically reduced, contact the Medion Service Centre.
Vacuum mode
To achieve the best cleaning performance, ensure that all loose objects
(curtains, clothing, paper, loose cables and extension cables) are removed
from the floor. It is also possible to operate the robot vacuum cleaner
without connecting to the Medi-on® Robot MD 188XX app. However, we recommend
establishing the connection to cre-ate a map. The map is required for the use
of the additional functions.To achieve the best cleaning performance, ensure
that all loose objects (curtains, clothing, paper, loose cables and extension
cables) are removed from the floor. The robot vacuum cleaner requires approx.
20 seconds until it is ready for use. During this initialisation phase, the
LED status indicators light up and the HOME, START/PAUSE button 3 pulse
slowly.
Use the HOME, START/PAUSE button to control your robot vacuum cleaner directly
on the appli-ance.
- Ensure that the dust container is clean and that the filter has been correctly inserted.
- Place the robot vacuum cleaner in an open space in the room.
- Move the On/Off switch 8 to the ON position and the appliance is ready for use.
- To start the cleaning operation, press the START/PAUSE button 3 . The button icon lights up and an acoustic signal will sound.As part of the cleaning operation, the robot vacuum cleaner divides the room into sub-sections it deems sensible and cleans them, starting with the edges and then cleaning the area in orderly lines. The robot vacuum cleaner cleans the entire accessible area. Cleaning operations started using the START/PAUSE button 3 only work if there is no local map stored in the robot vacuum cleaner or if the robot vacuum cleaner cannot locate itself in its stored map. Stored “No go areas” are disregarded during this type of cleaning operation.The cleaning task can be interrupted by pressing the START/PAUSE button 3 again. To resume the task, the START/PAUSE button must be pressed once again. When the HOME button is pressed during the cleaning operation, the task can be ended. In this case, the robot vacuum cleaner returns to the charging station.Upon completion of the cleaning operation, the robot vacuum cleaner returns to the charging station independently.The robot vacuum cleaner provides the following information via the LED status indicators:

NOTICE!
Risk of damage to property!
Loose cabling can become caught around your robot vacuum cleaner during vac-
uuming and be pulled by the appliance. This can result in appliances being
pulled off a table and consequently damaged.
- Lay cables out of the reach of the appliance.
This robot vacuum cleaner is not suitable for use on carpets, with the exception of very short-pile carpets.
Functions of the Medion® Robot MD 188XX app
The following functions are available with the Medion® Robot MD 188XX app:
- Use virtual restricted zones to keep the robot vacuum cleaner out of entire rooms or living areas.
- Real-time display of the cleaning operation on a map.
- 3 vacuum power level settings.
- Schedule (day/time) for regular cleaning tasks.
- Start or stop the cleaning operation via the app.
- Install new firmware for the robot vacuum cleaner, so that the robot vacuum cleaner always uses up-to-date firmware.
- As well as numerous additional functions
Connecting the robot vacuum cleaner to a smartphone/tablet
- Download the MEDION® Robot MD 188XX app from the Google Play Store (for Android devices) or the App Store (for iPhones) to your smartphone/tablet and install the app.
- If you have installed a QR code reader on your smartphone/tablet, you can use the QR code to the left to download the app.
When it is used for the first time, the robot vacuum cleaner must be in the charging cradle and the charging cradle itself must be close to the internet router or a WLAN repeater.
- Switch on both location services and the Bluetooth® function as well as the WLAN function on your smartphone/tablet and start the Medion® Robot MD 188XX app.
- Follow the instructions shown in the app.
Exploratory trip
As part of the Medion® Robot MD 188XX app set-up process, when indexing new
rooms, the robot vacuum cleaner performs an exploratory trip.
- Move all obstacles out of the way before starting the exploratory trip.
- Open all doors so that the robot vacuum cleaner can create a complete map. All rooms that are not explored, cannot be cleaned by the robot vacuum cleaner.
- Ensure that the dust container is clean and that the filter has been correctly inserted.
- The duration of the exploratory trip depends on the living environment. For 100 m², the robot vacuum cleaner requires approx. 20 minutes.
- The camera on the laser unit is designed only for the evaluation of reflected laser signals to create maps and it does not detect images in the conventional sense.
- Once the robot vacuum cleaner has returned to the charging station, the exploratory trip is complete and the additional functions can be used with the app.
NOTICE!
Risk of damage!
For reasons of design within a room, it may be possible that the sensors of
the ro-bot vacuum cleaner do not fully detect stairs and obstacles.
- Test in operation whether or not the robot vacuum cleaner detects stairs or other obstacles.
- If necessary, set up additional barriers to prevent damage to objects, walls, stairs or the appliance or alternatively define so-called “No go areas” via the Medion® Robot MD 188XX app.

Cleaning and care
DANGER!
Risk of electric shock!
There is a risk of electric shock/short circuit from live parts.
- Never immerse the robot vacuum cleaner, charging station or mains adapter in water or other liquids! Only clean the appliance and all accessories with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Move the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position and pull the mains plug out of the socket before cleaning and maintenance as well as before assembly or disas-sembly of the accessories.
Your robot vacuum cleaner is easy to clean and maintain. Empty the dust container and clean the dust filter after every use. Clean the suction openings as required.
- Do not use any solvents or caustic/gaseous cleaning agents to clean the appliance’s surfaces. Wipe the surface of the robot vacuum cleaner and the charging station with a damp cloth.
- Clean the surfaces of the sensors and charging contacts with a clean, dry cloth.
Cleaning the dust container
We recommend emptying the dust container 6 and cleaning the filter after every
use. Carry out the following steps:
- Open the cover on the top of the robot vacuum cleaner using the recess 4 .
- Remove the dust container by pressing the unlocking mechanism in both recessed grips. The recessed grips are at the front and back on the top of the dust container.
- Open the dust container lid 17 and empty it over a dustbin.
- Rinse the dust container with water if necessary. It is not necessary to rinse with water every time. Never put the dust container in the dishwasher!There is a filter on the inside of the lid, which must also be cleaned.
- Remove the dust filter frame 19 as well as the dust filter 18 and rinse the filter.
- When the dust container and filters are dry again, reinsert the filters.
- Reinsert the dust container and close the lid of the robot vacuum cleaner.
- Before using the appliance for the first time, ensure that the filter has been inserted correctly in the dust container.
Cleaning the suction opening
After a while, dirt and dust can collect around the suction opening and can
reduce the vacuum power. To avoid this, the suction opening should be cleaned
regularly.
- Switch off the appliance.
- emove the main brush 12 by pressing both tabs on the cover 13 on the underside of the ro-bot vacuum cleaner.
- Remove dust and dirt on and in the suction opening.
Cleaning the brushes
We rcommend that the brushes are cleaned regularly. Please carry out the
following steps:
- Switch off the appliance and place it upside down onto a flat surface with the bottom of the ap-pliance facing upwards.
- Hold both cleaning brushes 9 and 15 firmly and pull them straight up to remove them from the appliance.
- Use the supplied cleaning tool to clean the side brushes and the main brush. It is intend-ed for removing dirt, dust and hairs.
- After cleaning, reattach the brushes.
- After a while, the brushes will need to be replaced to ensure the appliance works efficiently. Please contact our Service Centre for more information on replaceable accessories.
If the brushes bend, it may help to place the brushes in hot water to encourage them to return to their original shape.
Cleaning the sensors
The robot vacuum cleaner has one sensor on the front 5 and four sensors
underneath 10 .
- Clean the front sensor cover and the covers of the lower sensors regularly using a soft cloth to ensure the best orientation of the robot vacuum cleaner possible.
Cleaning the front wheel
- If the front wheel is blocked, remove the wheel and clean the dirt from it using a damp cloth.
- Reinsert the front wheel until it clicks into place.
Reset to factory settings

Press and hold the START/PAUSE button 3 for approx. 10 seconds to reset the robot vacu- um cleaner.All operating lights turn off for approx. 1–2 seconds.
The robot vacuum cleaner is restarted and all operating lights turn on again.- When the appliance is reset to factory settings, all stored map information is deleted. The connection to the app must be re-established and an exploratory trip must be performed to create a new map.
Troubleshooting
If the appliance stops working properly, please refer to the troubleshooting table shown below to see if you can resolve the problem yourself. Never attempt to repair the appliance yourself. If a repair is necessary, please contact our Service Centre or a suitable authorised repair workshop.

Disposal
PACKAGING
Your appliance has been packaged to protect it from damage in transit. The
packaging is made of materials that can be recycled in an environmentally
friendly manner.
APPLIANCE
Old appliances that carry the symbol illustrated may not be disposed of in
ordinary household waste. In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU, these
appliances must be disposed of correctly at the end of their service life.
This involves separating the materials in the appliances for the purpose of
recycling and minimising the environmental impact. Take old appliances to a
collection point for electrical scrap or a recycling centre. Contact your
local waste disposal company or your local authority for more information on
this subject.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

General Warranty Conditions
General information
The warranty period is 24 months and begins on the day the product is purchased. The warranty covers all types of material and product damage that could occur during normal use. Please keep your original proof of purchase in a safe place. The warranty provider reserves the right to refuse to confirm the status of the warranty or to carry out a repair under warranty if a valid proof of purchase cannot be produced. If it is necessary to return your device for repair, please ensure that it is suitably packaged for trans-portation. Unless otherwise specified, you shall bear the costs for sending the device and the trans-port risk. The warranty provider does not assume any liability for additional materials sent with the product that do not belong to the original package contents supplied with the product. Please enclose as much information as possible about the fault when sending the device to the warranty provider. In order to make a valid claim under warranty and before returning the device, please contact the Service Hotline operated by the warranty provider or the Service Portal. They will provide you with information on how to proceed further. This warranty has no effect on your statutory warranty rights and is subject to the laws of the coun-try in which the first purchase of the product was made by the end customer.
Scope
In the event of a fault on your product that is covered by this warranty, the
warranty provider guar-antees to repair or replace the product. The decision
about whether to repair or replace the device is taken by the warranty
provider. Therefore, the warranty provider can at its own discretion decide to
replace a device submitted for repair under warranty with a refurbished device
of the same qual-ity.
No warranty is provided for batteries or rechargeable batteries or for
consumable materials i.e. parts which have to be replaced at regular intervals
during the normal use of the product e.g. video pro-jector lamps. A pixel
error (permanently coloured, light or dark point in an image) is not generally
considered a fault. Please refer to the information provided in the manual for
this product for the precise number of permissible defects in the image. The
warranty provider gives no warranty for burnt-in images on plasma or LCD
devices that resultfrom the improper use of the device. Please refer to the
information provided in the manual for this product for precise instructions
on operating your plasma or LCD device. The warranty does not cover errors
relating to the playback of data media that have been created in an
incompatible format or as a result of using unsuitable software. If it is
discovered during the repair that the fault concerned is not covered under
warranty, the war-ranty provider reserves the right to invoice the customer
for the costs already incurred in the form of a flat-rate handling charge, as
well as to charge the customer for the materials and labour re-quired for the
repair after submitting a cost estimate. You will be informed in advance as
the cus-tomer about these repair charges; you are responsible for accepting or
rejecting the repair process.
Exclusions
Malfunctions and damage to the device caused by external influences, accidental damage, improp-er use, changes made to the product, modifications, upgrades, the use of third-party parts, neglect, viruses or software faults, improper transport, improper packaging or loss during the return of the product are not covered by the warranty issued by the warranty provider. The warranty will be invalidated if the fault to the device is caused by maintenance or repair carried out by someone other than a service partner authorized by the warranty provider. The warranty will also be invalidated if labels or serial numbers on the device or a component of the device have been modified or made illegible.
Service Hotline
Before sending the device to the warranty provider, you must contact us via the Service Hotline or the Service Portal. This ensures that you receive further information on how to make a valid claim under warranty. The use of the hotline may be subject to a charge. The Service Hotline should under no circumstances be considered a substitute for user training for software and hardware or reading the manual , nor does it provide support for third-party products.
Special warranty conditions for PC, notebook, pocket PC (PDA), devices with navigation functions (PNA), telephone devices, mobile telephones and devices with a memory function
Should any of the supplied options (e.g. memory cards, etc.) have a fault, you are entitled to a repair or replacement. The warranty covers material and labour costs for restoring the functionality of the product concerned. The warranty can be invalidated if any damage to the product itself or the supplied options results from the addition of any hardware to your product that is not produced or distributed by the war-ranty provider. A limited warranty is provided for supplied software. This applies to a pre-installed operating sys-tem and also to supplied programs. For software supplied with the device by the warranty provider, a warranty is issued that any data media, e.g. discs and CD-ROMs on which the software is supplied, shall be free from faults in terms of their materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days follow-ing purchase. In the event of a faulty data medium being supplied, the warranty provider shall re-place the faulty data medium free of charge; any further claims are excluded. Excluding the warran-ty for data media, all software is supplied without warranty. Furthermore, it is not warranted that this software shall function without interruption or errors or that it will meet your requirements. In the case of map material supplied for a device with navigation functions, no warranty is provided for its completeness. It may be necessary to delete all data from the device in order to repair it. Please ensure that you have a backup copy for all of the data on the device before sending back the device. We expressly point out that the factory settings will be restored in the event of a repair. The warranty provider as-sumes no liability for the cost of a software configuration, lost revenue, loss of data or software, or other consequential damages.
Special warranty conditions for repair on site or replacement on site
If there is an entitlement to on-site repair or replacement, the specific warranty terms and condi-tions for on-site repair or replacement shall apply to your product. The following provisions must be ensured by you for carrying out repairs or replacements on site:
- Personnel from the warranty provider who arrive at your premises for the above-mentioned pur-pose must have unrestricted, safe and immediate access to the devices.
- Telecommunication facilities required by these personnel for the proper execution of your or-der, for testing and diagnostic purposes or for remedying faults must be provided by you at your own expense.
• You shall be personally responsible for restoring your own application software after completion of the service by the warranty provider.
• You shall be personally responsible for configuring and connecting any existing external devices after completion of the service by the warranty provider.
• The free cancellation period for repairs or replacements on site is at least 48 hours, thereafter we shall invoice you for any costs resulting from a late or missing cancellation.
