Before first use:

Check that all parts and accessories are present and that the unit is not damaged. Fill the water tank to the maximum fill line. Run the filter coffee machine several times, using only water. Do not add coffee. Discard the used water. Clean and dry all detachable parts thoroughly, following the instructions in the Cleaning and maintenance section.

Using your filter coffee machine:

  1. Open the top cover and fill the water tank with cold drinking water. The filter coffee machine can brew a maximum of eight cups of coffee every brewing cycle.
NOTE: Do not overfill the water tank. Ensure it remains below the indicated maximum fill level.

  2. Place the funnel into the funnel holder and then add the filter.

  3. Add ground coffee into the filter. To brew one cup of coffee you will need roughly one level spoonful of ground coffee, but you can adjust this according to your own preferences. Replace the top cover.

  4. Place the thermo jug (with its lid on) onto the base. Ensure that the centre of the jug aligns with the middle of the funnel.

  5. Plug in the filter coffee machine.

  6. Switch the machine on. The indicator light will come on and the brewing process will begin. The process can be interrupted by pressing the button. The indicator light will go off, showing that the brewing process has stopped. Once the button is pressed again, the appliance will continue to brew.
NOTE: the appliance is designed with a pause-and-serve feature. At any time during the brewing cycle, you can temporarily remove the thermo jug to pour a cup of hot coffee. The brewing cycle will not be interrupted and no coffee will drip from the appliance. Simply replace the thermo jug on the warming plate to restart the brewing cycle. Do not take the jug away for longer than 30 seconds and never return an empty jug to a hot warming plate.

  7. Remove the thermo jug to pour coffee when the brewing process is complete.
NOTE: The volume of coffee you will end up with will be less than the water you began with, as some water is absorbed by the ground coffee during the brewing process.

  8. Always turn the filter coffee machine off and unplug it when not in use.

CAUTION: Insulating plate is subject to residual heat after use.

Cleaning and maintenance

CAUTION: Unplug the appliance before cleaning. Do not immerse any part of the unit in water or other liquids.

  1. Clean all detachable parts after each use in hot, soapy water.

  2. Wipe down external surfaces with a soft, damp cloth.
NOTE: Do not attempt to clean the inside of the water tank, as this can leave a residue of lint and may clog your filter coffee machine.
Simply rinse periodically with cold water.

  3. Water droplets may build up in the area above the funnel and drip onto the filter coffee machine’s base during brewing. Wipe the area down with a clean, dry cloth after each use.

  4. Reattach all accessories.
NOTE: Jug is not dishwasher safe. Funnel is dishwasher safe.

Descaling the filter coffee machine

To keep your filter coffee machine operating efficiently, you must descale it regularly.

  1. Fill the tank with water and descaler at a 4:1 ratio. Do not fill beyond the maximum level indicated on the gauge. Use a standard household descaler. You may also use highly diluted citric acid at a ratio of 100:3.
  2. Put the thermo jug onto the warming plate.
  3. Ensure that the filter and funnel are in place. Do not add coffee.
  4. Switch on the appliance and allow it to brew the descaling solution.
  5. After going through a one-cup brewing process, switch off the appliance.
  6. Leave the solution for 15 minutes.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6.
  8. Switch on the appliance and let the solution run through until the water tank is completely empty.
  9. Rinse by running the brewing process with water at least three times.

Tips for great-tasting coffee:

  1. A clean filter coffee machine is essential for making great-tasting coffee. Regularly clean the filter coffee machine as specified in the cleaning and maintenance section. Always use fresh, cold water to brew coffee.
  2. Store unused ground coffee in a cool, dry place. After opening a package of coffee powder, reseal it tightly and store it in a refrigerator to maintain its freshness.
  3. For the best-tasting coffee, buy whole coffee beans and grind them just before brewing.
  4. Do not re-use coffee as this will greatly reduce its flavour.
  5. Clean the filter coffee machine when over-extraction causes oiliness. Small oil droplets on the surface of brewed, black coffee come from ground coffee.
  6. Oiliness may occur more frequently if heavily-roasted coffees are used.
