Hand off tasks between iPhone and your Mac

Continue working on one device where you left off on another. You can use Handoff with many Apple apps—for example, Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, and Contacts—and even some third-party apps. To use Handoff, you need to be signed in with the same Apple ID on all your devices. Your devices need to have Bluetooth turned on in Settings and be within Bluetooth range of one another (about 33 feet or 10 meters).

Switch devices

  • From Mac to iPhone:Open the App Switcher on iPhone. The Handoff icon of the app you’re using on your Mac appears at the bottom of the iPhone screen. Tap the Handoff icon to continue working in the app.
  • From iPhone to Mac: The Handoff icon of the app you’re using on iPhone appears in the Dock on your Mac. Click the Handoff icon to continue working in the app.

Disable Handoff on your devices

  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Go to Settings  , then tap General > AirPlay & Handoff.
  • Mac: Choose Apple Menu > System Preferences > General, then turn off “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.”
