Helpful Hints

TOAST/BAGEL

  1. Exact toasting settings are difficult to recommend due to personal preference.
  2. When making a second batch of toast you may need to change the shade setting to a lighter setting than on the first batch to achieve the same results.
  3. Toasting results will vary depending on thickness, texture, and moisture. Thicker, fresher bread, pastries and foods containing fillings will require a darker setting.
  4. Place bagels cut side up on the Wire Rack.

BROIL

  1. Trim excess fat from meats to reduce splatter and dry wet foods with a paper towel before inserting in the Oven.
  2. For even broiling, turn food over about halfway through the cooking cycle.
  3. Broiled food should be watched carefully to avoid overcooking and burning.

WARM

Use this function to keep already cooked and heated items warmed. This function can also be used to cook or reheat foods that are cold.

SEAR/STEAK

This is a high-temperature setting.
This program is designed to cook 2cm (3/4”) thick beef to perfection. This function can also be used to sear thick roasts or any other meats.

  2. Using the Selector Knob, choose a desired cooking preference for steaks.
    • NOTE: cook times below are for cooking at 730ºF and are for reference only. When selecting the desired doneness, add 10 minutes to the below cooking time for preheating the Reversible Cast Iron Pizza Stone/Grill. For example, if you want meat cooked medium well, the cooking time should be 12 minutes 30 seconds (10 minutes for preheating the Reversible Cast Iron Pizza Stone/Grill and 2 minutes 30 seconds for actual cook time.)
  3. Let the Oven preheat with the Reversible Cast Iron Pizza Stone/Grill inside.
  4. Once preheated, Open the Oven, pull out the wire rack a little bit and quickly but carefully add your beef on the Reversible Cast Iron Pizza Stone/Grill. The Oven is very hot, and you want to maintain the heat inside the Oven.

Frozen

Frozen pizza typically has a crust that’s soft on the inside and crispy on the outside after baking. The toppings are usually well-preserved and maintain their original texture and flavor. Use this cooking Pizza Program for store- bought, frozen pizza.

Thin & Crispy

This is a high-temperature setting. Thin & crispy pizzas have a thin, delicate crust that is incredibly crisp and crunchy. The toppings are thinly spread and cooked quickly to maintain their freshness and provide a satisfying cush with each bite.

New York Style

This is a high-temperature setting. New York-style pizza features a thin, foldable crust that’s slightly chewy and pliable. The outer edge is crisp, and the center is soft and foldable. The toppings are generous, and the cheese is often gooey and melty.

Wood Fire

This is a high-temperature setting. Wood-fired pizza is cooked traditionally in a wood-burning oven, resulting in thin, blistered crust with a slightly charred, smoky flavor. The crust is both crispy and tender, and the toppings often include fresh ingredients like tomatoes, basil and mozzarella.

Deep Dish

This is a high-temperature setting. Deep dish pizza is known for its thick, buttery and flaky crust that lines a deep pan. The crust is soft and doughy, providing a heartly base for ample layers of cheese, toppings and chunky tomato sauce. This style is hearty and satisfying, with a rich, indulgent texture.

Proof

Allows the dough to rise and ferment in a controlled, warm environment set at a low temperature.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PIZZA MAKING

Use high-quality ingredients

Start with the best-quality ingredients you can find. This includes fresh tomatoes or good-quality tomato sauce, high-quality cheese (such as mozzarella), and fresh herbs and vegetables.

Homemade dough

Consider making your pizza dough from scratch. Homemade dough allows you to control the texture and flavor of your crust. There are many simple and delicious pizza dough recipes available online.

Proper dough handling

When working with pizza dough, handle it gently to avoid overworking it. Let it rest for a few minutes after kneading to make it easier to stretch or roll out.

Roll or stretch the dough evenly

Whether you’re using a rolling pin or your hands, aim for an even thickness when shaping your dough. A thicker crust in one area and a thinner one in another can result in uneven cooking.

Purchase a Salton pizza peel

A pizza peel is a handy tool for launching pizzas into the Oven. It’s a flat, paddle like utensil with a handle. You can build your pizza on the peel, then slide/launch onto the hot Cast Iron Stone in the Oven. No pizza peel, no problem!

Build your pizza on:

a) a rimless cookie sheet
b) a rimmed baking sheet flipped upside down
c) parchment paper
d) stiff piece of cardboard
e) cutting board

When the Oven is ready, transfer it onto the hot Cast Iron Stone in the Oven. DO NOT leave the pizza on cardboard or parchment paper. It will burn and catch fire.

Use cornmeal or flour for easy transfer

Sprinkle some cornmeal or flour on your pizza peel or baking sheet before placing the dough on it. This prevents sticking and makes it easier to slide the pizza onto the hot Stone

Check the pizza’s mobility

Shake the pizza peel gently to ensure the pizza slides freely on the cornmeal or flour. It if doesn’t, lift the edges of the dough and add more cornmeal or flour underneath.

Preheat the Oven and Cast Iron Pizza Stone

Preheat the Oven with the Cast Iron Pizza Stone inside. The Stone helps create a crispier crust by evenly distributing heat. Preheating ensures a hot Oven, which is essential for a good pizza bake.

Keep toppings balanced

Don’t overload your pizza with toppings, as it can make the crust soggy. Aim for a balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings to ensure even cooking.

Experiment with toppings

Be creative with your toppings! Try different combinations of vegetables, meats, and cheeses to discover your favorite flavors.

Watch the Oven closely

Keep a close eye on your pizza while it’s baking. Cooking times can vary depending on the thickness of your crust. Rotate the pizza if needed for even cooking.

Let it rest before slicing

Allow your pizza to rest for a few minutes after baking. This allows the cheese and toppings to set and makes it easier to slice without everything sliding off.

Experiment and have fun

Pizza-making is an art, and everyone has their preferences. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different dough recipes, sauces, and toppings to find your perfect homemade pizza. Remember that practice makes perfect, so don’t get discouraged if your first few attempts aren’t exactly as you envisioned. Enjoy the process, and soon you’ll be making delicious homemade pizzas with confidence!

CARE AND CLEANING

A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
