ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Circular knitting needle size 10.5 (6.5 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long Double
pointed needles size 10.5 (6.5 mm)
GAUGE
14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in K1, p1 Rib, slightly stretched.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (worked over an even number of sts)
Rnd 1: K1, p1; rep from to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Rnd 2 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.
NOTES
1. Beanie is worked in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds from lower edge upwards.
2. Decreases are worked to shape top of Beanie.
3. Work begins on circular needle, then changes to double pointed needles
when stitches have been sufficiently decreased.
BEANIE
With circular needle, cast on 70 sts.
Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle
with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to
twist sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm)
from beg.
Shape Top
Note: Change to double pointed needles as you work Rnd 1.
Rnd 1: K1, p1, k1, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k2tog; rep from around – you will
have 56 sts in this rnd.
Rnd 2: K1, p1, k2, p1, k1, (p1, k2) twice; rep from to last 4 sts, (p1, k1)
twice.
Rnd 3: K1, p1, k2tog, p1, k1, p2tog; rep from around – 42 sts.
Rnd 4: K1, p1; rep from around.
Rnd 5: K1, k2tog, p1, k2tog; rep from around – 28 sts.
Rnd 6: K2, p1, k3; rep from to last 2 sts, p1, k1.
Rnd 7: K2tog, p2tog; rep from around – 14 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts. Pull
tail to close opening at top of Beanie.
Knot securely.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
