SOFTENING BAGS
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
OSCAR Water Softening Bags (OSCAR Bags) soften water in your coffee machine’s water tank, reducing limescale build-up. The OSCAR Bag is suitable for all Dualit pump espresso coffee machines with water tanks and comes in two different sizes.
IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Read all instructions before using the OSCAR Bag in your Dualit Coffee Machine.
- Always follow these safety precautions when using this accessory to avoid personal injury or damage to the accessory or
- This accessory should be used only as described in these instructions.

Never allow OSCAR Bag to come into contact with the descaling solution. For more information on descaling your Dualit Coffee Machine visit com/products/machine-care
- DO NOT use in kettles, percolators, or any device which will elevate the OSCAR Bag beyond room temperature.
HOW TO USE THE OSCAR BAG
- Before filling the water tank, ensure the appliance is unplugged from the mains.
- Remove the OSCAR Bag from the plastic outer packet and dispose of the packaging.
- Rinse the OSCAR Bag under cold water.
- Place the OSCAR Bag into the bottom of the empty coffee machine tank, then fill it with water.
- Always remove the tank from the machine prior to filling it with water, to prevent the risk of electric shock.
- TIP: If this is also the coffee machine’s first use, please refer to your Coffee Machine Instruction Manual for further information on how to use the machine.
- TIP: If this is a pre-used machine, you may want to descale your machine before using the OSCAR Bag.
- To achieve optimal softening performance from the OSCAR Bags, fill the tank with water the night before use, to give it time to soften.
- See TABLE I below to show you how much water you may need. Depending on usage, fill only as much as you need, in order to save water and reduce the time for the softening process to take effect.
TABLE I

- For regular use (ie. daily) any unused water left in the tank does not need to be poured away and refilled before each use. Keep the water in the tank and simply top up so that the harder water is being diluted by the softened water.
- For irregular use (ie weekends only) pour away unused water and immediately refill from the tap the evening before planned use.
- It is important that the OSCAR Bag always remains in the water and does not dry out; if resin dries it will no longer work.
- See TABLE II below to help you know how much water you need.
TABLE I1

- If you use only what you need it takes a significantly shorter time to soften the water.
- You must continue to descale your machine once a month. Review your Coffee Machine Instruction Manual or visit dualism/accessories for descaler recommendations.
- TIP: Whilst descaling, you may wish to put the OSCAR Bag into a container of water to start the softening process ready to pour into your machine. Ensure you replace the OSCAR Bag into the water tank, after all, descale solution has been rinsed from the tank and flushed from the machine. Risk of chemical ingestion. Never allow OSCAR Bag to come into contact with the descaling solution.

HOW THE OSCAR BAG WORKS
OSCAR stands for Osmotic Scale Reduction. By means of ionic exchange, OSCAR replaces calcium and magnesium ions present, in both their soluble and insoluble forms in the drinking water, with sodium ions.
- In particular, higher total water hardness corresponds to a higher quantity of sodium in the water. This quantity is rendered in milligrams/liter and therefore in a very modest quantity in conformity not only with the provisions of 1935/2004/EC and 98/83/EC but also with the World Health Organization guidelines.
- Maximum ceding of sodium – 5 mg/l.
- OSCAR is an innovative descaling device for domestic and office hot beverage dispensers. The mechanism applies the osmotic process of the saline solution to eliminate the calcium and magnesium deposits that remain inside boilers and heating elements.
- Made in Italy. Passive operation. Food Safety 18 months from the date of installation. Disposal code C.E.R 19/9/2005
