OWNER’S MANUAL
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Kustom Deep End Series bass amplifier. This model utilizes an exclusive preamp design that combines a 12AX7 tube, known for its robust tonal qualities, with solid-state circuitry that provides consistency of performance and reliability. The result is a rich, dynamic tone that is perfect for a wide variety of playing styles and environments. Inside this manual, you’ll find details about your Deep End Series model. Everyone at Kustom wishes you many years of enjoyment with your new amplifier.
-
Inputs – these are 1/4-inch, 2-conductor input jacks for plugging in your instruments. They are intended for bass guitars, but will accept other instruments as well.
-
0 dB/-10 dB Switch – these are pad switches used to reduce the input gain for active basses.
Use the O dB position for passive basses. Use the -10 dB position for basses with active electronics or high output. -
Input Select – use this switch to choose which input will play through the amplifier. Two instruments may be connected, but only the selected input will be heard through your speakers.
-
Tube Gain – adjust this control clockwise to increase the amount of gain. Set this control in its lower ranges to achieve the cleanest tones. As this control is turned clockwise, you’ll begin to hear the grit and growl of a classic overdriven tube amp. At maximum settings, thicker, more aggressive tones are produced. Note: Gain is applied to the tube stage before the tone controls.
-
Bass – this passive control adjusts the low-frequency equalization of the amplifier.
-
Mid – this passive control adjusts the mid-range frequency equalization of the amplifier.
-
Treble – this passive control adjusts the high-frequency equalization of the amplifier.
-
Low Contour Room EQ – this active control is the final shaping for low frequencies. Increasing this control cuts a notch in the low frequencies to help smooth out room “boominess”. Decreasing this control rolls off the extreme low frequencies.
-
High Contour Room EQ – this active control is the final shaping for high frequencies. Increasing this control cuts a notch in the high frequencies to help smooth out typical speaker peaks or room “harshness”. This can be a useful way to control the horn level.
-
Master – this controls the overall volume level of the amplifier. Note: Your DE1200HD features an exclusive Kustom Class D Amplifier. This power amplifier is specially designed for generating lower order, musical harmonics, and smooth limiting characteristics. It is also capable of extreme sound pressure levels, so user caution is advised!
-
Power – this switch turns the AC power to the amplifier On and Off.
-
AC POWER CORD RECEPTACLE: Insert the AC cord included with your amplifier here. Insert cord firmly into AC Power Cord Receptacle. Replace the AC cord if the protective jacket or ground pin is damaged or removed.
-
FUSE: The fuse is located in a fuse tray just below the receptacle. Replace only with the same type and size. For your convenience, a spare fuse is located inside the fuse tray toward the front. To replace the fuse, remove AC power cord. Remove the fuse tray by pulling the tab located above the fuse symbol away from the receptacle.
-
Speaker Outputs – these are 1/4-inch & Neutrik 1/4″ speak-on combo jacks. Rating is 1200 watts, 4 Ohms minimum impedance. For full power, use a 4-0hm speaker load. Higher impedance loads will result in lower power levels to the speaker.
-
Preamp In – this switching, 2-conductor, 1/4-inch line-level input jack is the input to the power amp.
By using this jack, the signal path from the preamp to the power amp is broken. -
Preamp Out – this 2-conductor, 1/4-inch line-level output jack is the preamp output and it does not break the signal path between the power amp and the preamp. The front panel Gain and tone controls do affect the output at this jack. The output at this jack is not speaker-emulated, so this may not be a good choice as a substitute for mic-ing the amp.
-
Effects Loop Return -this switching, 2-conductor, 1/4-inch line-level input jack is the return from an external signal processor such as a digital delay or EQ. By using this jack, you break the signal path between the Effects Send and Return.
-
Effects Loop Send – this switching, 2-conductor, 1/4-inch line-level input jack is sent to an external signal processor. It can also be used as a preamp output and it does not break the signal path between the Effects Send and Return.
-
Speaker Emulator – this switch activates a special signal conditioning circuit which allows the Balanced Line Out to have the characteristics of a Deep End amplifier as heard by a bassist standing in front of the amp, capturing the unique tonality of the amplifier/speaker combination.
-
Pre/Post EQ – this switch selects the Balanced Line Out signal to be taken before or after the EQ circuit.
-
Balanced Line Out -this XLR jack is used to connect the amplifier to a mixer or another line-level amplifier. The output at this jack is selected to be Pre/Post EQ switch.
-
Tuner Out – use this jack to connect to a tuner or other instrument-level device. This jack is always active and is a post-Gain, pre EQ output.
