AUDIUM FH10 Comp Loudspeakers
Dear Music Lover,
Thank you very much for having bought a AUDIUM loudspeaker!
AUDIUM Products represent innovative technology and an excellent level of
production skills with only one goal: to bring you the heart and soul of
music. To make sure that you get the maximum out of your AUDIUM product, we
strongly advise you to read this manual carefully. It will only take a few
moments.
Handling and Care of the Loudspeakers
Burn-In: Loudspeakers are equipped with movable parts. Thus they require a
specific “Burn-In time” until these parts can move in the required tolerance
range. After this period, the loudspeakers can develop their full acoustic
potential. For the burn-in of your new AUDIUM loudspeakers, you should play
back music signals with a very broad frequency spectrum for 1-2 days.
Preferably you can use a special Burn-In CD (containing pink noise signal) or
you radio receiver after tuning it to an unassigned frequency.
Care: For cleaning, use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Please avoid
aggressive cleaning agents as well as special furniture polishes or any other
cleaning fluids. Dust from the chassis can be removed gently by using a fine
furniture brush. Avoid touching the chassis and membranes.
Warranty Information
For being independent of your regional dealer/distributor we strictly recommend using our international warranty registration. So please visit http://www.audium.com/registration/to register your Loudspeaker. Within your registration, we are offering you an international worldwide warranty under the regulations of AUDIUM.
Unpacking and Preparing the Loudspeakers
The AUDIUM speakers are delivered in separate cartons. After opening them, remove the poly-foam protection elements and the black textile bag. Do not dispose of the packaging – you can carry the speakers in a safe way only when using the original packaging.
- Spikes: AUDIUM floor speakers radiate sound best when the front baffle is inclined for a few degrees. Therefore screw the front spikes for 5mm, and the rear spikes totally into the designated winding drills. Take care that the speaker has a steady position. Finally, tighten the spikes with the appropriate screw-nuts.
- Dust-Caps: The loudspeakers are equipped with dust-caps per default. These are simply attached to the speaker front and can be removed with low force by pulling them off if you desire. Even though these dust-caps have been designed according to acoustic aspects, the best sound performance can be achieved when they are removed from the loudspeakers.
Placement of the Loudspeakers
The placement of loudspeakers is very important for the quality of the resulting sound.
- Listening Position: As shown in Fig. 1, both speakers and the listening position span up a triangle with two equal sides of length B and the third side of length A. The distance A between the loudspeakers must not exceed the distance B between the loudspeakers and your listening position. Additionally, distance A should be at least 6.5 feet.
- Position within the room: Due to physical reasons, a positioning of a loudspeaker near a wall at a distance of less than 2.5 feet causes a gain in the bass and low-level frequencies. By changing this distance, you can adjust the intensity of bass reproduction according to the properties of your listening room and your personal taste. Don’t hesitate to experiment and let your ear decide which location sounds best!
- Angle the speakers: Let the front baffle of the speaker point to your listening position while still showing the inner side wall of the speaker cabinet.
Connecting the Loudspeakers
AUDIUM loudspeakers are equipped with a Bi-Wiring terminal (see Fig. 2), allowing three different modes of operation (see Fig. 3). The configurations vary in the achievable degree of fidelity. For Bi-Wired or Bi-Amplified configuration remove the metal bridges from the bi-wiring terminal!
- Standard: Each loudspeaker is connected to the amplifier through a single loudspeaker cable. Therefore, the bridges have to be placed on the bi-wiring terminal (see Fig. 2).
- Bi-Wired: Each loudspeaker is connected to the Amp via two speaker cables (one for the full range, one for the woofer).
- Bi-Amplified: The full-range and woofer-chassis of the loudspeakers are connected to two amplifiers with separate cables.
Room adaptation of the integrated Subwoofer
As mentioned on page 3 the placement of the speaker is a major issue in bass reproduction. In acoustically unfavorable rooms the bass can dominate music and lose precision. In this case it can be helpful to close the bass-reflex tunnel on the backside of the speaker with the delivered foam plastic plug (see fig. 4). This reduces the sonic radiation through the bass-reflex tube thus resulting in lower room stimulation.
