Regular cleaning and care of the heater plate is essential for ensuring consistent ironing results, as well as for protecting the roller motors and padding. Without regular care, the ironer’s performance will be significantly reduced.

The heater plate can become rough due to limescale, detergent and starch residue deposits. This means that the laundry cannot be passed easily through the ironer. In addition, increased friction leads to greater wear on the drive elements and the roller padding. To prevent this, the heater plate must be cleaned and waxed at regular intervals.

The heater plate on ironers that are being used for 8-hour shifts must be cleaned 2–3 times a week. Always wax the heater plate after cleaning. Furthermore, the heater plate should be waxed after approx. 8 operating hours. This should be carried out before starting work.

For new ironers, the heater plate should be cleaned and waxed at shorter intervals. Shorter cleaning intervals may also be required if there is increased foreign matter contamination in the environment.

The heater plate must also be cleaned if the ironed laundry is being soiled by burnt plastics (e.g. buttons), detergent and starch residues or limescale on the heater plate. It will also need to be cleaned if starch deposits form on the laundry pickers.

Cleaning the heater plate

The Miele cleaning cloth (Mat. no. 03 909 300) can be used if the heater plate is soiled with starch residues or limescale, for example. Since the cleaning cloth is narrower than the heater plate, you cannot clean the entire width of the heater plate by feeding the cloth through once. You need to feed the cloth through the ironer several times, and move it from side to side.Miele Heater

  • Set the temperature to the • temperature range or, if applicable, set the cleaning programme on the ironer (up to a maximum of 100 °C, see the operating instructions).
Tip: You can loosen incrustations such as starch residues by feeding a cloth soaked in lukewarm water through the ironer first.

  • Lay the cleaning cloth on the left side of the infeed table with the cleaning strip facing the heater plate.

  • Feed the cleaning cloth evenly and straight from the left side of the infeed table through the ironer until it comes all the way out on the other side.
The cleaning strip loosens the soiling. The softer cotton strip removes the soiling and polishes the heater plate.

  • Lay the cleaning cloth back on the infeed table, but this time move it slightly to the right. The cleaning and cotton strips are facing the heater plate again.

  • Feed the cleaning cloth through the ironer again.

  • Repeat the process until you reach the right side of the infeed table and the entire width of the heater plate has been cleaned.

Replacing the used cleaning strip

  • Remove the used cleaning strip from the cleaning cloth pocket.
After removing the cleaning strip, you can wash the cleaning cloth (Cottons 95 °C).

  • Cut a new cleaning strip (approx. length of 210 mm) from the cleaning mat Mat. no.
    03 987 592.
A total of three new cleaning strips can be cut from the cleaning mat (Mat .no. 03 987 592).

  • Insert the new cleaning strip into the pocket of the cleaning cloth.

Optional accessories

The following accessories are available for cleaning and caring for the heater plate:

  • Miele Nomex nettle cleaning cloth with pocket: Mat. no. 03 909 300 (Max. temperature approx. 80 °C, ironer symbol “•”, lowest roller speed)
  • Miele “SMR” starter kit: Mat. no. 07 356 090 (contains Miele cleaning cloth, Miele waxing cloth and Miele ironing wax)

Waxing the heater plate

  • Let the ironer heat up to temperature level “•••”.
  • Sprinkle some wax into the pocket of the waxing cloth.

Use the wax sparingly to prevent the ironing cloth around the roller from becoming too smooth.
Excessive waxing impairs the function of the ironer.Miele Heater Plate

Since the waxing cloth is narrower than the heater plate you cannot wax the entire heater plate width by feeding the cloth through once. You need to feed the waxing cloth through the ironer several times, and move it from side to side.

  • Lay the waxing cloth on the left side of the infeed table. Make sure that the rubberised interior of the pocket is facing the roller. The rubberised pocket interior of the waxing cloth must not face the heater plate during feeding.

  • Feed the waxing cloth through the ironer from the left side of the infeed table until it comes all the way out on the other side.

  • Lay the waxing cloth back on the infeed table, but this time move it slightly to the right.
Tip : Only refill the waxing cloth pocket with wax if there are no visible damp marks in the waxing cloth after the process.

  • Feed the waxing cloth through the ironer again. Then move the waxing cloth slightly to the right again.

  • Repeat the process until you reach the right side of the infeed table and the entire width of the heater plate has been waxed.
