Function

Keys and Functions

Power Key – Turn the device on or off/Change power saving mode

Long press (2 seconds) to turn the device ON or OFF

Note: The FPM-55 is initially in power saving mode and will automatically shut off after 15 minutes idle time regardless of the condition of the battery. To turn off power saving mode, short press the Power Key. “Auto-off” will be displayed in the bottom left side of the screen, indicating the device is not in power saving mode.

Wavelength Key – Wavelength Selection/Automatic Wavelength Identification

Short press to switch the wavelength you want to measure. 1310 nm is the default wavelength.

Long press (2 seconds) to enter wavelength auto-identify mode. “AU” will be displayed in the upper right side of screen, indicating the device is in auto- identify mode. Long press the wavelength button to turn this off as well.

Backlight Key – Turn the backlight on or off

Press to turn the backlight of the device ON or OFF

Save Key – Save or view your data

The FPM-55 can store up to 1000 data entries.

Press the Save Key once to display the data saving number (for your reference), and double press the Save Key to confirm saving.

To view the data entries, long press the save button to enter the data interface, and short press the Save Key to view individual entries.

Delete Key – Delete Data/Cancel

While viewing a data entry, you can press the Delete Key to delete the data.

While in Saving Mode, press the Delete Key to delete the current saved data

Units Key – Switch between dBm, dB, and W measurements

Press the Units Key to switch between absolute measurement (dBm), relative measurement (dB), and xW of the optical power.

mW to dBm Conversion: 10 log(mW)=(dBm)
mW, uW, nW Conversion: 1 mW=103 uW=106 nW

REF Key – Stores the current power value as the reference value

Press the REF Key to store the current power value as the reference value. When pressed, the reference value will be displayed in the top-right of the screen with “Ref” displayed next to it.

Relative Value = l︱Absolute Value︱l -︱l Reference Value︱l

LDR LED – Intelligent Backlight Controller LED

If this LED is on, then the unit is in LDR Intelligent Backlight Control Mode. While in this mode, the unit will automatically adjust the backlight based on the outside lighting, which helps save power.

B/L SET LED – Backlight Mode Indication LED

If the LED is green, then the FPM-55 is in LDR Intelligent Backlight Control Mode.

If the LED is red, then the FPM-55 is in Key-Control Mode

Indicate backlight control mode. Green light indicate that “LDR”intelligent backlight control mode, Red light indicate that key-control mode

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution

Unit will not turn on Faint
display on the LCD screen| 1. Power is OFF
2. The battery power is
too low| 1. Turn the device ON by
pressing the Power Key
2. Replace the batteries
