These ELAC Vertex III Series In-Wall speakers are designed to accurately
reproduce the full range of music and film sound while requiring absolutely no

for Surround Sound applications, anywhere space is a consideration, or to
bring music into additional rooms of the house.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Use Only As Directed
- Observe all warnings on the speaker and in this manual.
- Please check the speaker for damage before use.
- Carefully consider the proper location before beginning the installation.
- Observe the correct polarity when connecting these speakers, according to the instructions in this manual.
Location
- In-wall speakers should be mounted close to ear level whenever possible.
- Allow at least 1.5 inches of clearance between the wall “cut-out” and any studs or joists.
- Please refer to the specification chart for the required depth for each model.
- Use the included template for proper “cut-out” of drywall.
- Do not install the speaker near any heat sources such as radiators, heating valves, stoves, or apparatus (including amplifiers), or in areas where there is a risk of explosion.
- Do not install the speaker near transformers. EMF fields can cause unwanted noise.
- Do not install the speaker in locations that are extremely humid, exceptionally hot, cold, or prone to vibrations.
Overload
- Extreme overload of the device due to very high volume may cause damage to individual components. Because of the possible danger, you should never leave loudspeakers under extreme overload conditions unattended.
Volume
- CAUTION: Continuous high volume may cause severe damage to your hearing. Please listen responsibly.
Disposal
- The packaging is made from recyclable materials. Please be responsible & dispose of these packaging materials in an environmentally sensitive manner.
INSTALLATION
Hooking Up The Wires
- For shorter distances up to 25 feet, 18 gauge speaker wire will be sufficient. For longer distances, 16 gauge speaker wire should be used. The speaker terminals will accommodate up to a 14-gauge speaker wire. Leave two feet of extra speaker wire at the speaker end to make installation easier. Do not use nails, staples, or other metal objects to secure the speaker wire. The resulting short-circuit could affect your system’s performance & could also damage components in your system, especially the amplifier. To minimize interference & external hum keep the speaker wires away from other electrical wires and cables.
- When connecting the speaker wires it is important to retain the correct polarity. Be sure that the wire attached to the “+”, red, positive, or hot terminal on your ELAC speaker connects to the “+”, red, positive, or hot terminal on the other component.
Mounting the speaker
-
Yes, you will be cutting a hole in the wall. With the right tools and a little extra preparation & care, installing these In-Wall can be quick and easy.
-
Carefully cut out the hole drawn on the paper template. (Note: the inside rectangle of the template can be used to shield the woofer while you paint the frame.)
-
Next, position the template where you have chosen to mount the speaker and trace along the inside edge. Make your cuts along this line. A utility knife will make clean cuts in drywall. A keyhole saw or electric jigsaw may also be used. Do your best to keep the cuts neat, however, the frame will overlap the hole to hide any rough edges.
-
At this point, with the wall open, run the speaker cables into position leaving about two feet of extra cable exposed at the opening. Strip the ends of the cable back by approximately ¼ inch (6mm) to expose the bare wire.
INSTALLATION – continued
-
The In-Wall speaker can be mounted vertically or horizontally. Depending on the In-Wall speaker orientation, the tweeter needs to be in a certain position in the speaker cabinet to deliver efficiently the high frequencies.
-
The correct position of the tweeter is with the slots and ELAC logo in a horizontal position. To get the tweeter in the correct position, you may need to unscrew the tweeter, rotate it, and screw it back in place.
-
Remove the grille from the speaker frame. The grille is held on by magnetic attraction.
-
Ensure the tweeter is mounted in the correct position for the desired orientation of the In-Wall speaker.
-
Install the MDF baffle in the In-Wall speaker, before connecting the speaker wires.
-
Attach the speaker cables to the speaker’s terminals, observing the correct polarity.
-
With the grille removed, the In-Wall speaker can be inserted into the mounting hole. First, make sure all the tabs are rotated inwards, and then connect the speaker wires. The connector posts are spring-loaded so the bare ends of the speaker wire can be pushed into the holes of the post after the end cap is depressed. Once inserted the end cap can be released and the wire will be held firm. Make sure no stray strands of wire are exposed that could short across between the two posts.
-
Use a Phillips head screwdriver – Turn each mounting screw clockwise to rotate the quick-turn mounting bracket into place. Further turning of the screw will tighten the mounting bracket until it is firmly against the wall. DO NOT over-tighten the screw to prevent breakage of the mounting bracket.
-
When the In-Wal speaker is mounted firmly in place, replace the magnetic grill.

ELAC manufacturer’s warranty
-
The following warranty provisions apply to ELAC products purchased from an authorized ELAC dealer within the European Union. For the assertion of warranty claims outside the European Union, please contact your local dealer/distributor in the country in which the product was purchased.
-
The following provisions extend the rights of the purchaser and in no way affect any other rights that exist pursuant to local law, such as warranty rights.
-
The right to a warranty claim shall only accrue to those purchasers who have purchased the respective product from an authorized dealer. ELAC operates a selective distribution system. If the product is purchased from an unauthorized dealer, then no right to claim under warranty shall accrue to the purchaser. This notwithstanding, this shall not affect possible warranty claims against the seller.
-
The warranty covers defects in material, construction, or workmanship.
-
The warranty does not cover damage or loss attributable to normal wear and tear, rough handling or improper use, incorrect operation, or any natural or customary deterioration. The warranty does not extend to optically non-uniform veneer structures or discolorations of the veneer, as this is a natural material. The warranty does not extend to any defects that occur in connection with other products, which have not been manufactured by ELAC or that occur on account of improper use. The correct operation in accordance with the operating instructions enclosed with the products is expressly incorporated by reference. The warranty does not cover defects resulting from improper installation or storage. Installation of storage in a humid environment or in an environment in which the product is exposed to extreme temperatures and/or temperature fluctuations, oxidation, or corrosion would be examples of improper installation and storage. The warranty also does not cover defects, which are caused by spilling liquids, food, or other chemical substances on the products, which react with the product.
-
A product that is not opened, modified, or repaired by ELAC or an authorized dealer shall void the warranty. If the serial number is removed or illegible, this shall void the warranty.
-
Defects in materials, construction, or workmanship will be repaired free of charge within the warranty period by ELAC or by an authorized dealer in the country where the product was purchased. This will be performed within a commercially reasonable period of time. Discharging warranty obligations hereunder may also be done by replacing the respective product at ELAC’s or its authorized dealer’s discretion. If identical products are no longer available, they may be replaced by another product corresponding to the same price and quality class provided that this is reasonable for the purchaser upon taking into account the purchaser’s interests. ELAC shall take title to any spare parts or products that have been exchanged under warranty. OPE
-
A claim under warranty must be submitted within the warranty period to ELAC (ELAC Electroacoustic GmbH, Fraunhoferstrasse 16, 24118 Kiel, Germany) or an authorized dealer within a reasonable period of time after discovery of the defect. These documents must contain the following information: a) name and address of the dealer, b) date and place of purchase, and c) a description of the item, product type, and serial number. The person submitting the claim shall bear any transport risk. ELAC shall not assume any shipping, transport, travel, and/or labor costs. ELAC may charge the person submitting the claim a reasonable processing fee. -
The warranty period shall commence upon delivery of the product to the first end customer. The date of sale on the sales receipt issued by the authorized dealer is decisive for the start of the warranty period. The warranty period for ELAC Electroacoustic GmbH products is 5 years for passive loudspeakers and 2 years for active loudspeakers, subwoofers, and other electronic products. Service under warranty does not extend or suspend the warranty period nor does it create a new warranty period.
-
Save for defects of quality and title, ELAC’s liability shall not be limited, provided that any loss or damage is caused by intentional misfeasance or gross negligence. ELAC shall also be held liable for the slightly negligent breach of substantial obligations (obligations the breach of which frustrates the purpose of the contract) as well as for the breach of material contractual obligations (obligations the fulfillment of which is essential for the proper performance of the contract and the adherence of which is regularly relied upon by the user), but only for foreseeable damage typical for the contract. Liability for slight negligence is limited to the amount of damage or loss foreseeable upon execution of the contract, the occurrence of which would be typically expected. These limitations of liability shall not apply in the cases of death, personal injury, and harm to health; for a defect after acceptance of the warranty; for fraudulently concealed defects; for liability in accordance with the German Product Liability Act; and for data protection and privacy claims. The above exclusion of liability shall also apply to ELAC’s governing bodies, employees, representatives, and agents. ELAC shall not be held liable for damage or loss intentionally caused by the purchaser or by the purchaser’s gross negligence.

The manufacturer’s warranty pursuant to these provisions is the only warranty given by ELAC for its products. In the event of any inconsistency or contradiction with respect to any other oral or written agreements, these provisions shall prevail.
