INSTALLATION & OPERATION
Materials Provided: Prophy Star 3 SW, (Fig. 1) Cleaning Brush, Instructions
NOTE: Before installing the Prophy Star 3 SW, be sure the air filter
operates efficiently. Verify recommended air filtration of 25 microns.
Recommended air pressure, while operating, is 35 to 40 psi, see #2.
NOTICE If the delivery unit has oil/mist lubrication, detach and drain; the handpiece is LubeFree.
INSTALLATION & OPERATION, CONT.
-
Verify that the back end of the swivel corresponds to the delivery system’s tubing configuration (ISO standard 4-line configuration)and connect swivel to the tubing. (Fig. 2 and 3).
-
Mount 4/6-line air pressure gauge (Fig 4), between the handpiece and swivel connected to the air supply tubing to obtain a reading. Adjust air pressure until the gauge reads 35-40 psi while operating handpiece with foot control completely depressed.
NOTE: Operating pressure must be maintained between 35 psi and 40 psi.
NOTE: If a gauge is not available, set pressure at the delivery head allowing 1 psi pressure loss for every foot of tubing. For example, to operate at 35 psi and using either 5 feet or 12 feet of tubing the pressure should be set at the delivery head to compensate for the air pressure losses:
5 feet of tubing 35 psi + 5 psi = 40 psi
12 feet of tubing 35 psi + 12 psi = 47 psi -
After adjustment, disconnect the pressure gauge and install the handpiece as follows.
-
Grasp the handpiece at the bottom between the thumb and finger as shown in Fig 5.
-
Snap the Prophy Star 3 SW handpiece onto the swivel that has been connected to the tubing coupler.

NOTE: Metal prophy angles are not recommended to be used with the prophy
handpiece. Prophy angles with plastic stems with
ISO standard Doriot couplings may be used. Attachments other than prophy
angles are not recommended with this handpiece.
- Insert the stem of the prophy angle into the chuck of the handpiece while making sure that the slot is aligned with the nose pin. (Fig. 6)
- Push the angle until the slot is fully seated around the nose pin.
NOTE: To remove the angle, simply pull the angle out of the handpiece.
REMOVAL OF GRIP
- With the thumb at the rear of the grip, (Fig 7) push down and forward.
- Continue pushing until the grip clears the nosepiece.
NOTE: Do not pull or peel to remove.
INSTALLATION OF GRIP
- Push grip onto nosepiece at front of grip (Fig 8).
- Continue pushing until the grip fits in the nosepiece grip recess. The grip should rest against the front and rear recess wall.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY:
WARNING
Always pull lightly on the angle after mounting to the handpiece to confirm
that the angle is secured.
CAUTION
TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE HANDPIECE OR ANGLE:
- Before use, verify concentric rotation by operating the handpiece outside the oral cavity in a safe place. Do not use angles that do not run concentrically or produce excessive noise.
