DENTALEZ 265646 Plug N’ Play LED Swivel

Before operating the swivel connector, carefully read and follow all of these instructions. Save these instructions for future reference and observe all warnings and cautions.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

Swivel connectors are used to adapt the handpiece to the dental unit delivery tubing. Drive air, coolant air, water and as applicable fiber optic lighting are supplied through the swivel.

SPECIFICATIONS

NOTE: StarBright Plug n’ Play swivels contain an anti-retraction valve to prevent backflow of water into the handpiece tubing. See Cleaning for special guidance regarding cleaning and maintenance.

DESCRIPTION

The Fiber Optic (F.O.) 6-Pin ISO Type C, LED HiFlo Swivel is designed to connect to StarBright Fiber Optic Handpiece Tubing or standard (non-Star) ISO C tubing. The StarBright Plug n’ Play LED Swivel is compatible with all 3.0-3.3 Volts DC volt fiber optic systems. Verify that the fiber optic system is putting out 3.0-3.3 Volts DC volts before installing LED swivel. (Fig.1)

SWIVEL INSTALLATION

NOTE: Use an air pressure gauge to adjust the pressure to the appropriate psi as recommended in the specified handpiece manual. Handpiece must be connected prior to taking pressure reading.

NOTE: If you have a previous model LED Swivel with in-line regulator, the in-line regulator will need to be removed in order for the StarBright Plug n’ Play LED Swivel to function.

1. Slide tubing coupler back until the end of the ISO connector is exposed. (Fig. 2)
2. Align and insert fittings of the swivel into the ISO connector holes of the tubing.
3. Slide tubing coupler forward and thread clockwise until hand tight against the swivel.
4. Use the disconnect wrench provided, StarDental Part #203048, to tighten the swivel to the tubing coupler. Be sure to turn the tubing coupler, while holding the swivel in place. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. (See Fig. 3)
5. Snap handpiece onto the swivel.
6. Adjust water volume at delivery head to obtain a satisfactory spray mist.

NOTE: The swivel tubing connection may loosen over time, resulting in water leaks and/or loss of power. Check for tightness periodically.

CLEANING

INSTRUCTIONS

• CAUTION
  • This swivel cannot be steam sterilized.
  • This product cannot be cleaned and disinfected with a Thermo-Disinfector.
• NOTICE
  • Do not clean with high acid water or sterilizing solutions.
  • Do not wipe with or immerse in high acid water or sterilizing solutions. These procedures may discolor the swivel.

CLEANING
Do not attempt to disassemble the swivel.

1. With the swivel attached to the handpiece, wipe all exposed areas of the swivel with a CaviCideTM wipe.
2. Disconnect handpiece from swivel; disconnect swivel from tubing. Depress foot control, verify water exits tubing.
3. Connect swivel to tubing. Depress foot control again. If almost no water exits front of swivel, clean as follows.

4. Remove swivel and find water tube of front face of the swivel.

5. Insert cleaning wire, StarDental Part #256719, into water tube of swivel. When wire will not insert, move wire back and forth to loosen debris at blockage. (Fig. 4)
   CAUTION
   Use caution when inserting the cleaning wire into the water tube. Damage to the anti-retraction valve could result.

6. Remove wire and apply a blast of syringe air into water tube.
   Every exposed optical surface of the swivel accumulates debris ultimately decreasing the light output. To maintain maximum intensity, clean each surface weekly with an isopropyl alcohol soaked cotton swab. Use firm rubbing motion to remove debris and mineral deposits. See (Fig. 5) below denoting the surfaces to clean

To optimize operation of the swivel connector, swab all internal surfaces of the handpiece with a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol until clean. On the LED swivel, clean the external surfaces of the swivel and internal areas of the tubing coupler. Dry using syringe air.

Clean area shown in bearing/spring assembly (See fig. 6), using isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Dry using syringe air.

O-RINGS AND REAR SEAL REPLACEMENT

• Periodically replace the swivel O-rings with StarDental Part #259884.
• Rear seals wear with repeated use. Once a year or as needed, replace silicone rubber seal with StarDental Part #263770. (See Fig. 7)

TROUBLESHOOTING

• PROBLEM: WATER LEAKAGE

  • Cause: Brittle silicone rubber rear seal
  • Correction: Replace silicone rubber seal with StarDental Part #263770. (Refer to O-Rings & Rear Seal Replacement)
  • Cause: Swivel O-ring worn
  • Correction: Replace both O-rings at the front of any swivel with StarDental Part #259884. (See Fig. 8) (Refer to O-Rings & Rear Seal Replacement.)

• PROBLEM:NO LIGHT OR INTERMITTENT LIGHT

  • Cause: Corrosion on lamp contact pins
  • Correction: Remove rear seal; clean contact pins of lamp (Refer to Cleaning.)
  • Cause: In-line regulator in use
  • Correction: If you have a previous model LED Swivel with in-line regulator, the in-line regulator will need to be removed in order for the StarBright Plug n’ Play LED Swivel to function.
    NOTE: If there is still no light after correction steps are followed, discontinue use of device and contact dealer or manufacturer for assistance.

• PROBLEM:YELLOWISH LIGHT

  • Cause: Debris on optical surfaces
  • Correction: Clean all exposed optical surfaces. (Refer to Cleaning.)

• PROBLEM:SWIVEL WILL NOT DISENGAGE FROM HANDPIECE

  • Cause: Buildup of debris
  • Correction: Place a few drops of DentaLube II, StarDental Part #262539, into threaded area of the bearing/spring assembly to disengage handpiece. (Refer to Cleaning.) To prevent reoccurrence, clean swivel handpiece connector.
    NOTE: If a problem persists, contact dealer for further assistance; or, contact StarDental Technical Service at 1-866-DTE-INFO.

Please note the following additional terms of our warranty policy:

• Warranty covers manufacturing defects only and does not cover defects resulting from abuse, accidents, misuse, improper handling, cleaning, care or maintenance or the failure to follow or observe our operating/use, maintenance and/or installation instructions. Damage resulting from the use of chemicals, cleaners, disinfectants or sterilization is not covered under this warranty nor is normal wear and tear. Failure to use authorized parts or an authorized repair facility voids this warranty.
• Liability is limited to repair or replacement of the defective part(s) or products at our sole discretion. All other liabilities, in particular liability for damages, including, without limitation, special, exemplary, consequential or incidental damages are excluded
