Important advice and information

This product is intended for private use only and is designed to store and freeze food.
The following safety rules must be observed. We cannot accept liability or any guarantee obligation for any material or corporal damage that occurs as a result of these recommendations not being complied with.
The product must be installed, secured if necessary, and used in compliance with the recommendations in these installation and operating instructions in order to avoid damage and danger caused by any unstable positioning or improper installation.
If the product is transported in a horizontal position, it must be positioned vertically. The appliance should then be left two hours before connecting it. A small amount of oil may have seeped out of the cooling circuit, and this needs time to run back to the engine before the product is connected, otherwise it may be damaged.
If the product is fitted with wheels, please bear in mind that they are only intended to facilitate small movements.
This refrigerating appliance is not intended to be used as a built-in appliance.
Do not use them to move the refrigerator over larger distances.
Clean the refrigerator before connecting it to the electricity supply. The plug must be disconnected from the socket before any maintenance is carried out. Do not pull the cable: hold the plug firmly to pull it out of the socket.
Never put bottles or glasses containing liquid in the freezer unless they are full or less: the liquid will expand when frozen and the container is likely to burst.
Do not use any methods other than those shown in this guide to accelerate defrosting.
Do not use electrical appliances inside the boxes designed to store frozen food unless the manufacturer recommends it.
Do not let children play with the product, and keep pets away from it. Appliances to be discarded must be rendered inoperable immediately. Disconnect the plug from the socket and cut the wire flush with the product. Make sure the door is made unus-able, or remove it completely to prevent a child or an animal from being locked inside it at play.
If problems arise that cannot be solved by using our advice (see “Trouble- shooting” section), you are requested only to contact our authorised service centres or a qualified repairman.
The cooling circuit in the refrigerator/freezer contains refrigerant isobutane (R600a), a natural non-polluting gas, which is, how-ever, flammable. Make sure that none of the refrigeration cir-cuit components is damaged during transport and installation. In the event of any damage, the refrigerator/ freezer must be kept away from open flames and all sources of heat or ignition, and the room must be ventilated.
It only possible to secure good conditions for storing food and to obtain an optimised power consumption by carrying out a proper installation and complying with the recommendations given in this manual.

To limit the product’s electricity consumption:

  • Place the freezer in a suitable place.
  • The door must only be opened for as short a time as possible. Do not put foods that are still hot into the freezer, in particular soup or other dishes that give off a lot of steam.
  • Be sure to keep the product at optimum functionality by cleaning the condenser at regular intervals (see “General maintenance of the product”).
  • Check the seals around the door regularly, and make sure that they can always close properly. If this is not the case, contact the service centre.

In compliance with the latest laws regarding environmental protection, the product contains no CFCs, but it does contain a refrigerant gas known as R600a. The exact type of gas is clearly stated on the data plate located on the inside of the refrigerator, bottom left.
R600a is a non-polluting gas that does not destroy the ozone layer, and hence does not contribute to the greenhouse effect. There may be trickling sounds coming from the product. This is normal, and they are caused by the interplay of compressor oil and refrigerant.

Description of the product

These instructions apply to several models and thus there may be slight differences between certain details and equipment on your appliance.

  1. Top plate
  2. Drawers
  3. Adjustable legs
The thermostat is located on the back of the freezer.

STAR MARKING

All freezers are marked with stars (1 to 4). This is an indication of the product’s freezing ability.
See the scale below.
Please note!
*The top freezer compartment in this model has a star value of 2 .**

Star marking of freezers

  1. star freezer
The freezer can only be kept at a temperature of -6 °C and is therefore only suitable for short term storage.

  2. star freezer
The freezer can freeze down to a temperature of -12°C and is therefore suitable for icecubes and short term storage of food.

  3. star freezer
The freezer is approved for long-term storage at -18 °C

  4. star freezer
The freezer is approved for freezing and long-term storage at -18 °C. It can freeze a minimum of 4.5 kg. per 100 litre capacity in one day.

Automatic defrosting of the freezer (Only applies to models with defrosting)
The freezer defrosts automatically. The frost will drain into a collecting container located on the compressor. The heat from the compressor causes the contents of the container to evaporate.
The serial number of the cabinet is typically located on the nameplate, which is found either inside the cabinet or at the back.

Installation

  • Place the product in a dry and ventilated room.
  • Avoid placing it on balconies, verandas and terraces: high summer temperatures and severe winter cold may prevent the product from working correctly or even damage it.
  • The product must not be placed near a heat source such as an oven or radiator.
  • The product is designed to work optimally at room temperature. It is designed for a certain climate class. This is clearly stated on the data plate located inside the product at the bottom of the left side wall. Above and below these temperatures the product’s performance is reduced.

Climate classes

Clima class Room temperature

  • Make sure a distance of at least 3 cm of free space should be spared at the top side, more than10 cm on both sides, and above 5 cm at the back side of the product
  • Place the product at an appropriate distance from the wall using the spacers provided in the accessories bag. The spacers should be mounted behind the product.
  • N ote: When operating in an environment other than the specified climate type (i.e., beyond the rated ambient temperature range), the appliance may not be able to maintain the desirable compartment temperatures.
  • Do not turn on the Freezer for 4 hours after the freezer is in place it needs to be. This allows time for the coolant to settle.
  • To use the ice-making box, place it in the upper position of the freezer compartment, so that it ices up as soon as possible.

Once the product is installed, adjust the legs so that the product is slightly tilted backwards: This will make it easier to close the door. Before food can be placed in the product, it must be cleaned inside and out with baking soda dissolved in water (1 tablespoon of baking soda to 4 litres of water). Do not use alcohol, scouring powder or detergents, as these can damage the surfaces.

Adjusting the hinge

Occasionally, the door and the panel above the door are not positioned in a fully straight line relative to each other. If this is the case, slightly loosen the screw holding the cover on the upper hinge. Screw it back firmly and check that the rubber seal is completely tight.

Removable handle
Screw off the handle on the left-hand side, and put it on the right. Use the handle to find the markings for the new holes for attaching the handle.
If the doors already have holes in both sides:
Take off the plugs concealing the handle screws and the plugs concealing the holes on the opposite side. Screw the handle off and put it on the other side. Screw the handle on firmly and insert the plugs, so that they hide the screws and holes.

Electricity connection

For safety reasons, it is imperative to observe the following recommendations.
The electrical installation must comply with the French standard NF C 15-100, particularly with regard to earthing.
A 3×2, 5mm single phase line of 230V connected to:

  • a single-phase meter 230V-50Hz
  • a differential switch and a fuse (10 or 16A depending on the model).

We cannot be held liable for accidents caused by a faulty electrical installation.
Advice for the electrical installation of the refrigerator/freezer:

  • Do not use extension cords, adapters or power strips.
  • Never remove the earthing.
  • The plug must be easy to access but out of the reach of children.

Please consult a qualified electrician if you are in any doubt.
Clean the refrigerator before connecting it to the electricity supply. The plug must be disconnected from the socket before any maintenance is carried out. Do not pull the cable: hold the plug firmly to pull it out of the socket.
If the feeder cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the technical service or by a person with similar qualifications, so as to avoid any hazards.

Setting the temperature

The temperature can be adjusted by turning the button at the top of the cabinet with a coin or something similar. “4” for colder and “1” for warmer. The factory recommended setting is “2.5” under normal operating conditions.

In Use

  1. The appliance might not operate consistently (possibility of defrosting of contents or temperature becoming too warm in the frozen food compartment) when sited for an extended period of time below the cold end of the range of temperatures for which the refrigerating appliance is designed
  2. The fact that the internal temperatures could be affected by such factors as the location of the refrigerating appliance, ambient temperature and the frequency of door opening, and, if appropriate, a warning that the setting of any temperature control device might have to be varied to allow for these factors
  3. The fact that effervescent drinks should not be stored in food freezer compartments or cabinets or in low-temperature compartments or cabinets, and that some products such as water ices should not be consumed too cold
  4. The need to not exceed the storage time(s) recommended by the food manufacturers for any kind of food
  5. The fact that a rise in temperature of the frozen food during manual defrosting, maintenance or cleaning could shorten the storage life
  6. It is better wrapping the frozen food in several layers of the glass shelves.
  7. The care required with regard to frozen food in storage in the event of an extended non-running of the refrigerating appliance (interruption of power supply or failure of the refrigerating system)

General maintenance

Remove the plug from the socket before carrying out any main-tenance.
Do not pull the cord to disconnect. Grasp the plug firmly to pull it out.

Cleaning the appliance

To ensure better hygiene and safe storage of foods, it is advisable to clean and disinfect the product regularly.

  • Drain the appliance and place the contents in thermal bags or newspapers, and then place them in a cool place.
  • Clean the product inside and out with baking soda dissolved in water (1 tablespoon to 4 litres of water).
  • Do not use alcohol, scouring powder or detergents, as these can damage the surfaces.
  • Do not use steam pressure cleaners. The fire-hot steam can damage the surfaces and the electrical circuits. There is a direct risk of fatal electric shock.
  • Rinse with clean water and dry with a cloth.
  • Remember to clean the condenser at the back of the product from time to time. Use a dry brush, or preferably a vacuum cleaner.
  • Plug in the appliance again and readjust the temperature if necessary, as directed in the section “Setting the tempera-ture”.
  • Wait three quarters of an hour before putting food back into the appliance.
Changing the bulb (depending on the model)

Pull the plug out of the socket.

Change the bulb as follows:

  • Remove the protective grille using a pointed tool (a screwdriver or a knife) by loosening it at the pin.
  • The bulb can be seen. Remove the bulb and replace it with a new one. Then put the protective grille back by repeating the same procedure in reverse order.

Normal operation sounds

For the temperature of the product to remain constant, the motor operates at regular intervals. The sounds it causes are quite normal operation sounds, and they will automatically become shorter as soon as the product reaches the desired temperature. It will make the following sounds:

Nuisances or minor defects
Defects may arise when using the product. Before contacting the service centre, please check first whether you can resolve the issue by using the following instructions:

Humming
This comes from the engine. This humming may at times become stronger, i.e. when the engine starts.

Gurgling sounds or low humming
This is caused by the coolant circulating around the appliance.

Clicking
A faint clicking sound can always be heard when the electronic card starts or stops the engine.

Low background noise
If the appliance has a fan (depending on the model), the air circulating inside the product may create a low background noise.

Trouble-shooting

When calling, please give the product’s full reference details (model, type, serial number).
These numbers are given on the name plate affixed to the product. The location of the plate may vary, depending on model.

Unusual sounds

  • Check that the product’s legs are correctly set, and that it is stable.
  • Check whether the product is touching the wall.
  • Check that all removable parts (boxes, shelves, etc.) are in their correct place.
  • Check whether bottles or containers placed in the product are touching.

The freezer does not generate enough cold

  • Check that the temperature is set as shown in the section “Setting the temperature”.
  • If a large amount of food has just been placed in the freezer, make sure the temperature is adjusted as shown in section “Setting the temperature”.
  • Do not open the freezer door too often or leave it open.

Warnings for disposal

  • Refrigerant and cyclopentane foaming material used for the refrigerator are flammable. 8 Therefore, when the refrigerator is scrapped, it shall be kept away from any fire source and be recovered by a special recovering company with corresponding qualification other than be disposed by combustion, so as to prevent damage to the environment or any other harm.
  • When the refrigerator is scrapped, disassemble the doors, and remove gasket of door and shelves; put the doors and shelves in a proper place, so as to prevent trapping of any child.

The freezer does not generate any cold at all

  • Check that the electronic card is powered on.
  • Check that the product is connected to the mains.
  • Check whether the mains circuit breaker is not tripped, the fuse has blown or become loose.

There is a build-up of frost inside the product

  • Do not open the freezer door too often or leave it open.
    The outer sides are warm

  • This is perfectly normal and prevents misting on the outside of the product.

Water droplets appear on the outside of the product

  • If the heating has not been turned on (e.g. in spring and autumn) and the air in the room is slightly damp, some condensation may form on the outside of the product. This is not dangerous, and the product will continue to function properly.

There are small amounts of water or frost on the back wall of the product

  • This is normal, as this is a particularly cold and damp part of the product, where drops of water and frost condense under the product’s normal operation.

Certain foods do not freeze completely

  • It is normal for foods containing a lot of sugar, fat or alcohol not to freeze completely and remain soft in part (ice cream, juice, etc.).

Frozen meat has white streaks

  • Check that the temperature is set correctly and not too low (see section “Setting the temperature”).
  • Check that the meat has not been stored too long in the freezer; refer to the form “Notes on freezing foods”.

It is difficult to open the door

  • It is normal for the door to be a little difficult to open, especially if it has just been closed: a slight negative pressure is created to ensure that the door is completely sealed. Wait a few minutes before opening it again.

The light in the product is turned off

  • Check that the product is connected to the mains.
  • Check whether the mains circuit breaker is not tripped, the fuse has blown or become loose.
  • Check whether the bulb is broken, and refer to the section “Changing the bulb”.
  • If the temperature control lights (-18 °C, -22 °C, -26 °C) and “On” are flashing, this means that the temperature sensor is defective. Call for service.
  • This symbol shows that the temperature inside the freezer is too high. Set the thermostat to a colder temperature or fast freezing.
